So this idea has been brewing in my head for awhile.
So we all have issues with a certain characters death. So my question is, if you could pick one characters death in exchange for another characters, of equal importance who would it be?
Like for mw, I would actually be willing to trade Hagrid for sirius.

Does it have to be death? What about the Longbottoms?

I'd trade Rodolphus Lestrange for Mr Longbottom, Rabastan Lestrange for Mrs Longbottom, Greyback for Remus, Dolohov for Fred and Rookwood for Tonks.

I've always said that I would trade Fred for Ron. Mostly because I hate Ron (Sorry Ron fans!), also because it would be way more problematic and a bigger plot device if the Golden boys best friend died, rather then the Golden Boys best friends brother. Also, I'd trade Severus for Winky (She's pretty sad...)... Then Remus for Fenir Greyback (GO away stupid bad wolf who made MY good wolf a wolf!) Lastly I'd take Sirius for hm..... I don't know, let's go with Cho.

Ron just rubbed me the wrong way... Always making horrible, insensitive comments that do nothing to help. Yes, he has his amazing moments, but mostly I don't like him. I'm getting better at liking him though

True, but Harry's not an idiot. Neither is Neville, Fred, or George.

Lucius for Mrs. Lovegood. I always wonder if she is the same as Luna or if she waa normal and make things more realistic. I don't know how to word it right, but I hope you get what I'm trying to say.

*twitches* To defend Ron or just let it go...
Dammit. Alright, so Ron is really not so much of an idiot than he seems. I mean, remember in COS how he was the one to realize the COS entrance was in Myrtle's bathroom. And that he faced his fear of SPIDERS, GIANT FUCKING SPIDERS, to save his best friend. And Fred and George are just as idiotic as Ron. Sorry to say so, but they are. Sure they came up with prank products that were ingenious, but they can be downright mean when they want. Remember the Montague incident in OOTP? I'm still of the opinion that they left Montague with some kind of head-damage which they brushed off. And then in PS they ignore Harry and treat him horribly at age 11 for losing house points, which is rich coming from them. And while some people like to say they didn't, I have to say they did because Harry said only Neville, Hermione and Ron stood by him, he'd have mentioned Ron's brothers as well.
And this is probably something many people don't consider, Harry was thinking what Ron would say quite a few times. The reason I say don't consider, is because you can brush it off as being "Thinking is different than saying" but it's really not.
Harry was raised by the Dursleys, who pretty much punished him for everything he did. Saying something that can be deemed rude or insulting in that household would be a sure fire way to earn a punishment. If he'd been raised by Sirius however, Sirius would have encouraged Harry to be outspoken about his thoughts, to say what he felt like and not be ashamed about it.
At the same time, Ron was raised in a family with six siblings. He learned that to be heard, you be loud. A verbal filter was not needed because everyone in the Weasley family was just comfortable fighting and being expressive about their immediate thoughts. If say, he'd been raised by his Auntie Muriel, Ron would be the quiet one who just thinks the mean thoughts because I bet Muriel would be an advocate for corporal punishment.
Alright, rant over. (I love Ron, if you couldn't tell)
So, I'd trade Lucius for Sirius, and trade Kreacher for Dobby, and Draco for Fred. Cho for Tonks, and a Patil sister maybe for Mrs. Longbottom. And Seamus for Remus.

If it makes it any better, I loved Ron until the forth book (Thought both he and Hermione made me want to strangle them in the third book. More so Hermione then Ron though.) It was then that he left Harry, and I hated it completely. It didn't make sense, he had been best friends with harry for four years, eh should've realized within that time that Harry hated his fame and wouldn't do something like enter the tournament illegally for more. It didn't help that in the same book he was horrible to Hermione for dating Victor. The sixth book between the two, plus his abandonment and then clear attempts to get on Hermione's good side again basically was him digging his own grave on my hate list. As I said, I'm slowly beginning to be more understanding of him and like him a bit more, but it'll take awhile.
Anyways, I do agree with you on some points of Fred and George. In PS, I think that they did ignore Harry (After all, didn't the whole Quidditch team just refer to him as 'The Seeker'?) Which was, as you said, a bit rich. At that point though, they didn't know Harry very well and, in their opinion, Harry lost points for being horrible at sneaking around and for no reason. Every time they've lost points, it's been for a prank, or probably the occasional actual snide remark or such. Still not right of them, but I understand their reasoning. After all, as Ron said- they never lost 150 points in one go.

*Looks hopeful* I can live with you not liking Ron but coming back to him. I think it all depends on the fics you read. If you read bashes, you'll end up not liking any of the characters. And if you read fics that glorify the character's you'll like them. The whole Viktor thing though is more jealousy than anything which I can understand, and Hermione's not much better with the whole Lavender thing. Seriously, attacking him with birds.
I was going to write a long defensive piece, but I just posted in the RP thread and I'm all typed out at the moment and my mind's there not here.

Hermione's not perfect either, I agree, but she's at least more loyal, and she knows when she needs to do something, to help Harry even if it hurts her (E.G. Third book with the Firebolt, it annoyed me how she told McGonagall, but it was a good choice.) Ron and Harry hated her for it, but she stuck with it, because she knew that she'd rather Harry be safe. Hermione didn't wallow in her own sadness in the seventh book and abandon Harry. She cried, but she stayed and helped.
Anyways, I don't like bashing of any character. I can read about other's faults, but I dislike out right bashing (EXCEPT of Umbridge. That I enjoy.). Glory fics annoy me too.

Hermione's loyal sure, but she's manipulative. She twists Harry to follow her ideas, like the DA and automatically assumes he's against her when he disagrees. So I guess while she's loyal, she's not exactly perfect either.
I dislike bashes too, but I can enjoy Umbridge and Lucius bashing. Glory fics annoy me unless it's done to be a crackfic.

I'm OK with bashes, as long as the bashing is done in moderation, and as long as Lucius isn't being bashed. He's one of my favourite characters.

Never said Hermione was perfect. Anyways, she doesn't think 'oh I'm going to make them believe', it's just how she is. She's determined and very strong-willed, which in some instances can be a good thing, though it can cause trouble like with S.P.E.W and the Crookshanks and Scabbers issue from the third book. I'm iffy on the D.A issue, I'm going to re-read the books soon, I'm getting rusty.

I like Hermione, don't get me wrong, but I just had a phase where I really hated her for a few days (I go through them depending on what I'm writing or reading) and it's still lingering.

I don't know who I'd exchange, but I know it would be Death Eaters for various characters who died. I wouldn't be able to stand if any of the Weasley's died, even Percy.
I really like Percy and Hermione as characters, even though I know a lot of people don't. They're the ones with personalities most like mine, so I find them to be the ones I can relate to the most.

Same here, Percy was the Weasley I liked the least. Too pompous and stuck-up even before he turned his back on the family. So totally not my type. If a Weasley has to die, then I'd prefer him.

I would probably trade a Patil twin for Fred (twin for twin, Death would be satisfied with that, no? Equal pain).
I would trade Winky for Dobby, because I quite like Kreacher and winky is so damn depressed it's annoying. She's not going to get any happier.
I know it's horrible, but Minerva would take Snape's place (in my world).
I wouldn't swap anybody for Dumbledore. I like him dead.
For Sirius, I'm really not sure, as I refuse to kill any preciouses and I like Hagrid more than him. Actually, Umbridge. Perfect.
The Carrows can take Remus and Tonks' places.
