Just out of curiosity who is everyone's favourite Marauder (I think we all have a favourite... or that could just be me...). And why? Personally mine is Sirius as you could probably guess by my username (: I love how caring he is to his friends. He would rather die than betray them, rather die than see anything happen to them. I don't know about anyone else, but there's not many people out there who would do that for their friends. He also lives off rats to be closer to Harry during GoF. He cares about Harry a lot, even if he doesn't always show it to him. One of the first things he did after he escaped Azkaban was head to Privet Drive to catch a glimpse of Harry. Then there's my favourite scene in the entire series, the one where Sirius comforts Harry after Mr. Weasley's attack (though I prefer the movie version to the book one; the film scene has more... love, I guess you could say, more heart... idk). So yeah, that's why he's my favourite. I wonder how many Peter Pettigrew will get  |

I'm tied between Remus and Sirius. Both of them are in my top five all-time characters in HP, and I still don't know which one I like better. I think I like Sirius a bit more though as he takes a more direct role with Harry.

I'm torn between Sirius and James. I love how Sirius lived off of rats in a cave to support Harry during the Triwizard Tournament. I hated how Molly kept yelling at Sirius during OOP.
I also like James. Sure, he was arrogant and a bully. But he was honorable enough to die for his family. He knew he didn't have a wand when Voldemort stormed in, but he died anyway. I hated how no one talked about James' sacrifice. It was all, "Your mother died to save you." But James also died for Harry. I know Lily's sacrifice protected Harry, but James also sacrificed himself. That always annoyed me about the series.

Dracosfairmaiden - I completely agree there about James's sacrifice. I always hated that too. He could have taken Lily and Harry and tried to run for it, but he didn't. He put himself out there and tried to take on Voldemort all by himself to give them time to run for it, even if it was unsuccessful. I know JKR wanted to show a mother's love, but like you said, people forget about James.

I was torn between Remus and Sirius. But then, Sirius will get more love anyways, so I chose Remus.
He's so pitiful and something about his calm exterior just makes me like him. I have my issues with him, but I just love him anyways. I love Sirius and James too, don't get me wrong, but Remus is so cute.

Remus - even though he almost abandons his wife and unborn child. I'm afraid to say that I don't have a real reason to pick him over everyone else, but I just always liked him better than the other Marauders. |

Padfoot here as well. As much as I want to kick him in the head for the stunt he pulled with Severus, he truly is the most loyal of the bunch, and he gets major woobie points with the whole Azkaban thing.

I love Remus so much! He lives 12 years thinking all of his friends are dead or traitors, he finally finds out one isn't and then he dies two years later, then he finally gets happiness with Tonks and he's killed. It makes me so sad, because he's such a good character despite his flaws.

Remus is one of my favourite characters and is my favourite Marauder. I wonder what his character would have been like if he wasn't afflicted with lycanthropy! Afterall, he was very talented, quiet and unassuming. But, I can't help but wonder....what if?

Sirius. No doubt about it. He may have been a bully at school, and that stunt with Snape was idiotic at best, but he was brave and loyal. He tried his best to protect James, Lily and Harry, he broke out of Azkaban and lived off rats to protect Harry, he was the only one adult who wrote to him despite being on the run (an excuse no one else had!), he was the only one adult who treated Harry as the older teen/near adult he was and realised he needed to know certain stuff, while Dumbledore wanted to keep him in the dark and Molly babied him.
Add to that the fact that Sirius was the one who got the worst - an abusive home that drove him into running away at only 16, being imprisoned with about 21 for live without questioning and trial for something he didn't do, abandoned by all his friends and allies (I'll never forgive Dumbledore for not insisting on a trial - both in 1981 and in 1994), then he ended up practically a prisoner in the house he hated so much and that caused him depressions and nightmares, and in the end he died before his name was cleared. He deserved better than that!

Wow, no votes for James?
I know I voted for Sirius, and it makes sense that both Sirius and Lupin would get the most votes considering the character development (and the fact that they aren't Benedict Arnolds). Still, I'm slightly surprised that he is left in the dust along with Wormtail.

I think we cant really love James b/c we never really met him in the books... We met Sirius and Lupin and even Pettigrew, but never James... but if Harry really is that much like his father, I'd love James...

Remus all the way for me, I do love sirius but he is just such a child. Remus especialy in the books is just someone you want to hug because he is so down on him self yet he is really cool (wish i had had a teacher like him).

Okay... I've just read a few fanfics... and I have realized that I love Remus more than Sirius. (I change my mind a lot) I've been reading the fics that show Remus's Hogwarts years, and wow... well written Remus is now tied with Snape as my fave character! |

I will admit to being the one to vote for Peter ;D. Not because I approve of betrayal, nothing I hate more then one who is no longer loyal (One of my reasons I used to pretty much throw the book every time Ron spoke.) However, I've been thinking a lot of Peter and find his story very intriguing... He is the marauder who was always in the back ground, never really the star of a fic... Makes me wonder who he is and what he's like- Why did he turn evil? He clearly wasn't a complete idiot, given all his accomplishments (Marauder's map, Animagus, skill at the Reducto charm...). Anyways, I have a tendency to sympathize and prefer the bad guys of any group/story.

While I dislike Peter I do admit that he probably has a interesting story. And you do bring up an interesting question. He obviously at one point in time loved his friends so much that he was willing to break the law (by becoming an unregistered Animagus) and risk his life once a month to be there for one of them. So why did he turn evil? I actually read one fic where he changed sides to keep them safe and that the reason he gave up their location was because he figured that James and Lily were young and while they would be sad for a while they would get over it and have more children. Not that that excuses it or anything, but I thought it was an interesting theory.
Anyway...currently my favorite Marauder is Remus. I tend to switch between Remus and Sirius a lot. They're both such fascinating characters and I love reading about the two of them. They've both had such horrible lives that you just want to make it better for them. But there is just a little something extra about Remus that makes me want to hug him. That something is probably what had me vote for him over Sirius.

I love Remus and I was searching for a "Peter's Life" fanfic on fanfiction.net... and I couldn't find one... There are even fics about Voldemort becoming nicer, and "Changing his past" fics, where Voldemort didn't grow up in an orphanage or soething... but Wormy is always portrayed as the betraying little rat (which he kinda is) and I wonder why no one sympathizes with him.. I mean, standing up for you friends... really important... but if your life was on the line, what would you do? I'm not sure yet... I hope I don't betray them, if I did it would suck...  |
