Are we too old to still read the Harry Potter books? Are we turning into otaku?

What's otaku, precious?
No, don't think so. The whole purpose of printing adult editions (with a less childish cover as the whole difference) was at least here so that people could read them in public without feeling embarrassed. Liking a book aimed more at children and teenagers only proves that you aren't totally stuck-up and stiff and so old you can't appreciate some fun, IMO.

It's a crazy fan more common in anime lovers and people who read comics/graphic novels

Then I guess we may well appear to be otaku to some people. Not to ourselves though.

Ah, thanks. While I have read some comics over time, I was never a manga and anime fan and am not too familiar with the expressions coming with them.
Yeah, for many we are probably just that, but who cares what strangers think, as long as we have fun?

We will never be too old for Harry Potter. Ever. We can keep re-reading the books and writing new fanfiction and we will keep enjoying them. There are plenty of adult themes and ideas in those books, and I refuse to give up one of the few things that I can enjoy without stressing about just because people might think I'm immature.

I'm definitely not- I'm only 13! However, I don't think there *IS* an age for literature. Just an aim, thought who knows who will get hit. JKR was just such a good archer, she hit multiple targets while aiming for one!

... Have you read some discussions on here? While physically some of us are old, well, we're just at the right age to read HP mentally.

The people who think that reading is childish... are childish We're obsessed with an awesome book series/movies... tell me the name of 1 person that's not obsessed with something (my friend called me weird for being obsessed with HP, then I called her weird about being obsessed with celebrities )

You're never too old for Harry Potter. My friends and I all love the series. Harry Potter isn't childish, even with the original covers because so many people have read the series. My mum still readsthe series sometimes Besides reading the books really helped with my English grades so I say that you're never too old to love Harry Potter.

Hmm... I'm a member of a non-reading family. My family reads, but they don't read Harry Potter. They've teased me in several years for like HP, and think that I'm now to old for that 'shit', and I then started to be defensive. But lately, I've refused to stand for their teasing anymore. I like Harry Potter. And my brother and father like soccer... Are in fact obsessed with that sport, and I don't tease them about that. I think that if I ever get children, that HP will be one of the books I will read for them.
I've always been kind of the black sheep in the family. I know my family loves me, and yeah.. But I'm pretty different from the bunch.

Cool, I've been trying to get my friends to read the books, but it's all, "It's too long." (I rolled my eyes at that one) Or "The translated books are never fun." (I wholeheartedly agreed and suggested English version... and got punched in the shoulder..) Or "I've watched the movies!" (I had a fit at that one..) or "It's kinda boring..." (you will be pleased to note that we are no longer friends...)

LOL - nicely described! Has to be so annoying when you can't talk about HP properly with your friends. They remind me of my brother, who's avoiding books like the plague.

I never think we are too old for Harry Potter. As long as we enjoy the books and films you can never be too old. And wasn't the whole point of publishing it with different covers so that it was enjoyed by a wider audience? I know that I will enjoy Harry Potter even when I'm 78 or older!!!!!!HARRY POTTER RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think that you can be too old for anything, after all, I still sometimes read Judy Moody, Bunnicula, and/or The Candy Apple Series when I'm feeling down... as long as you like it, what does it matter?
