This ones bugged me for a while but I honestly get sick of how many characters get shouted at for saying something simple as bloody hell.
Bloody might be classed as one but I always think of 'His/She's/There arm was all bloody', surely they should be shouted at for that if people are so concerned about swearing?
As for hell? Duh heaven vs hell. It's natural.

Hear hear. I'm American so I don't really understand why it's such a big deal in England to say bloody? Can someone explain that to me? I can understand wanting to set an example for the younger students but why does Sirius or Bill or Charlie get in trouble with it from Molly? Sirius isn't related to Molly close enough and Bill and Charlie are adults, so what's the deal?

I've never really understood that. Bloody Hell always seemed equivalent to Dammit or What the hell? Besides, it's somewhat ridiculous to assume that Molly and Hermione aren't just immune to it being said by the people around them.
At the same time, why would Ginny tell anyone off? She's a tomboy, not a prim lady!

My impression was that the Americans have the problem with it, but I could be mistaken.
Anyway, never understood all that yelling about every little word, even 'prat'. If Molly (the one mostly doing the shouting) can't bear that, then she should become a nun and go to a convent.
The most annoying is when Hermione is constantly hitting the boys about it. Even after she learned that Harry was abused. In a few stories I ended up wanting to slap her silly.

I honestly felt like putting her in Harry's situation before pulling her out, sticking her in a room full of people and a book and then hitting her like she does Harry just to see what happens. I had read 1 story before where Ron has a go at her for it and explains that Harry was abused etc but then she went overboard and mionecoddled him. (((doesn't feel right saying molly  ))) |

Nup they didn't and I can't remember. May have been 'The Venquine's' but I'm not to sure. I've read so many of these things and I don't always look at the actual author unless I subscribe to them.

I don't mind swearing, and in some situations I encourage it. Like I can't see someone being picky about what they say when they're in the middle of a fight. I've always subscribed to the "Words are just words, and they can't hurt you unless you give them power" theory.

Plus it doesn't help that most of my friends and people I knew have dirty mouths, so I knew and used every "bad" word daily by the time I was 11.

I think what people consider 'good' and 'bad' swearing changes on the situation - like my mum won't let us say bloody in front of her, or crap, damn, etc. But my brother goes to an all boys' school and he just spews stuff out.
There are a lot of stories I've read - mostly by American authors - where someone like Hermione will say "What the hell were they thinking?!"
And then Ron normally says something about Hermione cursing - I wouldn't consider that swearing personally - it's definitely not generally considered swearing in England.

Haven't watched it in years - but, yeah, that's where the name came from. I haven't bothered changing it, because that's what I wrote under on FFNet, so it was easier for my readers to find me elsewhere.
