"What do you mean you don't have a mum?" asked Alison in horror, staring down at Amy, "What's going on?! Where are your parents then?!"

Abigail looked down as she mumbled, furious at herself, "They're dead." She felt like they were stuck in a corner, there was no way to escape now that Alison knew that Abigail and Will didn't really have parents. After all this time of sneaking around, Abigail had gotten herself caught.

Alison felt her breath leave her as she let go of Abigail's arm. She stared at the two small children, and suddenly everything clicked. Their clothes being dirty and too small. Being left alone in the department store. They didn't have anywhere to go. She felt tears building in her eyes, and scooped Abigail into a hug, holding her tightly as she said, "I'm so sorry! Oh you poor dear. It's going to be okay, I promise. I'll help you."

Abigail blinked as she suddenly found herself being hugged. "I don't need help!" She replied, a bit angrily. "I can take care of me and Will, we're not going into some stupid orphanage!"
---
Will's eyes widened even more, "Ofanage?" She asked, "Abbie said we no go to Ofanage. Then Abbie can't stay with Will!"

"I never said anything about orphanages," said Alison, moving away from the girl. "They're horrible places, nobody deserves that!" Alison gave a slight grimace, remembering the threat her grandparents had used on her often. "I mean I'd help you find a better place to stay. Where are you staying right now?"

Hearing that Alison did not plan to put them in an Orphanage did make Abigail feel a lot more secure talking to her, and she relaxed a bit more. "We stay where we can... In a house whose owners are out of town mostly, but when we can't find a house me and Will stay in the park."

Glancing back at Willow, who seemed to be curious and not nearly as frightened as she saw Abigail calm down, Abigail slowly nodded. "Alright then..." After a moment of hesitation, Abigail added. "By the way, My name is really Abigail, not Mary.

"I'm 96 months old." Abigail responded promptly, with an air of pride at being 'so old'. Willow didn't answer at first as she screwed up her nose as she concentrated, staring at her hand. Slowly, she put up one finger, the another and finally a third. She brightened and help up her hand while proudly annoying.
"I'm free."

Alison did the math, and covered her smile as she realized Abigail was 8. However, that made her worry more. Why was an 8 year old shouldering the responsibility to a three year old by herself?
"Well, aren't you two all grown up?" asked Alison with a smile, "What would you guys like to eat?" As she said this, she checked her pockets for money, relieved that she could feel the twenty dollar bill in her hand still.

Abigail nodded, happy that the woman that she was grown up. "Anything would be fine." She replied, she hadn't had any kind of really good food in awhile. All of the food the two got came from what little she could steal, and the money Abigail could pick-pocket. It was always cheap things, and Abigail made sure that Willow ate first.

Alison led the two to a small bagel shop. It made warm and crispy bagels of any kind, and would easily feed the three of them twice for her twenty pounds.
"Pick what you'd like then," said Alison with a smile as she perused the over-the-counter menu.

Abigail stood on her tippy-toes to see over the counter, and examined the menu. Behind her, Willow was a great deal shorter. The toddler tried to follow her sister's example of tippy-toes, but she simply wasn't tall enough. So, Willow went over to Alison and tugged on the woman's shirt. "Uppy!" Willow commanded.

Alison grinned, and scooped the toddler into her arms, and lifted her up to see the bagels as she stepped behind Abigail, "Would you like a warm bagel with cream cheese? They have a variety of flavors! Or you can spread jam or butter. They even have sandwich style bagels. Or do you want a muffin or doughnut?"

"Alright then, chocolate chip, blueberry, or something else?" she asked Willow, before turning to Abigail and asking, "What kind, sweetie?"
As she spoke, the handsome waiter behind the counter arrived, and asked, "How can I help you lovely ladies today? Is your big sister buying something sweet for you all?"

"Chocate!" Willow replied happily, remembering that once Abigail had brought her a small bar of the brown stuff- it had tasted good.
Abigail looked at the waiter in surprise, but she didn't correct him, as she wasn't sure if they were to have a cover or not. So, Abigail looked to Alison for help as she said, "Blueberry, please."

"I'm just baby-sitting," said Alison, blushing but not wanting to spin a yarn, especially since the waiter was cute! "One chocolate chip muffin and blueberry bagel please."
"Coming right up, anything for you?"
"Just a toasted multigrain bagel would be fine," she said lightly, as he nodded and headed off.

Abigail frowned slightly- She didn't need a baby sitter! However, she refrained from voicing such words, as Alison was getting them something to eat. "What's been happening in the Wizarding world? Me and Willow haven't been there since... well..." Abigail trailed off, not really wanting to talk about it.

"I don't know much myself," admitted Alison, as the waiter handed them their meal. The quietly paid him and led the girls outside, balancing Willow in one arm and the money and food in the other. They walked to a quiet park, with a swing set and jungle gym near by that she thought Willow, and maybe even Abigail might enjoy. "I'm mostly kept in my house. However, anti-werewolf legislation has picked up quite a bit, and there's a lot of disappearances happening. Strange ones."

Abigail nearly froze, but she forced herself to keep walking. "W-werewolves? Like... like what? More rules or something?"
Willow looked over, confused at how Abigail had changed so quickly. She didn't really understand much about werewolves, only that Abigail had to leave Willow once a month for a day.

Alison didn't say anything, only muttering under her breath so Willow didn't hear, a choice selection of curse words at bringing up the topic. Of course kids would be frightened by the idea, and it made her uncomfortable, since she'd been one ever since she was a kid.
"Yeah, more rules," said Alison, "The usual crap about curfew being implemented during the full moon, the registration tightening, don't worry, it's not your problem." It's mine.
