Considering the problems with the RtB stories we keep encountering, my idea was to start a mailing list, which would make us independent from any website. Plus, it being not online, it shouldn't be a legal problem.
My idea is that we keep a list here which stories are posted there, and name some people who organise it. As not everyone would give their email address in a public post, they could PM one of the organisers, who could add them to the lists.
We can update this with details if we go along with it. For the moment, it's still a rough idea.

Sorry, I have already a phpBB board and no idea how to deal with the technical part. A former Admin just threw it into my lap and vanished. Plus, there we would run into the very same problem as here - it's public and someone would try to get everything deleted.

There is the technical issues associated with mailing list also, and if we use something like yahoo groups, we have their TOS to deal with just the same as with any forum, and they also archive the posts.

I rather deal with tech issues of a Mailing list then worrying about trolls reporting the stories.

Me too. With any website we move to we will end up with the same problem sooner or later, so it's the lesser evil for me.

Should we create a thread or board that has a story summaries so anyone can pm which story they want. That way it can be added to with new stories and new people can recieve the story later.

I say we go with that! it helps, and I think it would be a great idea, I already get updates from fanfiction.net for other stories that I have, why not this?

Yeah, having a summary board is a good idea.

We could have the board and an author would make a thread labeled with their name. In the thread the author could post summaries for every story they do.(they don't even all have to be hp rtb.)If a person has it on another site they could post the link with the summary. If they don't have it on another site people who find a summary they like could then pm the author their email and the title of the story they want.

I think we could actually just use the PM system to send the story. The author could PM multiple people at once and we could keep the usernames of people who want to get the new chapters in the first post of the thread requesting to be added for that story.

For RtB stories that would probably mean to send the chapter in more than one PM, as they are far over the character limit.

Generally, I like the idea of a summary-board. I only see one problem with this: It the threads are labeled wit hthe author's names, that only helps people find stories if they knoe who writes them. If someone was to look for a specific topic, like e.g. a "Founders read..." fic, they would have to read through all the threads to find one. That's not very sensible, is it?

The character limit for a PM is 60000, exactly the same as a normal post.
The benefits of using it would be that the author could blast everyone at once without everyone seeing each other's email addresses, and also that you have a separate place from your email where the chapters are stored, and proboards has the ability to backup PMs before you delete them.

Here's another possible method of getting people aware of new stories and new chapters. We could have a board, like the general discussion board, where people can create threads dedicated to each story, with that story's title and in those threads, we could have reviews and notices of new updates so people can find a story, without having to search for a certain author, just the story, and have a sticky thread that shows what stories are available.

I agree with you, I say we go for it, it would be good, I think I mean FFN has it in a way, so why not this?

That could work as long as it doesn't put the board in jeopardy, I would hate to do anything that might risk proboards shutting us down completely as I love this site and all the wonderful discussions we have here.

There is another forum that someone opened two days ago, with some of the same stuff on it, so if this does get shut down, then we could all just move there & continue our strange and lovely discussions. fanfictionletyourmindwonder.freeforums.org/I've already signed up, and while I still don't really know which category to put the summary for my story in, I think it seems to be a pretty good place to go.
