I was hoping to find out, so I could work out what they would have cost in wizarding money.

Does anyone know how much Dudley's presents would have cost the Dursleys in 1991? A lot. I used Google to find out what things would cost in the 90s. It's not exact and I'm pretty sure some of it may be estimates. It's also American currency. Computer- $1000 (about) VCR- $175 TV- $770 (27" color) Computer games- $800 (that's 16 games at $50) Remote Control Plane- $150 (about) Racing Bicycle- $300 (about) Total (at least)- $3195 or £2008 (according to the converter) or 402 Galleons (if I got the right exchange rate) And that doesn't include the gold wristwatch or the video camera (I couldn't find prices on these two) or the other 14 gifts. We know Marge got him at least one gift (probably expensive). Personally I think she got him more than the one gift that was mentioned (she did like to shower him with gifts in front of Harry so it's likely to carry over to Dudley's birthday). She could have even got him one of the ones listed above with a price. And not all the gifts necessarily came from the Dursleys. A few may have come from close friends of Vernon and Petunia or maybe Dudley's friends. Either way that's a lot of money to spend on an 11 year old. As for the unmentioned gifts, is it possible some of them were clothes? I remember getting clothes for gifts when I was younger. But Dudley doesn't seem like the type that would accept that for a gift. Vernon was a Director at Grunnings right? I found two sites that give different salaries. The range is £80,000 - 120,000. The latter amount is from 2011, I'm not sure what year the other one is from. If he made in that range that's quite a bit of money (from my perspective anyway). I also think Vernon gets a bonus for bringing in big accounts. He would have been able to afford a vacation home had he landed the Mason account. I doubt that was his first chance at a bonus, I'm pretty sure they don't let just anyone bring home potential clients. The bonuses probably helped to supplement the cost of raising Dudley.

Ha, about time she finally admitted it! We all knew it already, of course, but it's nice that she finally gave up on her denial. Thanks for posting this, Gnovella!
