Well, I exalted you to make up for the smiting. Ah, you didn't have to do that but thinks anyway. I was just worried about offending someone here.

Which shows that you'd not do it willingly, you know?

Yep. I tend to just ignore post that I don't agree with or try to make a neutral response.

Btw, it could be possible that someone clicks on these buttons just because they don't know what they do - like you would follow any option you don't know, to find out what it is. I know *I* didn't get what exalt/smite means for days! Never seen that sort of button with these names before.

True, true...I just tend to ignore that little system in other forums I prowl. I never really understood the point for it but it must warn people of trolls and such.

In another forum I know, it was used for particularly good or bad posts. But that was before my time and before they moved to a new one where that was not possible. Personally I was never on a board where it was even possible so far. Another reason why I didn't know what they meant.

To me the little rating system in forums and boards seems to be how people think the worth of an individuals words are. It seems a little unfair that you use a system that could basically make it look like someones words are meaningless. It could cause people to quit the forum or such because they were basically ignored or ridiculed. I know it is used correctly for trolls who try to start an arguement and it helps people ignore them but sometimes it is used out of term. Ah, anyway that is how I feel about the rating system.

Yeah, I pretty much ignore it. It never mattered to me at all.

Trolls should just be banned, IMO. I'd probably only use the positive version, to praise particularly good posts, but would be hesitant to put the thumbs down on one. A different opinion is no reason to put others down, and I'd not do it for people not being able to express themselves too well or making a few mistakes, so why use it?

I've wondered that myself. I have also been on the recieving of the thumbs down action in a former forum. It turned out the dude was targeting me because I didn't agree about a Final Fantasy game in a thread. He somehow made multiple accounts to do it and by the time it stopped I was -22 in karma.

Stupid. I could understand criticising a post where people are deliberately rude or something, but that's about it. And just for being of a different opinion ... *head->desk* What happened to freedom of opinion?

It commited social suicide in the '90's with common sense.

XD It's so true though. I know I lack common sense in certain situations, especially when I'm tired and there's a very simple solution to flicking the light switch off but I don't even think to put down all the things in my arms and continue to struggle until I drop my phone in a cup of tea and that cup of tea on the floor and then everything gets destroyed... I actually did this once. Somehow, the phone survived.

I've put off a light switch with my chin before.
But once when I was carrying too many things up the stairs, ketchup and sweet and sour packets fell off the top of what I was carrying. I figured I'd just come back for them, so I kept going. But I heard a crunch, so I thought that I'd stepped on the sweet and sour, and I figured I'd have to throw that one out.
But when I came back, I saw that I'd actually stepped on a ketchup packet, and it had exploded all over my wall.

Try one that registrates movement - then next time your phone doesn't need to take a bath But phones are tough. Mine survived one night in the snow in freezing temperatures.

Wow... What phone was it? I doubt my iPhone could handle all that much damage. The one that survived tea (for 10 seconds and without being allowed to dry afterwards) was a Samsung U500 (I think?).

Mine was actually run over by a truck... and survived with just a few scratches...
(But I admit that I choose my mobile phones to be durable. No nonsense cameras or internet or smart stuff for me! Nope. When I go into a shop to buy a phone now, my only question to the salesman is: "Will it survive a truck running over it?" Anything else won't survive a week in my hands...)

HAHA! I have to have something with the internet or I could never keep up with fanfiction. And I love photography so a camera is a necessity for me, because I always feel like punching myself when I see something I want to take a picture of (quite often) and realise I've left my camera AND my phone at home. I can live without the actual camera so long as I know I have a bad-quality one there. Stupid, I know.

I can live without the actual camera so long as I know I have a bad-quality one there. Stupid, I know. For me, I just need a phone to telephone with. Sounds a bit strange, does it? But those aren't easy to find. Nowadays, most phones on the market are smartphones... So, I usually carry around cheap prepaid phones. I need to be contactable at work (even if I'm not in the office), and I tend to just put my phone into a handy pocket (jacket or pants) and then they tend to fall down when I climb around on (or under) tables and such... I've had a phone that fell down and was kicked around by constructions workers (in those heavy boots) before I got round to pick it up again. And, yeah, there was that memorable time with the truck... (we were unloading some equipment, phone fell out of jacket pocket unnoticed, truck drove off, and I noticed my phone missing... *sigh*) So, no fancy add ons for my phones. I just can't bring myself to spending so much money for something that is likely to be broken within a few weeks. But I have unlimited internet access at work, so I don't actually need a phone for that. And I usually draw things into my notebook instead of taking photos...

That's fair enough and probably for the best if you're in that kind of work place. But for me being on the tube train for over 2 hours a day... it's time wasted if I don't have music or something to read. I am so glad I have a smart phone during those times. Also I have a 4 hour car journey (all together) at the weekends to visit my Dad and need internet on the move or I'll die of boredom.

Some very old Bosch phone. Still have it, though by now it's at least 12 years old, probably older. Can't remember for sure when I got it, only know I already had it a while in 2001. It slipped out of my pocket when I left the car at the stables about 3 years ago, and only after the ride I noticed it missing. Not finding it around the place, I took the car to drive the whole round through. Nothing. As it got dark, I gave up. Next morning, I went back, walked the whole round on foot. Nothing. Resigned to it being lost, I went back to the car, unlocked it. Suddenly I saw something dark besides my foot and - guess what it was? Mine was actually run over by a truck... and survived with just a few scratches... (But I admit that I choose my mobile phones to be durable. No nonsense cameras or internet or smart stuff for me! I'd like to see their faces!

Ah. That's understandable then. I'm on the train too for about two hours a day (one hour to work, another one back), but I have to change trains in between, so it's not that bad. I usually just take an mp3 player along. And it's real trains so it's not quite as boring as the tube (and a lot more comfortable). I'm never quite sure how my sister manages when she comes to visit. She has a 7 to 8 hour train ride just getting here. And again that much until she's back at her place... She's always carrying books with her (not novels, but textbooks). But I couldn't do that. I'm always feel terribly sick when I try reading something in a car or on a train... I think, they've gotten used to me. I also tend to dig through the whole boy of prepaid phones just to find one with a catchy phone number... Because I have trouble remembering them otherwise. By now, the local shop keepers are mostly bemused when I say that I need another phone...

For me, books are *the* solution for trains of all type. Including day-long bus rides. But I don't get sick - so that's no problem.
Well, I use my phone only for SMS anyway, that's why I never got a new, modern one. The old one I'll use till it takes it last breath, so to speak.

Ah, I have many friends like that but I love reading in the car. I would take books with me but my bag is heavy enough as it is and my shoulders kill me from sitting over a keyboard, heavier bag wouldn't be good.
