What the title of this forum said basically sums up my intro. What if we start a seperate forum to post oneshots? If someone comes up with an image, like Dim's story here was bases off an idea of Sherza's (so she gets some credit too) www.fanfiction.net/s/8287675/1/ But the thing is, these oneshots don't just have to be HP related. For example, I could mention on a forum a conversation between JKR and SM in which they discuss biology and logical responses to different situations in both their books. If someone finds the idea funny, they can create a oneshot to share on the seperate forum section. As long as you credit the muse like Dimcairen did, then I see no problem with it. They don't necessarily have to be funny, you could create a sad story about how HP was just a dream like Kuma suggested. So what do people think? Is it an idea worth exploring?

Actually, I really think that could be fun. When I think back over the discussions here, there are some nice images of little scenes that would be fun to use, but don't merit their own longer story or don't fit in a story someone of us is writing. So, why not make a little oneshot, like Dimcairien did? Or something like you just suggested. So I am all for it!

Thats exactly what I was thinking. We have so many talented writers here, and I know that I've had a few major brain blasts with funny visuals, but posting a story in a post is a bit riduculous, and posting it on FFN when sometimes it's not even a Fandom idea, gets annoying. Plus, it makes more sense if everything that's related to this board stays on this board, right?

Inside of these threads, stories would be hard to find, yes. (Though maybe we should open a review thread at the same time and post the link to it at the end of each story, or we'll have the same problem all over again). Besides, the way FFN is behaving - why should they get all the good stuff?

I think another good subforum would be for all the "What do you think about..." Topics. Honestly, I'm getting a bit tired of seeing "What about Harry/Hermione/Ron/whoever" because inevitably, it's going to lead to an argument. I think it would be easier to have a subforum for those, so they don't clutter up the main page, and you can avoid them if you want to.

LOL, exactly Kitty. And it's just an idea still, something we'd need to fine tweak a bit. If it's just a one shot I think reviews can just be posted below the story. If it's a two/three part then maybe it should have it's own little section inside the forum.
I totally agree Viralic. It's at the end a matter of opinion, and I can no more change your opinion you've developed over the years of following Harry Potter than you can change mine.

Ah yes, I was thinking of putting all the stories in one thread and the reviews in another, but for oneshots it would probably be better to have a thread for each story and just adds the reviews. Talking about not seeing the wood from the trees ... *shakes head about herself* In any case, it's a great idea.
So true. It's pretty obvious I'll never agree with certain people about anything, but get along with others famously. Well, I can imagine that over time the forum will get a bit more structured; the good thing is that you can add stuff later and just move threads over or something. It's impossible to do it in the beginning, when you don't know how it will develop and all that. And the "Let's kill ..." threads could be a subforum "Character bashing" or something like that.

The subforums sound like a good plan. And all these idea threads like a challenge board suggestion or a site skin suggestion should get it's own subforum too. The General thread should be more towards just general things, like exploring plot points, or Wrock, or just other topics like television and movies.
And it's alright, everyone misses the main idea at points. As for agreeing, I find that with some people I agree on certain things, but on others we are bang opposite in view points. However, the great thing about this site and it's admin is that no one is put down or verbally attacked because of their opinion. I could spout speeches on why Gilderoy Lockhart is the smartest guy in the book and though my ideas will get torn down immediately, no one will verbally attack me, does that make sense?

LOL, the idea of Lockhart being smart would indeed be shot down faster than you can formulate the idea!
You make perfect sense to me. Yes, we may disagree about things and argue with some intensity, but so far it didn't end up in personal attacks, as we usually formulate our disagreement at least civilly.

Try and picture him a genius. You can't call him Lockhart anymore.
I don't think it will end in personal attacks. Everyone on the board seems too mature to go into petty things like that. I can't say about newcomers, but the admins and moderators will immediately interfere if things get bad. And personally I feel that anyone who resorts to personal attacks just doesn't have the brain power to formulate opinions and provide evidence supporting their point.

Let's hope you are right. My very first forum was that way for a long time, but then the Admin didn't have much time, and the Co-Admin thought it funny to fire every disagreement into full-blown arguments, and over time emotions were running high, people exploded over things they would have shrugged off before, and in the end, I simply left, as did the few sensible ones left. It didn't exist much longer after that. So I am a bit wary about that. But with the right Admins and Mods, that should hopefully stay under control.

The first forum I was on that I was serious about and actually posted on, the owner of the site/forum went mad with power (how fail to go mad with power because you can admin a forum) and started banning anyone who said anything negative at all about what he liked.

I hope I'm right too My first forum started off pretty good, but it ended up with creeps always trying to arrange offline meetings and personal attacks against opinions. I met one crazy chick who was nineteen and upset because she legally couldn't date her thirteen/fourteen year old boyfriend. She was definitely one person who forced my hand to leave. I don't really check there anymore.

This sounds like a fun idea to me, gnovella.
Maybe a subboard under the "general" heading? Everyone could simply start a new topic with the story or scene in it, and we could make a review thread sticky, so that it's always on top...
That should actually be pretty easy to do. And I know I'd contribute, since I had quite a few "funny images" moments, too, while reading here on the board. ;D

Can totally see that - our former co-admin was basically running around, slapping his own chest and crowing "I'm an admin, I have the power" Really stupid. I hope I'm right too My first forum started off pretty good, but it ended up with creeps always trying to arrange offline meetings and personal attacks against opinions. I don't really check there anymore. Ugh, not good. While I have meet some of my online friends from that forum (and later ones) in RL, it were only the ones I knew very well after many looooong chats on AIM. The only one who was developing stalking tendencies and tried to invite himself I never allowed in, of course.

I'm glad people are liking the idea and want to contribute I'll PM Point Given and see if we can get that started then. It may be a little rough at first, but it would definitely be fun to see the ideas people can come up with.

What kind of oneshots?

Post by viralic1 on Jul 5, 2012 11:16:59 GMT -5
I may end up doing a few one-shots, if you want me to contribute. I've been thinking about writing a one-shot that's within the universe of my story.

Oh, I've seen that, LOL. @viralic- Anything goes, but it's technically supposed to connect to the forums. I'm not too sure on the rules yet, but if you see an idea within forums that connect to your story, I don't see why you can't write it. @wings- Between you and Pinky, the oneshots will be filled up rather quickly with murderous intent
