What if Tom took the chance at redemption Harry offered him? How would the world react? Could possibly be allowed to live after all he'd done?

He'd still have been thrown through the veil, I suspect, but his soul itself would have been salvageable. I can't see anyone allowing him to life, even if he showed remorse. He's done too much, and no one would really believe he means it. (Save canon Harry, maybe, who was too brainwashed by Dumbledore)

On the off chance of making myself reeeaaaaaly unpopular: This is actually something I can admire in Voldemort. Let's be honest here, there isn't much worth admiring in the guy, because most of the time he's a ridiculously unprofessional Dark Lord (TM). But he is tenacious. And that's a part of his character I've gotta respect. The guy just doesn't give up - even in the end, when he must have realised that things were not simply going according to plan. If you have gone as far as he had - than, heck, you have to go the rest, too. Only ninnies turn back.
