You know what bugged me about Voldie?
She makes him this pure evil guy, all powerful, blah blah blah. Then he's so damn stupid! He's such a stereotypical bad guy that I actually got bored reading his past. If she was going to make him a psychopath from birth, she could have created so much depth to him, but he came off as really ordinary and flat. Just a mass murderer with magic was what I saw in him. She could have gone through making him smarter, more insane, really done the over-the-top pure evil type thing, but I ended up thinking Umbridge was more twisted than him. Bellatrix= more twisted. Voldemort. Meh.

I agree that people are a bit off when they say he was amazing and such a hero and great person, but I think he's still got a huge amount of courage to do the things he did, even if he was playing both sides. You've got to have balls of steel to do that. Courage doesn't make a decent person though...

Oh, I don't deny that he fulfilled a highly dangerous job rather well, but as you said, decent is something else. His overall behaviour is why I can't stand him.

I agree with Silvertongue. Snape was an awful human being, but he was extremely brave. Whatever said and done, Snape was a hero, an awful hero, but a hero nonetheless. Seriously. The entire war hinges on Snape's betrayal when you think of it.

That's what I mean. He was pivotal for the war, whether people like him or not. I personally think he knew he'd have to get involved with spying again eventually and closed himself off from people even more than he had done as a child so he wouldn't get attached to ayone and nobody would get attached to him so wouldn't be hurt if he (or whoever he cared for) died or 'betrayed' them. And he's a cold bastard anyway but his situation wouldn't have helped. If he allowed himself to care and be nice there was bound to be someone who'd grow attached and it would be harder to act differently in DE meetings. It's far easier to wear that mask constantly than it is to wear it occassionally.

Same with Dumbles, I believe she will forgive Voldemort before them. Even if Snape couldn't have removed Harry from the Dursleys, he could have ensured that they at least feed, clothe, and house him properly, and if they refuse send a House-elf to do that for them. Serves to purposes really take care of Harry, and give him good pre wizarding education without Dumbles being any the wiser. I highly doubt Dumbles paid much attention to what went on there anyways. I mean who disobey the great Oz... er wrong fandom.

That goes along with the not allowing himself to care theory.

Dumbledore always thought people would act like he thought and wanted or demanded, and couldn't fathom why that doesn't work. Besides, he had placed Arabella Figg two streets away, so Harry was properly watched, right? From there she would know everything about him

yeah notice that she is an old cat lady squib who in the wizarding world would believe her if she went to either authorities.

Plus there's the fact that she worshipped Dumbledork, and even if hse did tell him what she knew of Harry's living conditions, he could have told her that either she was exaggerating, or Harry was, so she would ignore it. She did say that she had had to treat Harry badly so the Dursleys didn't stop sending him to her, so she had to have known what was going on.

And very likely told the old codger and he either told her exact that or ignored it. God, was there even a single adult who did his duty? Why was Sirius the only one who really tried to help? There are days when I want to kick all the adults!

Now there's a story idea... the kids have enough of the adults... and so revolt. Though they would have to be careful about it...

I can't remember the title of this story right now, but there's one that takes place during OOTP and involves the DA starting a revolution against the Ministry and against Dumbledore. It ended up being a full-scale war against the Ministry and Dumbledore.
I'll look and see if it's in either my favs or alerts as it seems that a lot of you would be interested.

Yeah, that's the one. I couldn't remember what it was called for the life of me. All of this discussion about rebelling brought it to mind.
Thanks for finding it, Kitty.

You're welcome! Actually I couldn't remember author or title, either, but I was sure there was something about the boycott in the summary, so I went and searched for DADA boycott. It was the only story that came up

I just started reading that but it's not in a style of writing I like. It's all talking and there are quite a few words missing.
