Has anyone ever noticed that in GOF, the yule ball scene Percy mentions that Rita Skeeter was BUZZING around a lot? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a sign of her animagus form? Plus doesn't that mean that the Ministry knew about her animagus form? Or is it just coincidences?

I'm sure it was just a coincidence, because she would have been arrested for being an illegal animagus, as hermione checked and she wasn't registered. It's also a pretty clever case of foreshadowing on jkr's part

I think it was just a case of foreshadowing as well. JKR had a lot of that in her books such as in book two it was pointed out by an author of a RtB that there was a lot of mentions of eyes throughout the book and a few other thing's that I can't remember right now.

Foreshadowing, I'd say. IF Mr. Rules-are-everything-in-life Percy had known she was an illegal Animagus, he'd have tried to get her arrested and complained to everyone who stood still long enough to listen if he didn't get his will because it was the law, IMO.

Oh yeah, it was definitely foreshadowing. Percy would have got a kick out of it, if he had discovered she was an illegal Animagus, so he could be responsible of throwing her in jail.
After all... It would have been a nice thing to get noticed for catching an Animagus for Percy.

Sometimes I think that maybe the Ministry could have used it as blackmail, she does what they want or she goes to prison..

And imagine she'd said something nasty about his adored Mr. Crouch or later Fudge ... he'd have been so pleased to stop the one who slandered his heroes!

Oh yes. Percy would have been in heaven. Then they could have probably learned his real name.

IMO I doubt Skeeter was known by the ministry, and I'm still skeptical about how Hermione figured it out. It's just, I know she's smart, but that seemed OOC/too-good-to-be-true. Skeeter's been doing this for years, to be outed by a fourteen-year old girl? I just don't buy into that part much. Though it was a great plot device, it was by far my least favorite part of the book.

Oh yes. I often wonder how a fifteen-year old girl managed to figure it out.

Exactly! It's a little, ugh. I mean, I know you can say the Basilisks, but that was different. By then she knew what exactly the creature was, researched it for months, and then put together the scenario to the pipes by going over the clues. This was, oh my gosh! I remember a bug! It's Skeeter! There was no real story involved with this.

I always thought it was kind of more of a theory, and when she caught the beetle in the hospital wink she caught it because it was a possibility. Then, when she took a good look later, she saw the glasses marks around the eyes.

Yeah, the Basilisks made sense, since Hermione probably researched every detail she remembered from the attacks, although I some times think it's ridiculous that a thirteen year old girl managed to find time to research what kind of a monster it was, unlike the teachers. Shouldn't the almighty Dumbledore and McGonagall be able to figure it out after six months.
Yeah, the bug annoyed me. Did it suddenly click in Hermione's brain, wait... There was a bug when Victor invited me. I think that's Hermione's only time she saw the bug. I doubt Harry and Ron would tell her that a bug was there when Hagrid told Madame Maxime about his giant-mother, and the open window in Divination.

Dumbledore should have figured it out long ago, indeed. He knew when Myrtle died, right? And he should know more about magical creatures than a second-year. Pitiful, really.
Didn't they watch Malfoy talk to his hand, too? When he was probably holding Rita? Though I admit, it was a bit far-fetched that Hermione figured this out, too.

Weren't they standing far away, and didn't see what Malfoy talked with? But Hermione had only seen the bug once..

Yes, but maybe she connected the dots. She never bothers to explain anything to Ron and Harry, never mind us poor readers.

Yeah, that's true... I wish that Hermione had blackmailed Rita to never write a story again, instead just stick with a year.
