Seriously?
I haven't checked back on her story yet... but that's just dumb...

Or a complete lack of faith in ff.net to post the story correctly.
I think people fail to read them simply because one to many authors use them as a blog rather than post relevant information to the story. The amount of times the AN has been little more than a three hundred word essay on the eating habits of their pet cat is ridiculous.

Though one would think that they would read them if they are rare to see in a person's story.
I agree, unbeastly. They should name them Blog's rather than a/n. If I see stories like that, I admit that I don't read the a/n because they take away from the story...

I tend to stop reading the stories altogether when I realise they've clearly spent more time on the AN then the chapter they've just posted.

Can't say I blame you, seeing what that says about the quality of the chapter.

The strange thing is that I once read a fic where the author was writing whole stories in her author's notes. And reading them was a lot funnier than the actual chapter... ;D Maybe those writer's should rather start writing original stories than fanfiction?

My favourite AN is when they have conversations with the characters. A particular favourite is a Doctor Who fic written by Jessa L'Rynn and Olfactory-Ventriloquism where they are trying to get the 9th Doctor to sign his ownership rights over to them and random Doctors turn up and distract them.

It looks like FFN already deleted Shopaholic again, despite the author cutting out original text. Of course, reposting a popular stories with already over 90 reviews after 4 chapters is delete-worthy, but the crap is still allowed to stay. They really know how to drive their users away ...
