I know Forging Destiny and love it so far. Sadly, the initially frequent updates have gone down to every few months. Not sure the author is going to finish it, at that rate. But I enjoyed it. The other one, I think I have at least started it, but then lost track somehow.

If Harry was my child then I really wouldn't have let Sirius be the Godfather. We all know that he's easy to rile up etc so shouldn't Lily have stepped in and made Remus Godfather? Sure he's a werewolf but they could have gone the muggle route and hidden the papers in the vaults. That way Harry would have had someone more responsible. Sirius is responsible when it comes to Harry. I think they made a perfect choice in godfather. Remus wouldn't have been able to be godfather with the way the Ministry is. Do you really think they would let someone they deem dangerous take Harry? Remus wouldn't been too cut up in grief to be able to take care of him. I mean Remus had all the time in the world, and never contacted Harry. Not when he left Hogwarts after third year, not even after Sirius died. I mean Remus didn't even tell Harry he was best friends with his dad! Lily trusted Sirius enough with her son, and his life. Sirius becomes a different person when Harry was around. I mean he scolded, and protected him on the run! Remus did nothing, and will never do anything! Sirius was the all time better person for the job. I imagine he was around baby Harry all the time, and Remus was hardly around. I think Wormtail wouldn't have been able to hold Harry without him crying.

True about Remus. He seems to use the 'they wouldn't want me anyway because of my furry little problem' excuse to skip responsibilities.

Really ... the only thing Sirius ever does that's irresponsible is heckle Severus.
Yeah, he screwed the pooch when James and Lily were killed, but I SO don't blame him. I sincerely doubt he was anywhere NEAR thinking straight. His best friend and his best friend's wife had been killed, he discovered that someone he'd thought of as a friend was, indeed, the ultimate traitor ... yeah, SO don't blame him.
On the other hand, Sirius ... this is the man that broke out of jail to protect his godson, who was willing to live in a cave and eat RATS to be near him and try to protect him. He fought Dumbledore's edict about not telling Harry anything, and stood up for Harry repeatedly when NO ONE ELSE did. He was more than willing to fight and die for said godson.
As I've said elsewhere, and in a fic of mine ... Sirius is *insanely* loyal. If it hadn't taken epic-size cojones to buck the Black Family tradition etc, Sirius would have been a shoo-in for Hufflepuff. The only thing he truly gave a damn about was Harry ... everything else could go spit. James and Lily made absolutely the right call naming him godfather ... they just couldn't have predicted how things were going to fall out when they bit it.

The whole thing with the twins....how do we know they didn't talk to her and Arthur? Like I said before on some other threads, there a lot of time gaps and also these books are in Harry's POV and I don't think he would go around following everyone in the family to see what they are up to. For all we know they could have talked to Molly and Arthur about their plans and Molly could have still given her no.

Molly is really such a freaking dream-smasher!

Very well said, Sherza! You summed my feelings about him up perfectly. That was one of the reasons why I loved Sirius - and why my opinion of Molly went downhill after she was so nasty to him in OotP.
As for Hufflepuff, yes, that was what I already thought. His loyalty was more Hufflepuff, but seeing how he fought his family all these years, his bravery outweighed it, obviously. For I don't believe Walburga and Orion would have taken that rebellion lying down ... or Bellatrix, for that matter.
Molly, however, would have tried her utmost to turn Harry into a little Percy, like she did with Ron and the twins. No doubt who was the better parent.

For all we know they could have talked to Molly and Arthur about their plans and Molly could have still given her no. Very possible. She was set against that career from the word go - for her, the only son who did the right thing was her adored Perfect Prefect Percy. She was too naive to realise what being at the Ministry really meant, and wilfully closed her eyes from the fact that a Ministry job would be the worst choice for the twins. It has not to fit them, but her own need to suck up to the mighty and powerful to advance her family.

I don't think anyone has brought this particular point up before but one thing i hate about Molly is that she is constantly praising Harry and telling Harry how great and how brave he is and yet despite doing many many brave things as well (much more brave than anything his brothers have done) Molly never praises Ron for being brave and she never even implies that she is proud of him. Even in the prefects badge scene Molly could not hide her surprise that Ron got the prefects badge and Harry didn't.
Honestly i am not surprised that one of Ron's insecurities (we found out from the locket) that Ron secretly thought his own mother prefered Harry and would have much rathered have Harry as a son than himself. A thought like that would eat Ron up so it isn't surprising that Ron had such poor self esteem.

I never liked that point about her either. What mother praises her kid's best friend, but never praises him? No wonder Ron is always jealous of Harry.

If you want my opinion on Molly, just read my story lol. She really does bug me, and I think I touched briefly on it in another topic. I could write an essay on the amount of times she's been a huge bitch to people for no reason, but I really don't feel like typing it out.

LOL - couldn't agree more. What do you think why I started this thread in the first place? Of course, you could just add to the first post I'll never understand why so many insist she's the best mother ever to grace earth. Oh well, we all have our favourites - and the opposite

Here is a interesting question?
What do you all think Molly's opinion of Hermione is?
On the one hand Molly is seen laughing with Hermione briefly in 3rd year but then i remember what happened in 4th year where at the start of the book Molly mentions in a rant that Rita Skeeter twists the truth and prints lies (when she was writing about Arthur) but 6 months later when Rita wrote about Hermione supposedly two timing Harry with Krum Molly seemed to instantly believe it despite her knowing that Skeeter is a liar. I just can't help but think that Molly was just looking for a excuse not to like Hermione.
Also despite what a lot of fan fiction says i don't think Molly had any clue about Ron's feelings for Hermione. I don't think she knew much about what was going on inside Ron's head and it would not surprise me if Molly thought that Harry and Hermione were going to end up together.

Not sure what to think about it.
That reaction to Skeeter's article makes even less sense as she knew Hermione at least a little bit herself and should have known even better. But Molly strikes me as someone who is pretty naive and easily misled.
And no, she didn't know anything at all about her youngest son, or she'd have treated him differently. IMO most of Ron's insecurities could be laid on Molly's doorstep. If she were more aware of her youngest son's character, she'd stop putting him down and telling him what a great son particularly Perfect Prefect Pery was (can I nickname the prat PPP? Less bother to type).
Actually, I sometimes thought Molly would like Hermioe because she nagged her son into studying and even would have liked her as daughter-in-law, because she thought Hermione would get a good job and income. But we see so little interaction between them that it is hard to say. I only remember Hermione agreeing with Molly about her accusations against Sirius, but not much more.
Yeah, to me that always seemed the more likely couple than Hermione/Ron with their constant fighting. But Molly had to know that her daughter wanted the BWL. So, maybe she wanted to drive Hermione off of Harry, so Ginny had a chance? I could see many different scenarios, but not say which one is the most likely.

Well we know that Harry and Hermione never ever had romantic feelings for one another. I just think it is a example of Molly having no ability to read her son. It would not surprise me if it never occured to Molly that her son has feelings for Hermione. Molly was also more attentive to Harry than she was as well (not that this is a particularly good thing).

Honestly? I always thought of Molly as a woman who thought that a "proper" wife needed to stay home to watch the children. She never striked me as someone who would appreciate a daughter-in-law who earned more money than her son.

That could be, too ... maybe I did read too many fics where it was Hermione who had to earn their living because Ron was too lazy. Ok, let me rephrase it - she liked that Hermione nagged him into studying, because better marks would get Ron the mummy-desired job in the Ministry.

I doubt Molly would like Ron's career as a Auror as i suspect she will think (and will constantly tell Ron) that the job is to dangerous. I also agree that Molly would probably not approve of Hermione going back to her job a few months after having Rose or Hugo as in Molly's mind Hermione should become a stay at home mother (which is something that neither Ron or Hermione would want).

Was not thinking about being an Auror, rather another assistant to the Minister, like her perfect Percy. If Molly had anything to say, all her sons would be having some desk job at the Ministry to be respectable and safe.
Oh yes, that's true. And then she'd probably insist on raising the child anyway because she knows what's best for them, and force her views on the baby as well. Frankly, I'd not want her as a mother-in-law - save she lives faaaar away.

I imagine Rose and Hugo would spend quite a bit of time in the muggle world as i imagine them going to a muggle primary school (as both their parents work so a primary school is logical as neither Ron or Hermione have the time to home school them) and for some reason i imagine Molly would object to the idea of her grand children going to a muggle primary school.

Arthur would be fascinated, and Molly ... yeah, I think you are right. She always gave me the impression that she treated Arthur a bit ... condescendingly for his interest in muggles, or at least thought it childish. Or maybe I am just reading too much FF ... In any case, she'd probably insist that they are too young to go to school.

Molly was always very condescending of Arthurs enjoyment of all things muggle and i did get the impression that while she did not hate muggles like a pureblood fantatic she did somewhat look down her nose at muggles thinking they were somehow inferior than magical people.

Good, then I'm not the only one who felt that way.
You know, it would be interesting to take Arthur and Molly to the Muggle world and let them experience stuff like planes, electric light, computers, or show them stuff like about space travel. And teach them about muggle weapons. I doubt wizards have any concept of weapons of mass destruction - they wouldn't be able to fathom how one bomb can destroy a whole city. And magic would be useless against it!

See, I think Molly was irritated tat Arthur had a lot of potential but wasted it dabblingg with muggle stuff in that tiny department.
As for her wanting Harry and Ginny together, I think that's just a fanon thing because throughout the series she never pushes Harry towards Ginny in anyway. She's content to let them do what they like. I'm not denying that she wanted the best for Ginny, but she never indicated that it had to be Harry per se.
Again, on the topic of her and Hermione, I think she only knew of Hermione the little bit she saw her in POA and at the beginning of GOF. I doubt Ron spoke much of his friend to his mother. Before this, Skeeter was considered reliable news, by the entire wizarding world, and just because at the beginning Skeeter's one article made Arthur look bad, doesn't mean that she isn't still considered reliable news. You've got to remember, until GOF, Molly's been as sheltered as well, Ginny is until she goes to Hogwarts, so Molly's understanding of things is limited to what she sees in the news, even if its not reliable. That's why she probably believed Skeeter because thats what her reliable news source has been the last fourteen years
After GOF, her entire world starts to crumble, and coincidentally, her character to most goes to pieces, which correlates to her having to enter a war, try to save her babies, and for the first time in her entire life, realise that her perfectky safe world isn't safe anymore. She is what circumstances made her, and I can't hate her for that.
