Well, fanfiction is legally a grey area already, and I do understand that the RtB fics are even more of a problem due to usually containing the full book text. So I can understand that they are deleted. But what annoys me is that it usually aren't the site admins who watch out for these and then act, but rely on people who snitch. And there are obviously a lot who have made it their mission to do just that. Plus, I notice that all the good stories with many reviews were the first to go, but hundreds of often bad others are left alone. Either delete all or none, that's my view.

I can't agree with you on that Kitty. FF.net is rapidly approaching three quarters of a million HP fanfics and AO3 is at nearly 80,000. I'm not sure how many admins there are at ff.net or if they are paid but I know that AO3 admins are volunteers. When you've as few rules as AO3 does (which basically boil down to 'don't post copyrighted works, don't try and make money off the site, don't harass people and don't try and damage the site or its users') it's not a great stretch to ask people who've either prevailed upon a friend to get an invite code or waited a couple of months to get an invite code to follow the rules. Which don't even include 'tag things correctly' and are far more forgiving as regards content than ff.net.
As for ff.net, the volume is simply too large that it makes sense to rely on the userbase (which is considerably larger than the number of admins) to report violations of the rules. Especially in such a clear-cut case as posting reading-the-HP-books fanfic. It makes sense that a popular story which had more reviews and thus more readers would be the one to go first since by definition more people would see it and there would be more chance of someone who cared about the rules seeing and reporting it than the one which was updated twice in 2009 and has 4 reviews.

Oh, sure, in that you are right. But if the site administrators were serious about enforcing the rules, they'd do at least a bit themselves. It's not that difficult to find RtB Fics, right? A short search and they would have lots. But they never do, they rely on reports only. And I am sure they never check if the complaints are even justified, they just delete, and in cases even for the wrong reason stated to the author, or for no reason at all. There was a story deleted for being a 'songfic' that didn't even contain a song title, never mind a song. I remember a case that happened 11 years ago already, at a time when the archive was much more manageable, where they kicked a story just because someone insisted the rating was wrong. Neither the one who reported it nor the admins could obviously ask the author to change the rating (which was IMO all right and, even if not, could simply have been raised and still been in the allowed range), oh no, too easy. Let's just delete the story with about 14 long chapters because someone complains about one paragraph, that's how a responsible admin acts ... (the same story was later allowed on a site where they are really strict on that sort of thing, but the admin there didn't see a problem with the scene, after being asked especially about it).
Sure, an archive of the size of FFN is hard to manage. But does that excuse to rely exclusively on users reporting, without doing any looking of their own, and to delete without due cause? Beyond that, my impression was that the admins actually protected these reporters even when they plain out bullied authors. Even if the story itself may be against the guidelines, as an admin I would never allow these people to be beyond rude, spew hate and abuse and even tell teenagers to kill themselves because they can't write. (Which I have seen even with stories that were well within the TOS). But if you complain about these people, nothing happens, not even if that's not an anonymous guest, but a signed-in one. That sort of admin doesn't much for me to respect them.

Hey could you give me link to discovering the legend 4 goblet of fire? Cos I can't find it on yourfanfiction or ff and on fictionhunt there are few chapters missing (I'm mostly looking for the chapter death eaters)

Sorry, but yourfanfiction doesn't exist any longer, and besides, that type of fanfiction tends to be taken down everywhere due to copyright infringement. I doubt it is online anywhere any more, or if it is, that it will stay there for long.
