Does anyone enjoy the new 'setup' of FF.net? I have to say, I hate it. It's annoying, and bugs the crap out of me.

You mean with the annoying pictures and the weird lines underneath every story? I find it... distracting.

new things usually bug me anyway and it takes me a while to get used to them. I'm waiting to get used to it so I'll withhold judgement.

It irritates me a bit, I was used to look for the numbers to keep track of how far I had looked over the new stories. Plus, while it's not a problem for me personally, I suspect all these pictures might possibly cause problems for people with slow computers, as they stretch the loading time out.
Oh well, I am not sure how long I'll still be there anyway.

They are just trying to get more readers. Me thinks that they will loose more with this ploy.

And that doesn't even count the many people they are driving away with the current purge. A few piccies aren't going to make up for driving hundreds of good authors off! Do they actually think they could keep people happy with such a change?

I think that ff.net has lost what made it good all those years back. I joined in 2009, but now, I'm seeing a pathetic site that has gone down from it's high perch.

It's a shame 'coz that's the first site I discovered for fanfiction and I've been loyal for about 5 years now, rarely ever reading on another site except potionsandsnitches but now I find myself trying to find any other site.

AO3 is just as amazing. Maybe a bit more since they have tags to filter the stories you want. So if you have a specific couple in mind, just click on the tag (if it exists) and every story with this couple appears. Or if you have a specific genre like "AU", "AU-Time travel", etc.

AO3 stands for Archives of our own.

Actually, I have been reading LotR fics there before, but left in 2004 following some amazing authors to a website I have been on happily for ever since. Now I came back to give FFN another chance - and they wasted it. Big time.

To be frank, I can't really say that I don't like it, but I don't love it. I think that, like a lot of other changes, once I get used to it, I'll like it. Kinda like with Facebook. Also, there are lots of other good Fanfic archives. I've not been to AO3 yet, so I need to do that, but it looks like the servers have been flooded with traffic at the moment (It's slooooow). It looks promising, though
There are quite a few others, though. There's patronuscharm (very small archive, but with good-quality fics) which is tied into the DLP forums, as I understand. There's also ficwad. The downside is that it doesn't have much in the way of filtering options. I also like HPfanficarchive. Those are the big ones I use.

The pictures really annoy me, but I think that with time I'll get used to it, just like any change that has already happened.

The things is, I couldn't be bothered to add a picture to every story I put up. I'd have to find or create one and I'd be very picky about it.

I like the layout of ao3, but the search didn't work for me as it was getting out of the fandom I chose all the time, and I had a problem with the tags, I couldn't choose more than one at a time.

I just saw it, and it does look a bit annoying. At least the mobile version hasn't been changed yet, but I know they'll probably change that too at some point.

I wouldn't mind if they changed the mobile version. I can't stand that version.

I like the mobile version, I use it on my ipod and I like that we don't have to search for Harry Potter as it's the book with most fics.

This wouldn't be such a big deal, if they weren't forcing the change. It's not that hard to have different themes for websites.

I find it very jarring and distracting, I really hope they change it back. Actually I hope all the good authors of non-Characters read stories abandon FFN and go to the new site yourfanfiction.com as it sounds so much better than FFN.

I agree it's really not that hard to adjust to the new themes but they are forcing us to change and that's what making it a downer

No.
1) I miss the numbers. 2) You can no longer go directly to a page number. What was the point of taking this out.

I sincerely hope they'll come up with a disabling feature for those authors (such as myself) who find the new feature more annoying than helpful.

Now that will get annoying quickly, though for certain stories, especially the really long ones, it might be somewhat handy to have the synopsis at the top of the page.

I've always kind of wanted to have this feature. I often times open go through a page and then open lots of stories in new tabs. By the time I am ready to read it, I have no idea what it is about, and then I need to click on the author name to find the summary.
