I think so to. Or they were friends Dumbledore wanted more, but Gellert wasn't attracted to him that, which maybe why they had that falling out. Or Gellert wanted to end their relationship and Dumbledore didnt like that.

I thought they were lovers, which was part of why Dumbledore hesitated so long before facing Gellert. I know book 7 says that Dumbledore was afraid of the knowledge of who had killed Ariana, but I wouldn't think that would be enough to cause him to stall for as lond as he did.

Dumbledore definitely loved him, but that doesn't mean they were lovers. Dumbledore probably thought they had all the time in the world to get together while they were ruling world.

personally, I try not to think of Dumbledore with anyone, because my brain goes straight to Very Wrinkly And Hairy Old Guy sex, wails in terror, and hides for a month. I just *cannot* picture a young Dumbledore.

I just *cannot* picture a young Dumbledore. Ever since I read The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore I can picture a young Dumbledore quite easily and I think a young idealist at least thats how I saw his younger self would been very taken with a young handsome Gellert especially if he matched and challenged him for wits

Lovers. Gellert may have not returned Albus' feelings, but who says he wasn't up for using him? I just made myself sad.

I always thought lovers, but Gellert was less emotionally involved. He never really cared until he lost everything, you know? Whereas Dumbledore cared too much and got taken for a ride.

I just pity him because of how things with Gellert ended.

Probably lovers, yes, though I suspect Gellert was less emotionally involved. Sherza, you are not the only one who finds it hard to picture a younger Dumbledore. And the one we know with anyone - ewww.

I know, right?
Mass quantities of heavy-duty brain bleach required anytime my brain even thinks of going there.
I mean, holy shit. He's like, what, a hundred and twenty, as of PS/SS? Not to be completely crude, but can he even get it up anymore? And talk about wrinkly. And all that hair! I mean, can you even imagine trying to kiss that? Bleargh.
*heads for the bleach*

I never really thought about them as lovers. I was very surprised when I read that somewhere and I still can not get that impression from the books.

I suspect that comes to a good deal from the fact that JKR said that she had imagined Dumbledore as gay.

I always thought they were lovers but as was previously stated I think Dumbledore was probably more emotionally invested. From what we read in DH he seemed very naive and I can picture him falling completely in love and all hearts and roses and happily ever after while Gellert was the more cynical, world weary badass who may have loved Albus in his own way but really only cared about himself.
