What if the night Dumbledore, Minerva, and Hagrid left Harry on the doorstep he got up and walked away? He was a toddler, and would've been walking by that time.
Don't have to take this option, but before Sirius could get to Peter he somehow sees Harry walking around and takes him to raise him?
Ginny and Harry, Ron and Hermione, Remus and Tonks must be a couple. All the others are up for grabs. I prefer reading Luna/Neville together.
If you decide to take this challenge please post the link to the story when you get it up.

Now that would serve the old codger right. Though you'd have to make sure that poor Sirius isn't hunted all the time. But I love the idea

I know. Maybe they go to America . Wizards wouldn't think to look there.. Maybe too Sirius gets a trial in America somehow.

Like in a story I know, the British could convict Sirius in absence, as they tried with Harry in OotP, and then get their butts kicked by the ICW ... *eg*

Close enough, yes, and the title was a bit strange anyway. And with so many stories with often rather similar titles ...
