The quidditch game and the video doesn't seem to far, it's just fans being imaginative (something that seems to be heading for the endangered species list)and having a great time.
The scientist thing doesn't seem to extreme either since a lot of the technology we take for granted today was made by scientists that decided to make what they saw on star trek and star wars a reality, so it's kind of exciting to think we might be sitting here ten years down the road saying remember when *insert blank* was just a fantastical idea in Rowling's head.
While it would be fun to take the Harry Potter tour and see the different areas/things J.K. got her inspiration from, the leaving tokens on 'Voldemort's grave' thing takes obsessed fan to a new level of creepy and I fear for their sanity.
