Hogwarts United is gone, and now it's probably only a matter of time until A Better Understanding is gone as well. I'm just glad I backed them up in time!
Still, it's depressing to see my story gone. I'm sure many of us knows how that feels. : (

Same here. But at least I already posted the whole story here and my fans on Wattpad are also very supportive.

Yeah, this is horrible. And since every story I have planned is ether a CR or CR related, I'm done posting on FFN. I'm now posting here, and looking for alternate sites to post on.

Wattpad has a great community. Check my Hoping For a Better Future on there (the penname is SerenaSnape) and you'll see just how supportive they are.

I shall take a look. I've also been invited to join Archive of our Own, so I'll be looking there too. I suppose this isn't good bye, but the next great adventure. I'm crying now...I love FFN. It was where my writing flourished. I won't even post non-CR fics on the site... But that's fine. Screw FFN. There are other places.

lol, I won't post my book there either, I'll just read stories there. It's still good for that at least.

Yes, it's sad, but take comfort in the knowledge that you were warned in advance and could save everything if you hadn't done so already. For these that were hit first the shock must have been even worse.
Wouldn't post on FFN, either. If we ever get our story finished enough to post, we'd not go there, even if they would allow CR again. We are fed up with it, frankly. No matter the TOS, the way they go about the whole thing annoys me more than anything. There are better sites. And look how much fun it is to chat here in the general section - that's something FFN didn't have to offer! Or at least not in the same way.

I have had a story deleted before so I knew what to expect if/when they decided to delete another one of my stories. And I agree, for those that were unaware of the purge, the shock must have been enormous. I just hope that all of them decide to join this forum and still post their stories and not just stop writing them as I know that some authors decided to. And it's very fun chatting here. We have a better community than FF.Net already. I'm really happy I found this forum. ^___^

I can't imagine how horrible it was for the writers who DIDN'T get their work backed up. *shivers* I hurt for them even more than I did before, now that I've experienced the shock for myself.

I always have all my stories saved on my computer... just in case. I lost my first story because I didn't have it saved and I was lucky enough to find it on FictionAlley where I also posted it. But unfortunately it was only up to chapter nine or so, and I had written about nineteen chapters of it.

Ouch. That was really bad, losing 10 chapters! I'm feeling with you.
Myself I am a bit obsessed about backups. I've done it before, and then my uncle told me that a colleague of him (they are teachers) got a new pc and started eagerly typing all her school stuff into it. After half a year, the HD crashed, and she didn't have even one single file backed up! She lost everything she had done in six months, for my uncle could replace her HD, but the content of the old one was lost. After that story, I ended up even more paranoid. Thanks to the help of my little bro, I have now an external HD running as backup server, with automatical backups every hour. That way I can't lose anything, thank God. There's nothing better than a backup on some other place, an USB stick, HD or whatever.

I pulled A Better Understanding (which had 9 chapters) And Hogwarts United got deleted (it had 3 chapters) So I've lost a total of 13 if you count both fics. Just on FFN at any rate. Luckily, I backed my work up. I don't blame you about being backup paranoid. I'd be too.

Was thinking of your first story you mentioned and which you obviously didn't have backed up. Oh, and some weeks ago my pc decided to get all hung up during a system update. In the end, I had to switch it off - which crashed the whole system. Had to re-install it from the beginning, which means, everything on it was lost. Luckily I had my backup server ... there are times when it pays off to be a bit paranoid

Didn't you keep the emails? I'm sorry, that has to be so frustrating for you - and not only for you. Some of the stories now deleted had so many great reviews ...

I used to use Yahoo and deleted them regularly. I only have a few for each fic now. And yeah, I lost many great reviews... Ah well. I'll get new ones someday, I suppose.

I see. Sad. But at least you still have the story, and you know people liked it. I tend to keep my mails (well, most of them), but I am downloading them, and on my pc there's a lot of space for them. Though I really should go and clean out the folders ... nah. Not in the mood.
