I've got my own little area at googlesites, and have just started backing my first story up there. I've only put chapter one up so far, and because it is only the first attempt, it may well change with more comments being added, but if anyone has time, could they please have a quick look to see what they think of it? sites.google.com/site/physicssquid/home/stories/harry-potter/rtb---book-1/chapter-1If you want to tell me your thoughts, either send me a pm here, or eail me at physicssquid@gmail.com or jacquisuter@yahoo.co.uk. Whichever is easier.

I have just had a look at the site and it looks like it may work so i would say that moving the fictions over to there may keep them on one site for longer I have just read there terms and conditions and they say that as long as you don't copy the books exactley and make small canges or miss out a little of the text, they are not a breach of copy write and are allowed for more infomation see the link bellow. www.yourfanfiction.com/viewpage.php?page=rules

Just a question (maybe a stupid one) who and/or what are those critics united guys? Do they have a website or something or is it just a group of ffn? They're a group of "fanfic critics" - read cyber bullies - that are uber-pshyco about rules and go out of their way to report fics that offend them. They're also very rude to the people they review.

Hey everyone yesterday I was creating a fanfiction site for regular Harry and Naruto fanfiction. When I got done I decided to also include a section that only members can see and get access to. This section is labeled Email summaries. It's where people with RTB can go and post their summaries. That way new readers can read your stories. It has a RTB sections for HP, Hunger games, Percy Jackson, Twilight, and an Other category.. I suggest if you try it that you read all of the INFOs. They're really important. fanfictionletyourmindwonder.freeforums.org

What if someone got approval from the author to do a RtB fic, how can that person prove that they have consent from the author? I was just wondering. Nobody would believe it.

That could backfire on us spectacularly. As of now JK might not be aware of RtB fics but if she did find out and didn't approve and made that public knowledge it would make things even more difficult if not impossible to post these types of stories.

And that is where I stop at the line. Unless she knows and is turning a blind eye to it. We are keeping it a secret which isn't really good. I think we should ask her, get her opinion on it. I know that a lot of people love these stories, I do too, but it would make me feel better knowing what the author thinks. Even though I love these stories, I would like to know if it is ok or not. keeping it a secret and making "secret societies" makes it sound really bad. Also, if she doesn't know about it and comes across it, instead of us going to her and asking, then we could be dealing with something bigger than just a shut down. We could be looking at going to court about it. And I'm not talking about only the one person she found, after finding one she will look for more. I'm actually thinking about not going ahead of my email list now. I don't know why or how, but I've had a change of thinking about this. Really, think about it, we are using her works, shouldn't she know what is being done with it? Also, we are plagerizing in a way because even though we say we don't own it, we are still using it to our hearts content like it is our own and we do go word for word with it. That is my point of view, I'm not saying that I'm going to quit writing them right now, but I am saying that I'm seeing this in a new light. You can agree or disagree, I don't care.

I agree it is probably a good thing to remove some paragraphs every once in a while so we are not in copyright infringement. In fact after thinking about it I think it is something all author's should do to protect themselves but don't ruin it for the rest of us by purposefully going and reporting these stories to JK.
I know CU and others says we are stealing money from the author by posting these stories since people get the whole story without buying the book but seriously there's this thing called a library. Anyone who wants to can go read these books for free, what's the difference if they read them from the library or from these stories.

I can't believe what they do. I can't understand how they can just destroy someone's work without regret (which is how I see it). I'm just warning that if we don't ask then there might be a bigger problem on our hands than just being deleted or banned. I'm going to continue the email list, but I believe that is it, I'm not going to post any RtBs online anymore.

And I'm pretty sure that some people think like me and even though they have a hard copy version of the original books, they would also like to have an electronic version as well, just in case they lose the hard copy. That's what I would like, to have every single book I own in hard copy and electronic as well, which just means that I can read the stories, even if the hard copy disappears or gets damaged in such as way as to make it unreadable. I don't see how that could cause the author to lose money, and even if it did, I don't see the point in paying for a hard copy version as well as buying them as e-books.

An electronic copy has more advantages - you can search for quotes or details you need without having to thumb through god knows how many books. Plus, when travelling, you can take the laptop or whatever you use to store them and don't have to carry a huge pile of books.
Actually, I know that many libraries already have added electronic versions of many books to their stock, it's coming big, it seems.
As for asking the author ... that can be a double-edged sword and in the worst case scenario lead to them forbidding *all* fanfiction, not only the RtB stories, because it's so hard to control what people actually post.

TBH, I prefer PDF's oer regular books for a variety of reasons, the largest reason being I can read a PDF on my laptop or phone in the dark without light, but with books you can't really.

Yeah, but I love reading too much to bother with things like that, especially since my laptop has so much different viewing options, I can make it as easy on my eyes as possible.

I read on my laptop and find it easy as well. It does hurt the eyes and I do be careful. When my eyes start to hurt or something, I just pull the plug, my computer dims when it isn't hooked up.

I prefer reading on a laptop or my ipod because you can edit the text size and back-light. It's just nicer to read large print with a white font on dark background, you know?

...hmm, well... this sucks. I must figure out which stories I want to keep up with and find out more if they are going to keep writing and all... and reading through all 12 pages... I need a tl:dr summary.

-sigh- I've just found you all and this happens. It must discouraging to say the least! Though hopefully having fans (old and new) helps to off set that. I for one would love to continue to read all of your works and was wondering how I could go about that? I've been seeing links and such all throughout the thread here but will there be a centralized place again, or has that been ruled out as too risky due to theses CU extremists? Any information or direction would be lovely. P.S. I happen to agreed with the library analogy for whatever my two cents is worth

truestblue Your best bet would be to contact the writers you're interested in and ask if they're posting elsewhere or have a mailing list set up.
