I guess we will have to wait until JK Rowling releases books on the Marauder Years, or info on Pottermore to answer the Shrieking Shack question or get info on all of the transgressions between Snape and the Marauders

I have to agree with Sherza, what Sirius did was inexcusable. Sending a guy after a werewolf is not cool. Especially if the werewolf pretty much hates his condition/himself and would probably jump of a bridge if he found out he infected someone/killed someone,
As for Snape being an idiot and checking it out, I get the feeling Snape took that as a life lesson and became more of a sneaky snake because of it.
