I propose a challenge where the DA, McGonagoll, Flitwick, Sprout, Lupin and Snape all read the OOTP whilst Dumbledore has been driven from the castle. The story is to be changed so that Umbridge is more vindictive than normal and the Cast get breaks in between every five chapter's where they go and unleash hell on Umbridge. I've done it this way because I honesty find it to be very boring when the characters just sit in a room day in day out. If we wouldn't do it in real life then why would we do it in a story? Pairings: Anything you like. Sexuality: You decide. NO TIME TRAVEL please! Have fun and remember the most important rule. The idea sounds great. But I'm not sure if it is possible to make Umbridge more vindictive than normal without turning her into a slapstick character.  |

I'm positive it can be done. Hell make her use a whip or put those chains up onto a hook and have the kids in the whilst Umbridge does all the carving or something.. Use the imagination.

*evil grin* Oh, this really can be done... Have her force those she punishes to spend one hour with a boggart...wandless. Do what the above person said and have Umbitch use chains and whips Have her allow the "old ways" at Hogwarts once more. Filch will be pleased. Have her Crucio people. Have her use the Imperius curse to have a student's friends beat up/torture them. Just a few ideas I have... |

She did that, too. She tried to Crucio Harry at the end of the year.
That doesn't sound overly bad to me. At least not in contrast to the Crucio.
I think blackmailing someone into hurting a friend is a lot more her style - that way both parties would be hurt (physically and emotionally), instead of just one...

I do think she's competent enough to work with a boggart, and I've often had this idea that dealing with one wandless would be horrible. Plus, she could learn about the biggest fear those students have, and use that to her advantage.
The other ones you make good points, and I'm embarrassed that I forgot the cannon instances.
Blackmailing someone into hurting a friend is a great idea, both cruel and painful! I love it!

i think that crucio would work. imperio the friends and have them do it, stop the imperio and then find the reactions of both students when they realize that the other was tortured/imperiod

I imagine that Lupin wouldn't be overly bothered by a boggard turning insitently into a moon-like blob... Personally, I think that psychological torture is more Umbridge's style, though. How about extracting the students most embarrassing secrets from the paintings (they hear/see a lot after all, and as headmistress she might be able to do so) and then making them public or at least threatening to do so. Or changing the dormitory passwords and then giving detentions to students who "forgot" the new password (which they've never been told in the first place, of course). Or prepone a class and then give detentions to the students that are late (much like it was done with Harry's trial). I think, the trick here is to create situations, where the students can't do anything but go wrong or infringe on some rules. |
