Alice couldn't understand why she felt disappointed by Marigold's inclusion, but she smiled tightly. Then again, when he let go of her hand at the mention of Marigold. Octavius said he'd never be interested, reminded a small voice in her head. She tried comforting herself with that that thought.
"It's especially pleasant in the autumns, the leaves begin to change colors," she said, distracting herself, "And the children return to school, so it's not too crowded. It'll be a nice change of scene from the cold battle front."

"It's simple." Maxwell said, before summoning his favorite deck of cards to him. "We each take half the deck and lay down cards according to number. At first, it's easy. But as you rid yourself of more cards, it becomes necessary to lie. If you think the other person is lying, you shout 'bullshit'. If you're right, they take all the cards you laid down. If you're wrong, you take them."

Alice dealt the cards out slowly. She shuffled them with her utmost concentration. "I used to play card games with the patients in the Hospital Wing during my Hogwarts day when I helped the nurse," she said as she dealt, "Mostly we played Exploding Snap." The cards were now dealt, and she began organizing her hand.

"My favorite childhood memory?" He asked, raising his brow. Either he was really bad at card games, or she was a lot craftier than she let on. Or maybe a bit of both. "Well, I suppose I'd have to say my return home after my first year of Hogwarts. My parents were so proud of me, and made sure to coddle me needlessly that whole summer. I had never seen them so blissful before."

Alice smiled at the story, though it falterred as she remembered her first summer. "That sounds wonderful. I can just see you being coddled," she said warmly, "It must have been so nice, and peaceful like that. My turn again, I guess. Two twos."
