Well, at least it is out there now. I agree with the main reason people are mad at ff.net. It is insulting to your members when you delete a story without notifying the author to change it beforehand. That just makes you look like a uber-douchebag of douchebaggery there.

it's good that it's out there. I am going to spread it all over the social media and hopefully some will do the same, hopefully this gets the attention it deservers.
Will it be books next?
Dort wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man auch am Ende Menschen. Where they have burned books, they will end in burning human beings. -Heinrich Heine (found this quote online)

I see this going three ways:
1. FF.net apologies publicly and warns authors before deleting fics.
2. Movie studios, publishing companies, and the actual creators of the original works of fiction revolt and try to make it illegal to publish or upload fanfiction.
3. This whole thing is completely ignored and we go on our (un)merry way.

I have been tempted to contact the media about it, but never could figure out what to say if I did. But it is nice to see it made the news Somewhere.

have you looked at the reviews? Not too promising. Only one agrees and she accidently posted twice. The rest are all for the purge.

Sadly did not get to the reviews, took me forever just to get the page to load so I could read it. But it is sad that people are agreeing to the Purge, I mean is it really all that hard to add a couple filters, and making it so only Members can even get into the M to MA area.
But it does open a can of worms you know, makes you wonder who will be hit next? I am sure that they would not stop at just FF.net.

They probably not stop until all their original works are taken down

You know the article was right, I mean look at the Star Wars and Star Trek novels, anything off of the main movies would be considered Fanfiction in a way, yes they are sanctioned by Lucus and Roddenberry but they are not exactly Cannon, as the Owner did not write them, other authors did and just got their approval.
Which makes me wonder why J.K. does not allow that because the royalties alone from that aspect would be enormous.

I would be extremely shocked if the original creators of a fandom blocked fanfiction. A lot of the new writers in modern fiction started in fanfiction and then went up. In my mind, fanfiction is like used video games. Both have been around for so long that their would a large uproar over stopping them.

I agree with you. if you think about it then all the copied holy books should destroyed since it people that copied it is stealing the original authors' works.

This purge is not just of FF.net but also of it's other site, fictionpress.net where you can post ORIGINAL WORKS. They have decided to uphold the rating system on that site now too, deleting many a users work on there as well. They are as good as book burning by doing that. These are not just fanfictions, but actual stories created by the users, that they are now erasing without a second thought. It is completely outragous.

Oh holy crap...shit just got real. Yes indeed it did kumainpink. Like my friend so kindly pointed out to me, it is like telling a renowned author that they can no longer publish their work because it's, supposedly, "Too violent in nature." They are oppressing us and our creativity just because a few people stood up and complained that they didn't like some of the content that was being posted. In my mind, they should follow the creed of 'You don't like it, then don't read it.'

OK, I can understand ff.net wanting to delete some of the more risque and disgusting sex fic's that plagued the site but what is considered "MA" rated violence? I always thought that "MA" violence was graphic rape or descriptive torture, you know? Because if they considered some of the bloodier battles in some fics, they would have to delete 75% of the anime/manga fics on their site.

I'm beginning to seriously wonder about the sanity of these people. In case of original works they can't even excuse that with copyrights and all that. And why allow people to post for years and then suddenly reconsider? *bangs head*
