I like Hagrid. I agree with everything about secrets and pets. However here's my question "how did he get to Harry on the rock if he used the Dursley's boat go get them back?" and please no one say flying or the motor bike. I can find flaws in both those theories.

Well he did fly. He said so himself. If it wasn't the bike, it had to have been a thestral.

I love Hagrid, though I wouldn't trust him with my secrets. Also, he's too devoted to Dumbledore...

I love Hagrid too. He's just a great big teddy bear, though I do agree, I wouldn't trust him with my secrets either, nor would I trust him to cook anything edible.

Hadgrid is awesome just don't give secrets, let him near a stove, or have more than one drink!

Any other theories as to Howe flew to the island? Thank you lucyolsen for correcting me.

He could have used a giant horse, like the ones used by Beauxbatons when they went to Hogwarts for the Triwizard. One of those things should be big enough and strong enough to carry him, given that the Beauxbatons carriage was pulled by six, and I'm sure the carriage would have been a lot heavier, even with a feather-weight charm on it.

Carrying and pulling are two different things, though. I know that a Shetland pony can in the plains pull four times its own weight, but it couldn't carry that same weight. But one of the horses for Hagrid is a new - and interesting - idea to me. We don't know what he keeps in the forest, after all. Though, in the end I suspect another one of JKR's many plotholes ...

Ah! Nothing like the smell of plotholes... good old plot holes...

Without them we'd have not even half as many topics to discuss, right, Kuma?

*snicker* No, we wouldn't, my dear Kitty.

The problem with the horse idea is where was it after they left? Hagrid isn't the type to abandon animals like that. Any other ideas?

Hagrid would know that the horse can find its way home without him. Though, on the other hand, in a storm? But then, he sent the owl into the storm, too. Portkey was my first thought, too, but it sounded as if he had been following them around, or how would you interpret it that Dumbledore said he might have some problems t get to them? Can Dumbledore make a Portkey when he doesn't even know where they are right now? Who delivered the letters to the hotel earlier - certainly not owls?

Well he made a deluminator and that thing a majig that told him harrys soul was separate from Voldie

I suspect that Dumbledore would have put a spell on Hagrid so he could literally fly- much like Voldemort in the seventh book. Maybe also a disillusionment enchantment so that Muggle's wouldn't spot him. I could imagine Hagrid being floated kind of to the rock, even through a storm.

Usually the idea that he rode a thestral turns up in RtB, though my personal favorite was Harry imagining him flying like Mary Poppins did, with the umbrella. Don't remember which story that came from but it had me laughing like mad.

I never thought about how Hagrid got to the island until it was brought up in RtB fics. It never bothered me. Personally I think it was by Threstral that Hagrid got there but I can see the Mary Poppins option as well

I say either the Marry Poppins option, or maybe Dumbledore had him learn how to apparate. You know, to run errands and such for him?

Personally, I have an extremely difficult time imagining Hagrid to apparate- he seems to big! Anyways, he's not *That* good at magic to do so.
