In the movies, key word movies, they didn't have this in the book, but again, in the movies there is a bombarda spell and it comes in two different forms: Bombarda and Bombarda Maxima. Well, Hermione used Bombarda to release Sirius from The castle tower in her third year, yet it caused practically the same amount of damage as Umbridge's simpered, "Bombarda Maxima." I just thought that was interesting, because Maxima at the end of the spell is supposed to amplify the effects, I thought. Sorry, needed to say it whilst I thought of it.

Might just be a case of magical power. Umbridge could be weak, therefore her Bombarda Maxima might be weaker than Hermione's Bombarda.

That's exactly what I was thinking, I just thought that it is amazing that Hermione, in her third year, was stronger than the person who sent dementers after Harry, not that they mention that in the movie.

Well Umbridge isn't exactly magically strong. Hell, her hatred of muggleborns may come from the fact that many of them are stronger than her, despite her 'pure blood'

They also had entirely different targets, in the movie.
Hermione was aiming at an iron grillework cell door, which was attached to the wall only at the hinges ... fairly easy to blast off, really.
Umbridge was aiming at a solid wall.

Yeah, I know. It was stupid, and a passing thought. I don't have anyone to talk to about these things, so you know. Nevermind, sorry for waisting you time. Conversation/threat over.

No, this wasn't stupid! There are no stupid questions here, Crystal! And no, you didn't waste our time! I've made stupider threads myself. (Let's Kill Umbitch, anyone?)

Yeah, it wasn't a stupid question. It was pretty valid, IMO.

agreed.
I do tend to think that Umbridge was pathetic ... it'd explain a lot. *snicker*. I was just pointing out that what Hermione aimed at and what Umbridge aimed at were very different.
What's funny is that I think Umbridge took over the battering from someone else (in the movie). As I recall, there were two or three booms, a little hole broke open, and then you heard Umbridge go 'I'll take care of this' (or words to that effect).
Given who else was with her ... I can see why a Bombarda Maxima would have been needed. I mean hell, it was her, Filch, Crabbe/Goyle, and Malfoy (that I remember for sure). So ... mostly pathetic idiots, power-wise (if they had any magical ability at all).
