Forcing someone to think they love you and taking advantage of them in that state doesn't seem to be a big deal in the Wizarding world well at least until your rape baby becomes Voldie

Yeah, we know Molly, Ginny and even Hermione giggled about making/using one. Something Hermione, of all people, should be upset with, not laugh about. I know the twins did offer some in thehr shop, but I hope they at least made them in a way that it was clearly shown it was only a prank ... I'd prefer them not to sell that sort of stuff myself.
It just shows once again that the whole justice system and the feeling for what's right and wrong is completely messed up.

We know from that love potion that any person could use it on say Hermione and that love potion will use her love for Ron to attract Hermione to the person using the spell on her. It does sound like a horrible thing to do to a person.

I think with Hermione it was a huge plot hole but yes, I do agree it's like date rape. Hell, in my story it's illegal to use one. Some people pointed out the twins sold them, but I think theirs was a bit more like muggle aphrodisiacs. It doesn't force you to be in love, but perhaps it makes you notice people in ways you would never have noticed them before.

I think the twins' potions actually would actually go the other direction. What you describe is a pretty subtle thing, and you might never realize that you'd been under the influence of a potion like that. Any decision you made under the influence you might think you'd made with a clear mind, when in fact, you hadn't. I think the twins' potions should cause a reaction so extreme that it's quite obvious that they are under the influence of something (this is why it is a prank product). It probably would also be short-acting.

Yeah, I always thought they'd add a twist that shows clearly it is a prank. It's in their nature, after all.

I've always thought it acted a bit like the movie Shallow Hal, how the man is forced to ignore the looks of the girl, and see her for how she actually is.
I've always seen it as if a girl who had terrible acne took the twins stuff, suddenly the people wouldn't be staring at her acne all the time, and they could notice she had a beautiful smile, or lovely eyes, etc. It doesn't force you to do something, it simply allows you to see past someone's rough edges.

I like that interpretation. Ha, Harry would love that, then, as it would force them to see beyond the BWL fame

I don't think so. The only person who considers that a negative aspect is Harry. To most people, that would be like saying "I hate my smile, it's just too beautiful." It's not a negative aspect, the only reason it is negative is because Harry is a bit of an idiot when it comes to fame.

I know it says that Molly, Ginny, and Hermione giggled at the thought of Molly using a love potion and some use that to assume those three used it on their significant other. We don't know the context of the story so it isn't fair to judge those three on one mistake.
I do think love potions can lethal if it isn't abused. Merope abused hers and it caused her husband to abandon her. The twins' potions were probably weaker so overtime people probably got tolerant of it.
I'm going to get attacked so badly on these viewpoints, but I had to get my two cents in.

Well in the books it was pretty obvious that Ron had taken the love potion from Romilda Vane although I think it says that love potions get stronger the longer somebody leaves them lying around. But on the whole we just have to accept that wizards deal with a lot more dangerous stuff than we do. Most likely there are laws against love potions like there is a law against the imperious. And in the end it is the same result. Both things take away your free will away.
