Why Leroy Jethro Gibbs Should Never know about magic before his coffee: NCIS reads books 4-7
Gibbs looked over at the small, slightly battered desk that had only been used for a year before it quickly became unoccupied once more, and wished he had coffee. That strange British boy with the messy black hair and the startling green eyes left a few days ago, but the desk was still as cluttered as the day he first showed up. Sighing, Gibbs looked over the paperwork that was on his desk one last time before deciding that something had to be done about that desk.
"DiNozzo!"
"Yeah Boss?" The reply from his senior field agent came quickly, causing Gibbs to smirk. Tony would always be Tony.
"Clean out Potter's desk. Someone else may want to use it."
There was silence on Tony's end, as if he did not understand the directions given.
"Did I stutter, DiNozzo?" Gibbs growled after letting the silence gather for a few minutes.
"No Boss!"
Tony scurried to the desk with a box and started packing. It was quite amusing to watch a grown man grumble about having to clean up after someone else, Gibbs thought. Apparently, he wasn't the only one.
"Having trouble Tony?" McGee asked as he arrived from his break.
"Shut it, McSmart Mouth," Tony threw a trash bag at McGee. "Help me with this. Potter was a slob and apparently forgot to pack up when he went back to London."
"Explains why you got along well," Ziva quipped as she too walked into the bullpen, as McGee walked over to help Tony out. They'd all been at their wits end due to the lack of murders for the past few weeks. Tony had finished all his paperwork--that's how bad it was.
"That, and you were obsessed over his accent."
"Men do not obsess Zi-va," Tony told her, not even looking up from what he was doing but instead fixated on a drawer that wouldn't open. "Hey, Agent David? You got a lock pick?"
Ziva did not respond, but instead tossed said lock pick case at Tony. Tony didn't even look up as he caught it and opened it up in order to open the lone drawer in the desk of one Harry Potter. The minute the lock clicked, the drawer flung itself open and knocked over both Tony and McGee.
"The hell?" Tony exclaimed as he got up. The light faded and Tony looked inside only to find four books.
"Books?" McGee raised an eyebrow in speculation. Gibbs had even given up pretending to look over his paperwork to see what was going on. "What's this about?"
"Should we show Abby?" Ziva inquired. "She would know the best way to tell if they are actual books or...."
Gibbs cut her off with a look, knowing what the former Mossad agent was going to imply. "They're not explosives. For one, Potter wouldn't have worked here long if he was a spy."
"Yeah Ziva, remember when he tried to lie to Gibbs?" Tony asked. "His innocent face sucks!"
Ziva did not respond, but instead picked the books up and examined the first one. It was a thick paperback with a blue and green dustcover, with the picture of four people on the front. "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?"
"What?" Gibbs demanded.
"That's what the title says," Ziva told her boss, turning it around as to show the rest of them the cover. "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." She went through all the other books as Gibbs was looking at the first one. "All of these are about Harry. Maybe we should read them."
"Read a book?" Tony scoffed. "What if a murder occurs?"
"Tony, there have been no murders for the past three weeks," Ziva tried to reason with him. Her Mossad training was kicking in, even if she wasn't part of the group, and she needed to know more information about one Harry Potter. "We'll take it down to Abby and Ducky."
"Ducky was the only one who liked Potter," Tony grumbled as they climbed into the elevator. "Well, and Abby but she likes everyone except her lab assistents.
"Explains why you spent so much time with him on cases," McGee retorted. Tony made to retort but one look from Gibbs made it die on his lips. No one knew why Tony now was expressing hatred for the Brit when they had been inseparable during the year Harry had been there with them. The elevator opened and Team Gibbs walked into Autopsy where, for some reason, Abby was chatting Ducky's ear off.
"Ah Jethro!" Ducky smiled. "What brings you down here? After all, there've been no murders for me to determine cause of death for."
"This, Duck," Gibbs handed the book to Ducky. "Abs, why are you down here?"
"Got bored," Abby said with a smile and Gibbs nodded in understanding. When Ducky was done examining the book, he said "Perhaps we should read it. It would save the Director time from preventing Ziva and Anthony from killing one another."
"True," Gibbs nodded, ignoring the cries of protest. "Duck, you want to read first?"
"Certainly," Ducky nodded as he pulled out a chair. Abby and Tony found spots on the autopsy tables, Ziva was leaning by the sink, McGee was perched on Ducky's desk and Gibbs was standing by Ducky's chair. Jimmy, it seemed, had taken the day off.
"Chapter One," Ducky began.
