Do you think that if I updated one of my non-Reading the Books stories, it would draw attention to my actual Reading the Books stories? I've got a lot of non-RtB stories but since the purge started, I've been too scared to update.

I've heard the purge is over, but as long as you back it up, the worst they can do is temporarily remove it from the site. Or you can update your non-reading the books, and then have a link to this site or another where you update your reading the books fic.

It's hard to say anything, as I don't understand the people behind the purge at all! Viralic1 may be right about updating rather the other, non-reading fics on FFN right now. (Here is another matter altogether, of course ) But make sure that you have all of your stuff saved at your own PC, just in case, so you don't lose anything and have to retrieve it from other people's copies. Maybe watch a few more days beyond the weekend if the purge continues. If it does, I'm not sure it is worth the bother to update there at all, at least the reading stories. If not, then you can post in a few days. But frankly, I am sure even if they stopped for now, the whole mess will return in a few months. It isn't the first time this happens, and it will not be the last time. So my first advice to any author with CR or M-rated stories would be: Backup, backup, backup.

As far as I've noticed they (meaning the people who delete everything) don't actually check the fandom pages themselves. Because if they did a lot more stories would have been deleted.
But a back-up is always smart^^

Don't update yet. Two groups are working in tandem to delete, delete and delete some more. Critics United and Fanfiction Rennaissance. (The last one makes me laugh. Fanfiction Rennaissance? More likely Fanfiction Middle Ages!)

Does anyone else know of any fairly popular fanfiction sites? I'm really starting to dislike things about FF, but I don't want to delete my story.

The last one makes me laugh. Fanfiction Rennaissance? More likely Fanfiction Middle Ages!) LOL - true! Renaissance means Rebirth in French, after all, and what they do is pretty much the opposite. Fanfiction Crusade would be another nice term. Does anyone else know of any fairly popular fanfiction sites? I'm really starting to dislike things about FF, but I don't want to delete my story. Not really, the good ones I know are not HP archives. But I suspect that some of the others are going to skyrocket in popularity, seeing that FFN is causing a mass exodus. It might be worth it to collect some interesting links you stumble over in AN, reviews, profiles etc. and watch these sites. Might help to settle on a better source.

If they keep this up no one will use FF.net again, or their sister site...

AO3 (Archives of our Own) is awesome. You can either upload via HTLM (so for those who saved their stories that way, no need to re-translate the whole thing), have a lot of tags which makes searching for a story easier AND they don't have a policy like ff.net.
Before, you could upload via and already existing story from another site, but ff.net blocked this function. I'm a member there as a back-up but I'm thinking of going there permanently.
Other sites that exist are livejournal, tumblr, yahoo groups.

I'm thinking of moving my stories to yourfanfiction. Granted, there aren't a lot of categories at the moment but if you email the administrators, they'll add the category you requested and they'll be prompt in responding to your email too.

I'm on Wattpad (they have a growing community of fanfiction readers!), YourFanfiction and HP Fandom for now. I also sent an e-mail to join the AO3 (since it's invite only at the moment).

....for real? That's insane. And I'm sure it's not that new because I've been hearing about it for a while.

I send my request in March I guess and by the end of May I already could sign up, but I didn't only recently I made an account because of these problems we're having at ff.net.
