I had one girl who sent me a message every time I updated, saying update soon, and it used to drive me insane.and the people who just put a smiley face. Why even bother?

Taken from Fan Fiction.net terms of service.
In other words CU can get in some serious trouble if they're removing stories, by making false copyright claims.

Have they made those claims against nonRtB?

I know how hard is it to write "I'm really enjoying your story so far and can't wait for more"
Polite, tells them their doing good and subtly encourages more. It's not that difficult.

That reminds me of the two or three reviewers I noticed who kept posting the same review over and over again to each chapter of each story. In the one case, the review in itself was already rather repetitive. It may have been meant well, but never made much sense to me.

Hate to say this, but at least you get reviews. I'm one of those that don't even get an "I like it". I only have 10 or 11 reviews over 4 stories. Three are one shots and one is a multichapter. The reviews I've gotten are pretty indepth, like they actually read them, which I'm really happy about. One story doesn't have any reviews and the three stories that have have only gotten reviewed this year ( two of the stories were posted last year....15 months ago and just now got reviews for them). Sometimes it makes me wonder if I'm a good enough writer.

Don't be to tough on yourself. Sometimes people just don't see the point in reviewing or don't review becuase they don't want to offend the writer. When I first heard of fanfiction and started reading I didn't review at first cause anytime I started to type one out I felt it sounded stupid or that the writer would take what I said the wrong way.

I know. I do it too. I also can be the "I love it" and just that reviewer. I do put "please update" but I din't put the "now" I put "soon". But yeah I have to keep telling myself that I'm not doing it for the reviews or hits (*mutters* even though those are low too) and that I'm doing this because I like it. The reviews are helpful in motivating me, but it is the fact that I'm having fun.

Admittedly, in the beginning I didn't review because I was worried I'd get laughed at, as my English wasn't that good back then. Besides, I was struggling to put my thoughts into words with my limited vocabulary.
Today, I still don't review everything, it depends on my time and if I have to say anything useful. For *if* I review, then it has to be a proper review, not just a demand for updates. Sometimes I feel bad for not leaving a review, but particularly when I sneak in at work, I just can't multitask that much besides working, and I write reviews while reading, not afterwards.

What in the world happened to the layout in this thread? I thought it was just my phone, but it is also on my laptop. It looks like the past four posts somehow got into Viralic's post...... And it keeps happening, this post is the same way!

I noticed it too, and the quick reply is covered by an ad so I can't use it. I also thought it was my computer, but now I wonder.

Ah, and I had thought it was a side loading error and would probably go away next time ... let's hope that when the thread reaches the next page the mistake goes away.

Just had a thought. Maybe it is good not to have a lot of reviews or hits, it might keep my stories under the radar (though I don't have anything for the CU to actually complain about, all my stories go by the guidelines....unless it is my old, old, old story or the multichapter. They could complain that the multichapter is too graphic or something )

You know I find for a story to stay in character it needs the odd direct quote from the original source.
Many stories I've read have had characters say the exact same thing as they do in the novels. If they are allowed to stay when they include direct quotes aren't they being slightly hypercritical to punish RtB's.

Mountaingirl, my impression is that they target not the bad, but the popular stories, so you might even be right, who knows? (Save they read this here and act on it, of course)
Unbeastly, what do you expect? Look at what they call 'constructive criticism'. Though the odd quote is one thing and even with printed books normal as long as you supply the source, using the whole book entirely another matter.

This formatting is confusing the hell out of me, guys D: But I do think that the popular stories are much easier for them to find, because more people see them so more people are ale to report them to the cu if they feel the need to. If you write a story and it's not as popular, you're probably safer

Hopefully when it goes to a new page, it should sort itself out. Fingers crossed.
Juniper Potter by Havenspire has just been uploaded to ff.net (third time), at the moment, reviewers (including myself) have been giving her some info to her story, as she as changed it from a male Harry into a female one. We giving her constructive criticism regarding the changing of the sexes, from "him" to "her", etc. She has been very grateful for the help we have been giving her. Currently she's posted up to chapter 42.

Has anyone ever thought about complaining to FF.Net's sponsors. sponsors? they have sponsors? o.O I always thought they get the money to run the site from the advertisements all over it... either way, I don't think they'd care much. they get all the advertisements they need, ff.net gets cash to run, so why listen to us right? :/

that or it might get the site into more trouble if we complain.

You'd probably have to contact the companies who do the ads here - I believe the site is paid by way of the ads.

The ads you see on ff.net are keyed to pick up on cookies from your computer. If you are on say drugstore.com then you'll notice that those ads pop up. Same with if you were on Target's website or Walmart. Complaining to them will not do you any good.
