So, what is your favorite type of music? What genre do you prefer to ear when you want a break from the monotonous silence that follows you around? I myself am a fan of a large amount of music genre's but my favorite would have to go to Alternative/Indie music since there has always been a wide range of different sounds to the genre. I also enjoy some Metal here or there when I am in the mood for some loud and heavy chaos. I absolutely dispise most Rap/Hip-Hop and Country music since they all sound bland or generic.

Alternative, Classic Rock and Heavy Metal are my favorite genres, but I'm fond of Pop, Rap and Electronica too.

Metal, Industrial, Gothic, Steampunk, Rock... generally the darker side of music. Almost all genres have that tone...

Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, and Rammstein tp name a few favorites. I have never listened to Steampunk music but have heard about it from word of mouth. Guess I need to take a sec and give a few tunes a spins.

I love instrumental music like Two Steps From Hell. I'm a fan of many genres, but rock, alternative, and instrumental seem to trump them all.

I listen to practically everything. But I do enjoy listening to movie/anime/asiandrama soundtracks, classical music and chart music the most.

It would be nice if you could choose more than one.
I listen to Alternative, Indie, Classic Rock, Pop, Rap (only Eminem), Classical, Soundtracks, Japanese/Anime, Random youtube songs (Isengard, Why is the Rum Gone?).
What would Pendulum fall under? Because I listen to them too.

I mostly have Rock and Steampunk songs on my mp3-player. My pop-quota is filled by my local radio station. And my mother says I have an unhealthy fondness for Elvis (for someone my age).
Due to rpg game mastering I listen to an incredibly wide variety of music: techno, disco, folk (of all kind of areas), instrumental, classic, swing, jazz, metal... You name a genre, there's a good chance that I've probably at least one song of it.

I have the unhealthy fondness for Robbie Williams. I think his Swing album was brilliant. I completely ignore Rudebox and that other one he did recently (I love it so much I forgot the name...)
I even regularly listen to Cotton Eye Joe by Rednex. and I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred (and imagine Snape singing it. Damn that ridiculous video).

Oh I didn't mean it was unhealthy, only RW. It was supposed to follow on a bit from my first post lol. there is nothing wrong with Cotton Eye Joe. I grew up with that song at parties and getting lost among all the adults on the dance floor.

Heavy rock and screamo, mostly. Mainly bands like A Day To Remember, Parkway Drive, Counterparts, Comeback Kid, Escape The Fate, Close Your Eyes, etc.

I listen to anything but Country (and most modern pop) but my favorite would probably be R&B and 90's/early 00's rap.

I think my faves at the moment are Ed Sheeran, My Chemical Romance, Mumford and Sons, Green Day, Muse (old stuff mostly) and Biffy Clyro. and anything written by Hans Zimmer. OH and the song Sabre Dance but only the Vanessa Mae version.

I'll listen to nearly everything, though I only barely tolerate rap at times and I'm not *that* fond of Country either. I think the only band I'll actually go out of my way to avoid is the Beastie Boys. I don't really know why, but I just don't really like them. I'm gonna throw my vote in with Classic/Instrumental since I'm a band nerd, though.

I'm more of a 60's, 70's and 80's fan. I love Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Don Henley, Elton John, and Billy Joel.
I also like a few contemporary artists. I can't stand rap or hip-hop. I go to college in the country so I have a new appreciation for country music though.

Forgot to add Jessie J to my list. I like musicals too. The best has to be Sweeney Todd. The music from that film is just amazing. If you ever want to know what Snape singing would sound like then watch that film, though I hate Alan Rickman's character in it, same as Timothy Spall's (Wormtail). Helena Bonham Carter is epicas always and totally insane.

I do enjoy listening to classic rock every now and then. It just get's to the point where I hate the classic rock stations because they play the same songs over and over. Right now though I'm in a bit of a prog rock phase with bands like Pink Floyd, Rush, King Crimson, and Yes.

*high fives back*
Really, Country music is great. Yeah, some of it is 'lost my girl, lost my truck, lost my dog' stuff, but the rest of it tends to carry some great messages.
More importantly for me, it is almost entirely devoid of the heavy, thumping bassline that characterises most of the more popular music styles. I have a hearing condition that makes that heavy bass thumping *exceedingly* painful, even when the volume of said music is fairly low. When cars play 'thumper' music, from whatever genre, I can FEEL them from like, a block away, and end up cringing every time. Closer than that, and ... yeah, it gets worse from there.

Do you like Celtic? It doesn't have the bassline either.

I've never really tried Celtic ... it's not a common music style in the States. Actually, I have no idea where I'd even get samples of it.

not a common music style? it's everywhere! try listening to Celtic Woman or Celtic Thunder, they are my favorite. There is also Anuna, Enya, and a bunch of intrumental Celtic (it is really neat to listen to). You will hear a familiar sound because Celtic was the start of Country and Bluegrass.
There is a bunch of videos on Youtube, go check them out. just look up Celtic Woman or those others I listed.

*laughs* It might be everywhere in more populous and ... urban (for lack of a better word) places but I live in a relatively low-population area that does NOT have much in the way of cultural /anything/. The bravest we get in these parts is Chinese food and a Mexican grocery store (meaning a tiny little place that stocks specialty Mexican/Spanish items). Whenever I go into the music store, there's Rock, Pop, and Country ... and that's it, with maybe a few CD's by bands/singers in other genres if it's a particularly big store.
That said, I will go check it out, 'cause anything that doesn't hurt the ears is good.

We have about 5 mexican food places and two of those grocery stores hidden away in town. The closes thing to a music store is a Wal-Mart and two pawn shops.
