Blackroses: Then what if at the same time, Harry was Bi? (Again, I'm pretty sure he is but for the sake of being devil's advocate, let's say he's not). Would they then kick him out, despite the fact that they're accepting their son who's the 'same'?
Or would both boys find themselves on the street before the age of majority...or just Harry?

Or maybe they could try to "live with" the fact that Dudley is gay, while making it Harry's fault. Instead of punishing Dudley for being "cursed by the freak" they punish the "freak who caused it" instead. Meanwhile, I assert that they'd try to have him "cleansed" somehow.

Probably just Harry they'd try to get Dudley in a nice mental facility

Black rose: I just can't see Harry joining in on those conversations Peer pressure would motivate him to join in. Harry and Neville even if not contributing much to the conversations would definitely be listening.

But Harry would probably feel guilty and, as doing with his 'saving people' thing, try to get Dudley out of the 'treatments'.
Ooh! What if Dudley realized he was Gay after the Dementor attacks in OOTP? Then realized near the end of HBP that his cousin was at least Bi so that's why he left the tea outside Harry's door in the second Chapter of DH? To try to talk to him? And that's why he told Harry he didn't think he was a waste of space in the third chapter?

I forget that other people are susceptible to peer opinion I never was and hated all the more for their lack of influence

I think Harry is Bi as well, but like Kuma In Pink said I think they would try to accept Dudley and make the best of the situation but blame Harry and consider the fact he is Bi to be more of his freakishness. Completely illogical but it's the Dursleys.

That would be pretty neat, Ginny.
Oh, damn it! Now I have a plotbunny...
Fanfic idea:
What if the Dementor attack made Dudley realize that his parents might not love him the same if he were somehow "abnormal". He might have known he was gay for a while now, but decided to ignore it because he's been taught that different is bad. Well, the next year in school, Dudley comes to slowly realize just how messed up and wrong that line of thought is. This would also mean that he'd realize his parents are child abusers, and the cousin he always hated didn't deserve the treatment he got.

Embrace that plot bunny Kuma! Hmm...if you went this route though, would Harry and Dudley ever have a little chat before Harry went on his treasure hunt of souls?

Okay, I am embracing it! *grins* And yeah, embracing this route does mean that Harry and Dudley would have a little chat before or after that"treasure hunt of souls", as you so put it. I'm leaning more toward after, because I want Dudley to learn more about Harry and the magical world first. Eventually, Dudley would come to realize that he was also robbed of a childhood, and try to reconnect with Harry.

SQUEE! *hugs Kuma* Why? I don't know, but when someone has a good story idea I get really hyper.
I wanted to call it "Harry's Suicidal Year Long Camp Out" but my brain didn't agree with that.

Hahaha no, not calling it that. I'm writing it as I speak, though it means my writing for HU is now further behind...
It's called "Different Shades" because abuse comes in many different shades, not just the ones we're most familiar with.

Not yet, but I'll tell you about it.
Basically, it's a "Dursleys stay with the Order" story to start out with, but instead of just them, I have all of Privet Drive there as well. This includes Dudley's friends. In this fic, Dudley starts to learn more about the magical world and becomes further detached from his old life. Each chapter will start out with a few lines written in Dudley's diary, and show a sort of closer community that is formed while the neighbors stay together.
This will mean better looks at the neighbors as a whole, including Petuina and Vernon's friends, an old teacher of Harry and Dudley's, and so on.
