"You got me," she said with a laugh, taking the cards, "Alright, ask away."

Maxwell grinned. "Hm...any question, huh? In that case...what is your fondest memory? It can be from any time or place."

Alice considered it for a minute. Her fondest memory. Slowly she smiled and said, "When I was six, it was Christmas time My parents were working late, and it was Christmas eve. I had gone for a walk to the neighbor's, and was miserable all day because nobody was there to play with. That night I fell asleep, and woke up during the middle of the night and went to get some water. And lo and behold, Santa was by the tree! Later I realized it was my father, Santa doesn't have dark hair of course, but I made Santa promise to have my parents be there for Christmas, and as if by magic, it happened. We spent all Christmas week together, singing carols, and opening presents. We baked, and I felt so spoiled, having both my parents just to myself for that week."

"It seems we both have fond memories of being coddled." Maxwell said placidly. "If looks are anything, you were an adorable child."

"You think I'm adorable looking?" asked Alice in surprise, and then blushed, realizing the question was inappropriate. "I mean, er, thank you."

Maxwell's own face flushed a little bit. Did I really just say that out loud? Well, in for a penny, in for a pound. "Yes, I do. You're a very lovely woman, surely you've noticed?" He laid down two cards. "Two fives."

"Thank you," she said, "You're one of the first to compliment me so directly.
Completely embarrassed and pleased, Alice put down four cards, not even looking at them as she blushed, "Three sixes, no four sixes." she said, flustered.

Maxwell chuckled. "You're very welcome. And that, my dear, is bullshit again." Inwardly, he was confused. Why wouldn't anyone have come up and told her that before. Surely, she had plenty of suitors in school?

"I guess that one was obvious," she said with a laugh, "So, what's the question this time?"

"How many suitors have you had?" He asked, curious. "I think it is only fair, since you found out how many women I've slept with in the past.

Alice blushed again. It was a fair question.
"Twl," she said awkwardly. "But both were short-lived. The first was when I was thirteen, he was fourteen. We went to Hogsmeade once because everyone seemed to be doing it. The second was when I was sixteen. We dated for a little over three months, before breaking up."

"Well, now we're on equal footing." Maxwell said pleasantly, as he laid down four cards. "Four nines." Inwardly, he was surprised. Why wouldn't Alice have had more people interested in her? She deserved a lot more than just two that didn't work out in the end.

"Two tens," she said laying down her cards, while inwardly disagreeing with Maxwell completely. I've kissed a boy less then ten times, you've had twelve women as bed partners. I'm much less experienced than you.

"One seven." he said, laying it down. "

"Bullshit," she said, trying to scan her cards for the fourth seven she knew she had, didn't she?

"Well, you caught me." he said, taking the pile. He now had quite a few cards, much to his annoyance. "So, what do you want to know?"

"You know what age I had my first relationship, but I don't know yours," Alice said, wondering if this was still in the clause of fair and boundaries.

Maxwell thought about it. "I was fifteen at the time. They did another Triwizard Tournament and a Yule Ball came because of it. I asked a girl named Denise Smith out, and we connected. It only lasted a few months, though."

Alice nodded. It made sense he'd started dating around the same time as she did. "That sounds lovely," she said, "The Tournament and Ball. Three eights."

"It was, until I goofed it up. Apparently, when a girl asks 'does this make me look fat' you're supposed to lie." He chuckled at his little blunder."Two jacks."

"You live and learn, though I doubt I'll be coming to you for advice on clothing," said Alice, chuckling herself, "I never had that problem. For me, it was always I seemed to distant. Three queens."

"Bullshit." he said, scanning his cards. "I have two of them." He frowned at Alice. "Why would they say that? You may be shy, but you're a very nice person."

"Is that the fact you want to know, or just a generic question?" asked Alice, picking up the cards, "I'll answer both, just curious."

"It's not that big of a deal," said Alice biting her lip nervously, "My parents were very secretive people. They didn't like outsiders, and tended to discourage me interacting too closely with outsiders. They were always so consumed in their work, so it got lonely, but it wasn't too bad. But when boys would ask me things about my home, I didn't have many answers, so they thought I was keeping secrets too."

Maxwell's eyes narrowed. From what he had heard of Alice's parents, he greatly disliked them. They had left their daughter to a lifetime of debt, which would have wound up with her being hurt if he hadn't stepped in. He was glad they were dead - she didn't need people like that in her life. But, he occluded those thoughts and feelings away, not wanting to further alienate her. "I see. Well, I'm sorry you had to live like that. But we're changing that now, aren't we?" He smiled at her, hoping to ease her worries a bit.
Deep in the back of his mind, Maxwell wondered why he cared so much about that.

"We are," said Alice with a soft smile, "I don't think I've ever been this close with anyone. I guess things are changing." She smiled up at Maxwell as she said this, "Your turn now."

"I hope so," said Alice with a smile, "Three fives."
In truth, she knew so. Her entire life had always been so sheltered and restricted, snd now she was falling in love, she was healing, she was free. What more could she ask for?

Maxwell knew she was bluffing, but decided to let her off the hook. "Two twos." He said, laying them down. "I know so, Alice. You're with us now, and that means having to put up with Cassalina's fashion sense, Octavius' immaturity and Veronica's...unique charm. Think you can handle that?"
