I love Prisoner of Azkaban, though Goblet of Fire is a very close second.

I still think the Deathly Hallows was a great conclusion to the series. And because there were many important things in it I voted for it. But the best scene is still the Slaying of the Basilisk (tm).

Prisoner of Azkaban most definitely. I would have said Order of the Phoenix but Sirius dies in it.

LOL - I could live with it if JKR hadn't killed Sirius in it And if Dumbledore hadn't been so stupid and annoying and Snape not been so annoying and ... and ... well, you get the drift

I actually like it b/c Sirius died... I was like crying for 15 minutes before I could continue reading... but it was so good... (and I liked hearing Harry's thoughts on Snape and Dumbledore... Harry can be really creative sometimes...)

I liked OOTP because I felt that it had such a deep level emotionally. Yes, I hated it when Sirius died as he's one of my top five characters, but deaths can't put me off from loving a book. If I did that, I would hardly have any favourite books.

While I loved all of the books; The Goblet of Fire is my favorite. The other books are great in different ways, with that said; POA seemed a little bit rushed for me. And the movie that proceeded said book was my least favorite of the series. They left so much out and changed things around and I didn't like that about the film. If we could go back in time to when POA was to be filmed I'd have the team do things a little differently. But this is just my opinion.

Apparently I'm the only one who likes Half-Blood Prince. Harry shows his full potential as independent, smart, resourceful, and just plain sixteen-year-old sarcastic awesomeness, in my opinion.
PoA and DH are close seconds, though

I don't know about HBP... I just liked the ending... it's not a bad book, (It's a part of the Harry Potter series... "bad" is not a word allowed to describe anything that has to do with HP) but IDK... it was... happy-ish, until the ending... I like mixed emotions and turmoil in the story, although I loved the Romione parts...

I agree with Dimcairien. OotP because it has Sirius in it. And with my habit of picking favourite characters who end up dead, I couldn't read Harry Potter if I hated a book when they die since ALL of my favs die. And I do mean all! Except for Ginny. BTW does ayone else hate the movies Ginny as much as I do? Nothing against Bonnie Wright she's just so... Mild compared to the fiery Ginny I had in mind.

I know what you mean about that stupid habit of having favorite characters dying, it happens to me everywhere; books, tv, movies...also don't get me started on movie-Ginny, considering I think they royally screwed up her role in the sixth movie (which I can rant about for awhile all on its own...), which as I said earlier was my favorite book, and as this is not a forum for rants about such things, I'm gonna stop talking now. More to the subject at hand, I know Half-Blood Prince has less dark stuff (minus the whole Riddle biography), and less action than others, but I think that's why it stands out. We know JKR can write Harry doing amazing stuff, and magic duels and adventures and mysteries, but that one reminds us that these are all teenage kids at heart, and she can apparently write their 'normal' stuff pretty well too. Besides, I think they all deserved a break by that time anyway. And again, Harry's humor/sarcasm/awesomeness just make me giddy every time I think about it all.

We should start a forum to rant about movie-Ginny though. Just for the heck of it I love those bits of Riddle because he is one of those favourites that die (yeah, I like Voldemort) and his life is interesting in a weird way. Plus the parallels to Harrys upbringing are illuminating. Just one example that while childhood is important to ones later life it can't be your excuse for behaving badly. And that teenage stuff was very therapeutic when friends or I, for that matter, were going through similar things. But following that line of thought, every book is my favourite in different situations. If you like sarcastic Harry, what do you make of ch. Dudley Demented? That's one of my favourite chapters.

well, I'd definitely contribute if you did True, Tom is a fascinating character, more so than his alter-evil-ego, but since they are the same, you can't discount him. I totally understand the whole therapeutic thing; I was sixteen when the sixth book came out originally, so I think all the humor, thoughts, and teenager-ness of it all just clicked for me more so than any other book at any other time. First impressions stay with you for life, after all. Dudley Demented is an ok chapter for me. I'm no a huge fan of the fifth book in general because I didn't like the angry/moody Harry, and there he went a little past sarcastic and into vindictive for my taste. Mainly, it's things like the Felix trick with Ron, the bantering with Hermione about Filch/Pince, inviting Luna to parties, 'no need to call me sir, professor' kinda Harry I loved the best, and his sarcasm just happened to show up as well, with perfect timing to boot. I actually tried reading this book out loud with my sister and simply couldn't get through one chapter without bursting out into laughter (needless to say, I was promptly 'fired').

I too have the habit of my favourite characters being the one's that die. I mean, my top five HP characters are Fred, George, Sirius, Remus, and Tonks!
I still enjoyed HBP, though I did find it a bit slow, though now that I'm older, I can understand the teenage actions a bit better, but I think one reason I didn't like that book too much was I thought that everyone was acting extremely immaturely. I really liked the confirmation of Harry/Ginny in it as well as the development of Ron and Hermione's relationship as well as Remus and Tonks' relationship.

I love Remus... he's the best Oh, and btw... I LOVE Dudley Demented... Harry's FINALLY becoming the usual snappy teenager (although I reached that point when I was 13... but I didn't blow up my aunt, so...)
