Some work well, others not so well. It depends on the author, the plot and what the crossover is, but that's just my opinion, other people may think differently.
I have to say that I do think HP/Stargate, HP/X-Men, HP/Underworld. HP/Resident Evil crossovers do work well, though of course that does depend quite a bit on how well the stroies are written as well as the plotlines used.

As Squid said, it depends on author's skill and the world it is mixed with, as well as the way it is done. Usually I don't like crossovers, because most I tried didn't work at all for me, but right now I actually read one I like - a HP/Dragonriders of Pern crossover. I don't know the Pern books at all, but it seems to fit rather well.

I like crossovers but it's hard to find one with a good plot and well written and unfortunately once you do find a good one then 9 times out of 10 it's abandoned. I like crossovers with lord of the rings, stargate, x-men, twilight (since I haven't read the books and only saw the first movie I don't know if the characters are ooc or not) and recently I've started reading avenger crossovers.

I did once read an HP/Mummy Returns crossover, which worked quite well, despite the fact that the timeline of the HP world had to be changed to fit with the plot, so instead of Harry being born in 1981, the author had him born in 1922. www.fanfiction.net/s/2549730/1/Desert_Warriorand its sequel is www.fanfiction.net/s/5299226/1/Desert_Magethough the sequel has been abandoned unfortunately. I do agree though, that it is hard to find crossovers with good plots that work.

It's tough. I prefer HP cross overs with other supernatural ones.
I read it once in awhile, if I get bored with 'normal' fics, but I always try to find completed ones. x)

I think it depends as well, personally, most crossovers work best if it's just two, and if the worlds themselves aren't too vast or different in time periods. But even then some can wow you. But when you try and do more characters, it turns to mush. The plot gets overridden trying to maintain the characters, or the characters end up flat for the plot.
