Was never sure if it was Arthur not wanting to leave that department, or Fudge and his predecessor keeping him back because he was too interested in muggles and not properly prejudiced. Besides, if his own wife doesn't take his work seriously, why should the rest of the Ministry?
Well, you are probably right about Molly and Skeeter ... sadly, I can't even say she should have noticed the lurid style of her writing, as I know how many people here lap everything up some so-called newspapers print. (A friend of mine once said they can't be called a paper, because that name only applies when the content of truth is above 10%).

I think it was a mix of both. He never seemed to determined to leave, and I get the feeling his department never got any recognition because of prejudices. And to be fair, not one person took Arthur's work seriously. Not his kids, not his kids friends, not his wife, not the ministry, no one. And Arthur didn't help matters by taking home things and tinkering with them. I always wondered why Arthur never opened up a shop selling his muggle things to people or altering muggle inventions for muggles, you know? The ministry hardly cared about his department anyways, if he had used the lack of laws on muggle items to his advantage, I think he could have made quite a bit of money.
And I know the feeling when people just lap up false news. It's so hard then trying to hold a conversation when you want to strangle the person in front of you.

That was what I always thought - if he did work together with some muggleborn or halfblood who knew the appliances and could help him to decide what would be good to adapt for the magical world, that could be such a success. Walkmans (and what came later to replace them) for instance, TV running on magic, computers ... there were so many things that could work. Someone who knew what to chose and someone good at charms or runes or however they can be made to work despite the magic around could have such a success!
Oh yes. The granddaughter of my mum's neighbour is one of these. But then, her intellectual horizon is already highly strained by reading this yellow press rubbish. She'd not get the concept that there could be more to a concept than what they get into their headline.

It really makes you wonder. i mean, we know he's capable, look at the car, but he never encouraged it. My cousin is one of those too. One minute she'll be telling me how great something like Obamacare is, the next she thinks Mitt Rimney is the perfect man to run America... On the bright side, she stopped looking into political news on a daily routine after her course in politics ended. Now she regales me with tales about the Kardashians

Ýeah. Something that should be included in more fics! The few I know have Harry and Sirius adapt muggle appliances for their own use, mostly.
After looking up the Kardashians: Oh well. At least that's probably something she understands better. May I offer my condolences anyway?

That's something I akways want to throw in, but my current fics can't. Since I'm doing a challenge featuring the Weasley's I plan to throw it in.
I take your condolences and then use them as offerings to whatever deity cares as I pray for humaity. The fact that those chicks make millions of dollars for discussing their thong sizes truly disgusts me.

Yeah, more something for after the war, I guess.
Ugh, they talk about *that*?? *gets all green in the face* You just reminded me once again why I barely ever watch TV ...

Actually, I plan to do it before the war, it's a redo fic. The reasoning being that after the war, muggle protection laws would go up and it would be harder for Arthur to enchant objects without crossing the law.
I really want to tell you that's an exaggeration, but considering they discussed their sex lives in detail with their mother for like fifteen minutes on the show the first time I ever saw it...
Shall I continue to scar you about TV? Take a few minutes and google Jersey Shore. That's all I will say.

Oh, ok, though I could see Harry and some others push for the possibility to have normal electronics powered by magic - additionally to the normal way, so they can't harm anyone if they get accidentally into muggle hands.
*bangs head* God, what people do to get some attention! Maybe we should send Fudge to watch, so he gets the difference to Harry!
No, no, please not! I'm already scared for life!

It's got a few kinks, but it's a problem a muggle-loving Arthur would find loopholes and precautions to worm his way around and possible dangers to the muggles.
Fudge would be too busy trying to figure out what a television is and how it works because the idiot can barely understand anything about muggles to begin with.
Did you search it up? Trust me, the minute you do, the Kardashians will seem tame.

Of course he would work it out.
Hm, you have a point. Plus, I think the wizarding world is rather prudish, so - imagine his face!
Ugh, only had a short look, and that seems more than I care for already!

He'd be terrified because without someone telling him what to think he'd have no idea what to do about it. He's a sheep. The biggest sheep of the all.
The premise of Jersey Shore is a bunch of idiots go around, have sex, party, get drunk, have more sex, and then talk about their life problems and teenagers and children watch these shows.

LOL - well put! That's why he needed Malfoy. You know, I wonder how things would have gone after GoF if he hadn't been listening to Death Eaters all the time.
I'll NEVER understand what the appeal of that sort of show is. I'd rather curl up with a good book or talk to friends online.

And Dumbledore in the beginning, remember? He'd have lost all idea of control, turned to Dumbledore or a third neutral party and become a voice piece for two warring parties.
I've never even seen the show, but I've heard of it on South Park and looked it up thinking it must be pretty popular/bad. I'm still baffled as to why they're making 50k and more a year for this. It's like advanced prostitution!
I completely agree, books, movies, online friends, and when the occasion calls, a bit of interaction with real people.

That, too, yes. No wonder that idiot got an Order of Merlin just for being elected Minister - must have been his biggest achievement, seeing that he has about one brain cell to his name.
Sounds like that, yes. I'd not spend a cent on that sort of stuff, but when I look at what shows we have here ... it's annoying enough to see the headlines in the media every morning on the way to work. Have we nothing more important to report than stupid casting shows and the like?
Of course, when I am not with family or friends, I meant. Sadly, most live too far away to meet frequently. Modern communication technology has really made keeping in touch so much easier.

I like Molly Weasley, but only if she realises that what she's doing is way overboard. Someone needs to convince her that she isn't the poster-woman for motherhood. Yes she has seven children of her own, plus seems to think of Harry and Hermione as hers as well, but that doesn't give her the right to tell them what colour to wear or how long or short to have their hair. She has her heart in the right place, but she can't seem to realise that they aren't children, and I get the impression that she would try and stop them talking about sex around Harry, because she seems to think he is an innocent child, even when he has proven that he is extremely mature for his age, just like Hermione. Molly clearly doesn't realise that the trio have lost most of their innocence during their years at school, having to fight Voldemort and Death Eaters at pretty much every turn.

In some ways Harry is mature for his age but in other ways Harry is very immature for his age as well.

True, but a good deal of that can be laid at the Dursley's doorstep. He didn't learn some things others would learn from their parents because a) he himself was treated like dirt and b) he couldn't even learn anything by listening in on Dudley, because the baby whale was so babied and spoiled he missed out on too many lessons, too. Harry never had an adult to go to with questions and problems, and that I see as the main reason for his immaturity in certain areas.

The premise of Jersey Shore is a bunch of idiots go around, have sex, party, get drunk, have more sex, and then talk about their life problems and teenagers and children watch these shows. Britain has it's own version of this (unfortunately) that's called Geordie Shore. I've never bothered to watch it but I know people who do. We also have TOWIE (The Only Way Is Essex) that's been out for a few years now. I've only ever seen 10 minutes of it and I could feel my brain screaming in pain from the sheer stupidity of those people. It's no wonder people can't even spell properly when there are programmes like that around. Dear God they need to be gotten rid of.

On the point of Arthur not advancing in the Ministy, I'm pretty sure it said in one of the books (not sure which, but it might have been the Chamber of Secrets) that he was offered promotions and higher, better paid positions in other departments, but he turned them down because he loved what he was doing too much.
Sorry, I know the conversation's kinda moved on now but I just got here...

Molly has her good points and too many bad points for me.
Good points:
1. She is a good dueler when her children is threatened.
2. good cook, and housekeeper.
3. loves her children.
Bad Points:
1. BELIEVES what Rita Skeeter writes, and had a crush on that jerk Lockfart.
2. spoils first three sons and her daughter TOO much. F&G she treats like stepchildren more than her own sons much of the time.
3. Worships Dumbledore to blindly, She even ignores signs of neglect because Dumbledore tells her too.

Constantly compares Fred, George, and Ron to Percy, holding Percy up as the epitome of perfection. 5. Insanely controlling, to the point of demanding Bill keep his appearance to *her* standards, despite him being mid-twenties and on his own at the time. Demands her children get only the jobs she approves of, and in the later books, despite Ron being of age and Hermione being of age and not even her child, and Harry not being her child, tries to stop them from going on the mission DUMBLEDORE set for them (that would have been SUCH a disaster, if she had succeeded!)

I agree, and I also think that she can't see any of the younger generation as anything other than children. I know Harry, Hermione, Ron & Ginny aren't legally adults, but the way she tried to get the twins to leave the room when Harry was going to start asking what was going on during his first night at Grimmauld Place, shows me that even though they are both seventeen, and therfore legally adults, she still thinks of them as innocent little children that need to be protected from the world.

I mean, holy hell Harry, Ron, and Hermione Troll Traps Basilisk Dementor (once for all three together) Werewolf Ministry SNAFU Harry and Ron Aragog Harry Voldemort (in some guise) 3 times Triwizard Tournament Ginny Voldemort possession Ministry SNAFU And that's just the stuff I can think of offhand. These four kids? Do not exactly need to be sheltered from the harsh realities of life. They done already figured out that life's a bitch.

Yes, yes she did.
And then Harry is all of a sudden Mr. Jealous when Ginny has a boyfriend.
Man, did my 'it's a setup!' alarm go off when that happened! JKR had *really* bad timing, having Molly talk about that at that point. I'm fairly sure that fully half her readership that had paranoid minds went 'ACK!' pretty much instantly.
Not to mention, it's a shitty thing to do. Makes me feel sorry for Arthur ... and wonder, just a bit, if Molly ever actually stopped dosing the poor bastard.

I believe it was sorta okay for her to denie Ron and Ginny cause they are her kids and technically not of age. The twins I can sorta see her reasons.(to her they think life is a joke) Hermione and Harry she had no right. In the books I hardly read about her having talks with Harry unlike with Sirius which simply blew my mind when she announced she was all he had and the rest of the bullcrap. Hermione she saw even less of and had parents of her own.
To the Jersey Shore my friends watch that scumlike tv show and I still dont understand. I tried watching it to see what was up and felt disgust when that girl smookie, snookie, ect. threw a tantrum about some guys getting back at her for some prank. Not five minutes after she went into her life as a wannabe hooker and i seriously felt some throw up. Major reason why the only thing I watch are movies, criminal shows, or stuff teen would have been watching ten years ago if the show existed.

Hermione she saw even less of and had parents of her own. Exactly. She ignored all signs of abuse (the twins told her about Harry being starved, she complained about him too thin, but still, she dismissed her sons!) and listened to Dumbledore that he was sooo safe there, even when she must have noticed that Harry wasn't treated well. Sirius, however, offered Harry a new home straight away, even before he knew anything about his home situation. Any questions who really cared more? Besides, Sirius treats Harry according to his age, Molly treats him like a baby.
