Seeing as how many of us like the story of Star I though that it would be a good idea to create a thread as a way of having a discussion about said story.
I do however think that we should set up some rules so that the story isn't targeted: 1. No mentioning the site used 2. No mentioning Star's full name 3. No posting the story link online 4. No swearing 5. If no one has seen the latest chapter then let them know that there's a new one up.

I think that rules aren't necessary.... Anyways, whats 'Stars story', never heard of it.

It's a story that shall remain nameless that is written by an author who will be known as Star to protect it from the trolls.
Basically it's in a witness protection program and we intend to keep it safe and free from harassment and murder.

Uh.... It's okay i guess.... Not my cup of tea. People say they hate it when Hermione is always super smart and the one who does all the intellectual work... The thing is, she does do most of it. She's the brains of the trio, Ron is the heart, and Harry is the moral/brawn.... I hate it when people make Harry this smart, scheming person all of a sudden- as far as I've seen, he's the type to rush into something, and take the physical route, not think something through that is legal- especially anything to do with the Ministry- He doesn't trust them!
So yeah... I'll give it a few more chapters (Just read number 1), but I don't think I'll end up liking it too much :/

I was also wondering- What couples does the author use? I might look into it more if there are good couples, but I'm probably just going to drop it.... It's sickening me how much they are babying Harry....

Pairings:
I try to keep it to the traditional pairings that J.K. Rowling did. However, I'm not above giving someone a guick fling or something along those lines. I like a highly intelligent Harry Potter yet with a pure and untainted soul. So a hero that is entirely brilliant, but is always up for some family affection.
When I write, I like to keep the romances similar to ones in the original books, but reading...I'm up for ANYTHING.
Taken from the origonal site that she used.

Oh, that explains it.... I hate Harry all smart and pure, and most of the traditional pairing. No wonder her story isn't appealing to me

Yeah Ginny/Harry is usually a big turnoff for me but I tolerate it in RtBs fics because usually it is such a minor part of the story and easily ignored.
And the super Harry part of the story is what has made me almost give up on it a time or two as I think it is stretched waaay to far, but I keep reading it because she points out things that other RtBs don't and I also love Sirius/Remus/Harry bonding fics and him accepting affection and some smothering after a lifetime of neglect doesn't bother me.
I do think she has introduced to many characters though. I actually really liked the OC uncles and thought them a great addition but there are so many characters I didn't even realize that they hadn't shown up for several chapters. When they finally showed back up I was like oh yeah I completely forgot about them, I would have liked to see their reaction to the things that happened in the chapters they disappeared from.

What I didn't like about the story was the overdone abuse, Harry's "side-job" and the extreme babying in the beginning (thankfully that's getting a bit better). I could do with a few less OCs, too, and for my taste, Dumbledore got off too easily.
On the other hand, I like how she points out everyone's mistakes, not just these the boys made. Finally someone who calls Hermione out on certain things, and the reactions to Snape had me smirking in satisfaction all the time. And Fudge and Umbitch are in trouble, too. That's what kept me reading.

I think that she may have realised that she had overdone and thats why those parts have been toned down a lot.

Yeah. Besides, there are always readers who love the overdoing - it's just not my cup of tea. I'm the first to say that Harry was abused, and probably a bit more than the book shows, but not *that* much as some authors make it out to be. For me it's more enjoyable to read when things are kept at an believable level.
The same goes for the relationship between Harry, Sirius and Remus. Some comfort, yes - but babying, no. But again, that's down to taste.

I started to read one the other day but as soon as it went into rules and spanking I quite it.

That's what turns me off, too. Contrary to some people, I don't believe spanking a child for everything is a sure sign of love.

Aye. It's liking saying "I love you, now let me spank you to prove it" or "I must spank you for all those times you saved the world"

Let's not forget that it's the best way to make sure that an already abused child/teen is going to distrust the adult who spanks it, too. For Harry, it's the worst idea ever. Never understand why people think that necessary, particularly when Sirius and Remus know about how he was treated at Durskaban.

I'm not sure that most people do understand what actual abuse is when they think of writing these stories. If you feel like having a look then search for english HP/SB fics, no relationships or story types and it should be that L.V Crawford or V.L.

Actually, that's the author I was thinking of. After some long arguments with her, I know her views rather well and can just say, I won't read her stories because I know she's doing too much of what I despise.

I honestly don't blame you. It should have been those type of stories that were targeted.

Maybe. I'd rather target these who can't spell even half the words right and never heard of grammar.

mm, or those unrealistic ones that have no direction in them- in other words mine I guess you haven't seen Orion Sirius Black then?

Hm ... I think I saw a summary where that name was mentioned and remember it vaguely - no Harry, but the main character Sirius's son or something like that? If you mean that one, then no, didn't even try to read it.

You don't want to. I think that the author only does it for fun.

Good to know I didn't miss anything!
It's really sad how hard it is to find good stories. FFN has so many, and how much of that is really readable?

Considering the fact that they seem to be reposting old stories I think that says a lot for FFN

The site is way too big to be kept properly, and the admins aren't even interested in it, sadly. That's why I always regret that it's not like my favourite LotR archive, where the quality is guaranteed. My guess would be that they'd refuse at least 95% of the stories that are posted on FFN.

I used to really like HPFanfiction but it never really updated and I'd found that I'd read ever story on there.
