There are things that we can't see but still exist, so why shouldn't any of the creatures Luna talks about? Just because they can't be seen doesn't mean they don't exist.

I love Luna's openmind she doesn't need definitive proof to belive in something. I love Hermione but she has to get over the fact that if it isn't in the textbooks doesn't mean it isn't real it just means that the person writing it hasn't seen proof. Afterall bacteria weren't real until someone looked down a microscope and saw them and new species are being discovered all the time.

I love Luna, but I can see Hermione's point. Luna's a bit gullible if you know what I mean. Like the entire Rotfang conspiracy. Open-minded-ness is one thing, but Luna takes it to new levels. However, that doesn't mean Hermione was right either. She needed to let Luna be.

Not gullible exactly she just had belief in her father.

I love Luna. She's not afraid to be herself. She does seem a bit gullible but she is loyal to Harry. She does believe in some weird things but there are things you can't see that don't exist like wind. I haven't seen lions but I know they exist for example. Maybe nargles do exist.

Yes but both her and her father were gullible, and just because she trusted her father makes me feel that she's very innocent and childlike.

I think Luna was a bit out there, but maybe some of those creatures are real.

Hermione is too narrow-minded. I mean did she believe magic existed before she went to Hogwarts? I doubt it. She grew up believing that giants and dragons didn't exist but now they do? Makes no sense to me

I'm not denying their real, just that she takes things to seriously with little proof, and while I love her, I see Hermione's pointl

I agree that Hermione is too narrow-minded. She didn't believe that the Deathly Hallows could exist, but then Harry showed her proof. He had the cloak and the wand, and while he dropped the stone in the forest, he did use it, and she would probably have to believe that it existed, because how else would Harry be able to call back the three true marauders and Lily before he died?

Hermione: you were probably dreaming it Harry, you hadn't slept in hours and were under tremendous stress, its no surprise you saw them, you really wanted to.
I think she fears the unknown, and being powerless in a world that she never believed could exist

*nods* Makes sense, really. I bet a lot of muggleborns feel that way.

hehe, this thread reminds me of a bit of a crackfic moment I had thought up for my story, involving Nargles and Crumplehorned Snorkacks.

*nods* Makes sense, really. I bet a lot of muggleborns feel that way. They probably do, however, what if some of the animals Luna and her father talk about is their way of trying to avoid talking about sex? What if the crumple-horned snorkack is Luna's way of talking about a cock?

That is the oddest theory I've heard about. Are you telling me Luna and her father go cock-hunting on expensive trips? *Jaw drops at idea*

Makes you wonder what they were really planning with the Erumpent horn, doesn't it?

She probably doesn't, but how do we know that she knows what she's talking about? I just thought that Luna's father would call a cock a crumple-horned snorkack, and that they went on holiday because he had a girlfriend and didn't want to tell Luna.

Personally, while I don't think all of the animals exist - quite a few people don't believe in them, after all - some of them probably do. This is a magical world we're talking about, after all.

And they do even nowadays sometimes find new animals previously not known, so why shouldn't there be some in the magical world that haven't really been found yet?
There may not all of Luna's creatures exist, but I wouldn't be surprised if some did. And even if not, Hermione still could be a bit nicer. She really belongs to the people who need to beaten over the head with the facts before believing anything.

I love Luna. She is one of my favorite characters. Hermione is too close minded. She means well, but not everything can be shown in cold hard facts. There are plenty of unsolved mysteries out here. Some of the creatures may exist or possible been extinct.

I love that girl. Luna, I mean. On some points I think she's to open minded, but it's nice that there's still some innocence out there. I heavily disliked how Hermione treated her, although I love them both. Hermione was way to rude, although I see her point. Luna is the kind of girl who would still believe in Santa Claus.

You know Luna does seem to see things much more clearly at times then anyone else, like at the wedding where she saw through the polyjuice potion. Maybe when she talks about the nargles and wrackspurt its really her sensing magic.
