Saw the anime and manga thread, and needed to start this one.
So who here is a fan of comics? Like Batman, and Superman, and Watchmen and V for Vendetta, The Sandman, and all those goodies?
I've been getting majorly into comics recently, both DC and Marvel.
I think the best way to get this thread going is are you a DC fan or Marvel fan?
Personally I love both, but I prefer DC.
DC's a bit darker and more adult than Marvel. I find a lot of parallels though with both DC and Marvel, (like Ironman being a super-modern Batman with crappy villains)
Though Marvel's movies tend to be a thousand times better than DC (But the new batman defies that)
I think it stems from DC's character's being more complicated than Marvel's. They have a lot more meaning behind them.

I prefer the Transformers comics from Dreamwave... I don't read much of either DC or Marvel, honestly. Bone, Calamity Jack and other lesser known stuff seemed to be right up my alley...
Unless, of course, we're talking about webcomics.
So... neither! XD

I haven't read a ton of actual comic books, but I found some of the original (1960s) X-Men and Avengers comics for free download. I've enjoyed reading them so far. I have seen the majority of superego movies though, so I at least have a decent grasp on the Mai storylines.

It's funny, because I actually just finished boxing up all my Superman comics so I can sell them about five minutes ago.
I agree that Marvel makes better movies (with the noted exception). But I always thought that DC made much better cartoons. They had the whole of the DCAU (including Static Shock), Teen Titans, and now Young Justice. The only Marvel cartoons I liked were the Spider-Man and X-Men ones from the 90's.

I love X-me! Though I always had a fear of professor xavier, anyman who can mind control is freaky to me.
Old superman comics? What's the asking price? And which ones?

I only read Star Wars comics. The Legacy and Knights of the Old Republic series were fantastic.

I'm a big Batman fan right now but I started reading comics when I saw an issue of Spawn. I still remeber being 8 years old and reading my first Spawn comic and being in awe of the artwork. It also helped that their was a bunch demons and such trying to take over the world and the main character was an anti-hero. I am also a fan of Hellblazer, Sandman, Walking Dead, Bone, Fables, From Hell, V is for Vendetta, and the old school Eerie comics.

I'm definitely a DC girl at heart! My favorites are: Batman, Nightwing (yes, the original Robin), Superman, X-Men, The New Teen Titans and Doom Patrol.

Yeah, other than X-Men and Deadpool I am a DC comics fan at heart. Marvel just seems to be geared way to much for kids and teens nowadays. You have to stick with the original's, you know?

Old superman comics? What's the asking price? And which ones? I don't really know. I basically want to dump them, so I'd take them to a comic book store. I don't have the time to sell individual issues on ebay or anything. But I am going to go through them first research online to see if I have anything worth real money (though I doubt I do). I basically have every Superman thing published in 1999, and the rest of what I have is also mostly from the 80's and 90's, and I don't think that age is worth a whole lot. I have a little less than a long box worth.

The batman and Joker's relationship has always intrigued me. i read the Killing Joke again just last weekend, it's so, amazing how such a twisted guy like the Joker and the Batman have this complex relationship. They just don't make superhero supervillian pairings like that in Marvel. Even Luthor, Braniac and Superman have a reallt intense villian/hero relationship.
I like X-men a lot, but overall, I lean DC.
Just started the sandman, rereading watchmen.

It's a link to the X-men ones, but if you search around there and on depositfiles, you should be able to find most of the comics you want. downmagaz.ws/comics_magazine/3164-uncanny-x-men-1-93.htmlI did the deposit files link. You do have to make an account, but it's really quick and free. The download does take awhile though. Also, it downloads as an rar file, so you'll have to get an expander. I got Stuffit Expander for free from the Mac store. Hope this helps and happy reading.

Sweet, I'll definitely use those. I've been using the public library, and though it's great, they tend to have fewer issues and the librarian near my house is a pretty annoying old lady who thinks anything newer than the fifties isn't worth reading...unless its a 'classic'

I just finished reading the Batman: Hush collection and the Batman: Arkham Asylum 15th anniversary edition. I wished they would have used Hus in the new Batman movie. He just seems to be twisted enough to rival Joker in the Nolanverse Batman.

I just finished V for Vendetta. It was so chilling and great. His madness and the way he tortured her... I still am shuddering from his treatment of, well, everyone. The Vicious Cabaret song was replaying on youtube for an hour. It's not my favorite comic, but it's definitely made it's way into the top fifteenish.
As for the new Batman, I really wish they'd picked someone else to play Cat Woman, Anne Hathaway doesn't seem like Cat Woman material to me.

Anne Hathaway does not have what it takes to play Silena Kyle/Catwoman. It doesn't help that her outfit looks like a cat suit you could buy at Wal-Mart. Oh, and would would think they would pick someone taller to play Bane. The actor they have playing him is almost a head shorter then Bale.

I don't read comics but I love the films for them and I love V For Vendetta so I'm kinda hoping it stuck to the comic pretty well.

I haven't seen the film, but from what I've heard, the comic was better. They changed the themes a lot though, and a few little differences everywhere else. Evey's character is very different in the movie and the novel however. Both are great however, and both are probably iconic (I say probably because I have yet to see the film) . The comic is pretty long however, and has a ton of secondary characters that would be impossible to keep track of in the movie.
As for Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Cat woman, her costume looks terrible, I have to agree. But the moment I heard she was Cat Woman, I had a little rant about how that was a terrible choice. Anne Hathaway is a great actress, but I don't think she can pull of cat woman.
As for the choice of Bane, I'm kind of meh with the entire thing. He's small, I'll say, but he's also not big enough. Bane's this giant muscular guy, and the guy they've cast is pretty small. At least make him look bigger and hulk-ish. I'll definitely watch the movie, but I don't know if I'll enjoy it as much as the last one. Heath Ledger did a superb job at the Joker, it's such a pity he died, I'd have loved to see him do a sequel.

I hadn't really seen the first film properly but when the trailer for Dark Knight came out I felt like I had to watch it... and instantly fell in love with the Joker. I was so upset when I found out he'd died. I personally loved the V For Vendetta film. I don't know how many tims I've seen it but it's a lot and I tell my friends off when they tell me they still haven't seen it.

Heath Ledger was really the only guy to really get the Joker. I mean, if you've seen the old movies, all of them are really cheesy and don't tend to touch on the darker side of all the villians or of Batman himself. The way Heath got the Joker, it was the perfect balance of insanity with a purpose.
I plan to see V next weekend actually. I totally think you should check the comic out if your such a fan, it definitely made me a fan, and the way it's done, I still shudder at the way it was done.

Looks like I'm going to saving up money for the second week of November. Just found out that Vertigo is releasing a slipcase set of all ten Sandman volumes. From the picture on the site it looks to be a very slick production of the series. Here is a link for anyone interested: www.amazon.com/Sandman-Slipcase-Set-Neil-Gaiman/dp/1401238637/ref=sr_1_9?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1339984898&sr=1-9The price maybe a bit steep for but buying each volume seperately would cost about the same. At least with the slipcase you wouldn't have that hard of a time losing them. It is also better then buying the Absolute Sandman collections. Those puppies cost anywhere from $60.00 to $78.00 a piece.

Have to say I'm not all that much of a fan of Christian Bale though.

Christian Bale does a good job for Batman, if you ever watch the old movies, and see the cheesiness, you'll get it, trust me.
