Octavius arrived at Ivory House a half-hour later than he wanted to, but the Goblin Murder Case had caused a lot of problems. He had been tied up in a lot of paperwork and checking over the evidence to determine weather or not a Gringotts goblin had done it or not. From what they could tell, they hadn't. But there was still a lot of work involved - the entire department was being called on this. Damn that Garrison!
He knew that Maxwell was going to preform the Fire Acceptance ritual, which would ultimately allow him to absorb the fires of a Heliopath. This fire was needed in order to defeat the Dementors, which they still hadn't learned the location of. Octavius sighed.
What was Marigold doing? How hard was it to sleep with someone for information? He had managed to do it in the past, and he was straight for crying out loud! "Maxwell?" he called out. "Maxwell? Please don't tell me you went ahead and did it already!"
There was no answer, but he could hear faint murmurs of conversation coming down from the hall. Frowning, he walked toward the source of the noise, until he arrived at Maxwell's room.
"...if it stings or you don't feel anything, the burn is getting worse or deeper, and we'll need to treat it."
Curious and concerned, Octavius opened the door a crack, and looked to see what was going on.
"Alright." he whispered hoarsely, smiling a goofy, tired smile at her.

Alice rubbed the cloth across Maxwell's arm, allowing the ointment to seep inside. One his arm was covered and cooled, she moved to his chest. Leaning over, her back to the door, she began rubbing his chest. The action made her blush brightly, but she continued to rub the cloth across his chest. The silence of the room was deafening, and made her even more embarassed.
"Does this feel alright?" she asked, making polite conversation, "I'm not hurting you, am I?"

"You're doing a wonderful job, Alice." Maxwell nearly purred. "That feels amazing." Which was only the truth. The nice, cool feeling was simply divine. He felt very pleased at the moment, and wished he had a way of really thanking her.
---
Unfortunately, Octavius couldn't see very well, but from what he could tell, she was caressing his chest.
"Does this feel alright? I'm not hurting you, am I?"
"You're doing a wonderful job, Alice. That feels amazing."
Octavius's face went a shade of red. Oh hell's bells! Maxwell, you wouldn't!
"Mmmm. Right there. Yessss."
Oh who was he kidding? Of course Maxwell would do that! He'd fuck anything that had a pair of tits and a pretty face! Half-disgusted, half-alarmed, Octavius burst in the door, covering his eyes, so as not to see Maxwell's manly bits. "Maxwell, don't do it! You don't know her well enough!"

Alice was still blushing a bright red, but a pleased smile crossed her face when Maxwell told her she was doing a good job. Her hand continued across his chest, rubbing the burns gently to prevent infections and cool them off, until-
"Maxwell, don't do it! You don't know her well enough!" cried a voice.
Alice jumped, and turned around in shock. Octavius was standing there, his eyes covered by his hand. Alice felt herself go a deep red, and her eyes widened as she realized what Octavius must have thought. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out.

Maxwell bolted up at once, his face going red at what Octavius was implying. He instantly regretted it, as pain shot through him jarringly. "What the hell, Octavius?" he ground out against the burning sensation. "She's just healing me!"
---
Octavius removed his hand, and sure enough, they were still fully clothed. Maxwell's chest had ugly marks all across them. His eyes widened. "Oh...um...right." He slowly backed out of the door, and walked down the hall, feeling completely mortified.
Oh man, Veronica would never let him live this down!

Alice was mortified as Octavius walked out. When Olivia had implied it, she hadn't noticed. When Octavius implied it, she'd never been more mortified. Unable to look at Maxwell, she shut her eyes for a minute, and then turned to face him. He was wincing in pain, and she felt her previous inhibitions and embarassment fade as she walked over.
"Lie down, I still need to finish cooling your burns off. Where does it hurt?" she instructed calmly. Her priorities as a Healer overriding her embarrassment as she took Maxwell's shoulders, and helped him lie down.

"Sorry about that." Maxwell said, teeth gritted, as he laid back down. "Octavius can be a git sometimes." he took a sharp breath. "It hurts near my left rib, and a bit down the side."

"It's alright, he was only looking out for you," she said with a blush, as she moved to check his rib. There wasn't any bruises or anything broken, just the burns.
"Here, let me wipe the burns down," she said, taking the cloth back to his chest.
"It looks alright, but you probanly strained yourself. Try not to move your arms too much. The skin is still healing and if you strain it, then it might burst. Do you want Octavius in here, I can go get him," offered Alice as she moved her cloth-covered hand to Maxwell's side.

"I'll keep your advice in mind. And yes, please bring him in here. I'd like to have a word with him." he said the last bit with a slight edge of annoyance. What the hell did Octavius think he was doing? "Why don't you go ahead and take it easy? You've done more than enough for me." He smiled at her to let her know that he was very grateful. "I'll see to it that you have a nice bonus for this."

"Alright," said Alice, as she wiped the last burns down. "I'll need to apply the Burn-Healing Paste in two hours, and you'll need to take a potion for your own immunity to prevent a fever with breakfast. I'll Floo back here in two hours. Excuse me while I get Octavius for you. And don't worry about the money, this is my job, and I love it."
She finished wiping the burns and stood up to go.

Idiot! Idiot! Idiot! Octavius thought, smacking himself on the head. He paced in the living room, feeling a sense of impending doom. Merlin, Maxwell is going to kill me! But why were they being so damn suggestive! It's their fault, not mine!

Alice entered the living room and found her face bright red. Octavius was pacing the living room floor. He's probably worried for Maxwell, she thought, and her expression softened.
"Mr. Octavius," she said, crossing the croom to approach him, "Maxwell's fine, he's waiting for you in his room. There's no need to worry. He seems particularly energetic, and wants to reassure you before he slept."

Octavius looked away from her. "Thank you, Alice. I appreciate you looking after him. Pleasant dreams." And with that, he walked down the hall, toward Maxwell's room.
---
Maxwell sighed. Sometimes, he just wanted to strangle Octavius for his stupidity...
There was a knock at the door.
"Come in." he said, feeling a headache come on.
And sure enough, Octavius entered , looking sheepish and remorseful.
"You...wanted to see me, Maxwell?"
"What was that about, Octavius?" he snapped tiredly. "Why did you decide to burst in, shouting such inappropriate things?"
"I thought you guys were going to - "
"I know what you thought. I want to know why you decided to burst in, even if that were the case?"
---
Octavius gulped. How could he possibly explain the threat that Alice posed? Maxwell wouldn't believe it, not one bit. Not after what happened at the cemetery... he winced at the thought. Now wasn't the time for such things. But what could he say? There was the great imposing Maxwell Rosebane, looking ready to condemn him in a second. "I...I just wanted to make sure you were...safe!"
Yeah, that was it!
"Look, Octavius, nothing happened between us. And even if it did, I'm not lazy enough to forget the damn condom." Maxwell sighed tiredly, which was better than him going in to a rage. "Just...just go. We'll talk more tomorrow."
Octavius relaxed, realizing that Maxwell wouldn't hold this against him. "Okay. Um, goodnight, Maxwell."
"Good night, Octavius. Turn out the light on your way out."
Octavius did as he was told, and gently shut the door. Holy fuck! That was close! Note to self: get my head out of the damn gutter!

Alice woke up the next morning feeling incredibly tired. She had spent the night worrying about Maxwell. She hoped that whatever he had done to himself had helped. Yet, she couldn't help but wonder what he had done. Those burns had looked terrible, and those cuts were deep. Sighing, she lifted herseld out of bed and moved to the kitchen.
Veronica woke up early the next morning and found herself in Cassalina's arms again. She smiled at her girlfriend's sleeping face, and a naughty thought entered her head. Friskily, she moved so she was on top of Cassalina, and lowered her head by Cassie's ear.
"Wake up dear, it's not good to leave a lady hanging," she teased.

"Wake up, dear, it's not good to leave a lady hanging." came Veronica's husky, seductive tone. Cassalina felt her cheeks warm slightly.
"Good morning, Veronica." she murmured, looking into her girlfriend's beautiful face. A yawn came out of her throat against her will. "You seem especially chipper today."

"It's the weekend," said Veronica, "And I get to spend two days, in bed, with you. Tell my why I'm not supposed to be chipper."
As she said this, she slid off Cassie, and lay down beside her, smirking.

Cassalina blushed at the mention of being in bed, as dirty thoughts started to come to mind. "Well, I suppose that's a good enough reason to be in a good mood." she replied sheepishly. "So, shall we go get some breakfast? I'm feeling pretty hungry."

Veronica gave a devilish smirk, as she leaned closer to Cassalina and placed a hand on Cassalina's shoulder, her lips only a centimetre or so apart from the other woman's.
"I could find something to quench that hunger of yours," she said with a low seductive voice, and then, with a flirty wink, she jumped out of bed. "See you at the breakfast table. I'll see what I can find to satisfy you!"
She couldn't help but laugh. Teasing Cassalina in the mornings was proving to be more fun than she thought!

Cassalina sat on the bed, gaping as Veronica left. After several long moments, she managed to come out of her daze, face as red as a tomato. Shaking her head, she quickly put something on and followed Veronica. All the while trying to think of a way to get her back. Sadly, nothing good came to mind.
By the time she got to the kitchen, her face still had a flushed look to it.

Alice couldn't help but smile slightly despite the envy in her heart as Veronica and Cassie entered the kitchen. She'd already made some coffee for everyone. As usual, Veronica looked pleased, and Cassie was flushed. Long ago Alice had stopped asking what had happened. Veronica's innuendos made her blush.
"Good morning," she said cheerfully.
"Good morning Alice," said Veronica, grabbing a cup of coffee, "See anything you like Cassie? I did promise you something satisfying."
From Veronica's teasing tone, Alice suspected an innuendo from the morning, and again she felt envy. She wanted someone to wake up with, and share jokes with. Someone who was entirely her own.

Cassalina blushed, but didn't take the bait this time. "W-well, I don't know... the coffee looks pretty good.." she said, trying to keep her tone light and flirty. "But I see something better..." she walked over to Veronica and acted as though she were going to hug her, only to grab a piece of toast from the plate. She stuck her tongue out playfully.

Veronica gave Cassie a playful angry pout, "Toast? Hardly as sweet as what I can offer."
Then remembering Alice, she slipped into a chair, and asked, "So, did you sleep well Alice?"
"A little, I was working last night though on my Healing job," she said with a yawn,
Veronica looked surprised, what Healing job? Since when was Alice a Healer?

Cassalina ate her toast, smiling to herself. It was rare when she won a verbal dance with Veronica, so she savored it the best she could. Then she remembered her completed Magic-Leeching Serum waiting downstairs and grinned. Oh yes, she couldn't wait to send it!
Suddenly, today felt ten times better than it already was.
She only came back to her senses when Cassalina heard Alice mention her healing job. Alice had told her in confidence that Maxwell hired her on to look after him, but to think that she had been up all night... "Is he alright?" she asked, her good mood dropping instantly.

"He's fine, but he burned himself badly last night," said Alice with a worried look on her face, "And he cut his arms up. I got to him and managed to fix him up. Mr. Octavius showed up towards the end. He thought we were doing, other things."
Alice felt the blush crawl back into her cheeks at the reminder.
"I just wish he wouldn't do those things, why does he need to hurt himself like that?" asked Alice.
"Who was hurt?" asked an annoyed Veronica, sounding rather put out by something.
Alice looked to Cassalina, unsure if she was allowed to say anything.

Cassalina glanced at Veronica, her expression grim. Had last night been the night for the ritual? Merlin! "She's talking about Maxwell. I didn't say anything because it wasn't my place, but part of her job is to look after him. I miss understood and thought she was supposed to be a bit of a helper and health adviser." She then got up. "I think I need to get Octavius. If my guess is correct, last night was the night." She put emphasis on the the last two words, and darted off for the living room.
She activated the floo and fire-called him. "Octavius, we need you here! Hurry!"
"Alright, alright. I'll be there in a few minutes." came his grumpy tone.
Cassalina then went back out to the kitchen, and waited for him to come in.

Veronica's eyebrows raised on her head, and she looked between Cassalina and Alice for a few minutes. Then she fixed her stare on a confused looking Alice. Why was this girl Maxwell's private Healer all of a sudden? Worse, what happened at the ritual last night? Once Cassalina re-entered the kitchen, she pulled her to the side of the kitchen.
"If last night was the night, and Alice saw Maxwell, what do we tell her? She's already suspicious, and the next part will be worse," said Veronica quietly to Cassaline nervously.

"We're going to have to tell her." Cassalina whispered back, her stomach souring. What if Alice didn't want to be apart of this anymore? "We can't keep this hidden. Even I don't know all the details though - that is why I asked Octavius to come. With any luck, we can make her see the good in this, and how necessary it is."
Octavius came soon after that, yawning and grumbling about being woken up so early. Never mind that he should have been at work twenty minutes ago. But his mood became serious when he spotted Alice in the kitchen. "So, I take it we need to have a talk?" he asked them, taking a seat beside Veronica.

Alice couldn't understand what was going on. Everyone seemed so tense and serious, and suddenly she felt like they were looking at her! What did that mean? And why did she feel like it had something to do with Maxwell's condition last night.
"Is something wrong?" she asked nervously, suddenly worried that they didn't want her anymore.
"We need to ask you a few questions and give you a few answers," said Veronica coolly, "Why don't you start, Octavius, since you were the witness last night and know more than us?"
|
|
|
Post by kumainpink on Aug 3, 2012 6:55:22 GMT -5
Octavius ground out, frustrated. "No, I wasn't the witness there. Maxwell went ahead and did it without me being there. But I do know that he went to preform one of his family's old power rituals - The Fire Acceptance Ritual." he looked at Alice as he answered the question, because the others already knew of such a thing. He looked to Cassalina questioningly, and she nodded. Okay, so they were laying their cards out on the table. He could deal with that.
"It is for the absorption of a Heliopath's fire magic."

Alice's eyes went wide at that bit of information. Veronica eyed her like a hawk. She was ready to obliviate her when the girl began blathering about leaving.
"He's doing what?! But it's incredibly dangerous to use Heliopath fire when not taken willingly! He should have had someone there! The fire can burn someone inside out if the proper precautions aren't taken!" cried Alice.
Veronica stared at the girl in shock. How did she know this about Heliopaths? It had taken Veronica months to find any information on the creatures when she sifted through her department files.
"It's also illegal," said Veronica, coaxing the girl to say something stupid.
Again, to her surprise, Alice simply paled, and then shrugged.
"Maxwell must be using it for something good rather than selfish, right? May I ask what he wants it for anyways?" asked Alice with an air of innocence, once again shocking Veronica. Why did she take illegal matters so simply?
