I want to bang my head against a wall every time I read a fic were the Weasleys steal money and Harry says "I don't care about the money. Let the Weasleys keep it since they need it."
First off they obviously aren't as poor as they make themselves out to be since They Have Been Stealing From You!
Second, they have been betraying you by stealing from you so stop thinking of them as people who are sweet, loving, and generous. Cause they definately were not any of those things when they acted your friend to get money!

Come on Harry! I wouldn't be nice toward a friend who steals money from me, and Harry isn't a ... Gary Stu? I don't know what they call male Mary Sue's, but yeah. He's easily angered, and stealing money would be betraying his trust, and trust is one of the things he values most.
I could see him though think or say: "Why didn't they just ask me?" or something like that.

He would gladly share with them, but I don't see him taking stealing that carelessly. As Chamy said, that's a serious trust issue. Plus, what would that imply about the sincerity of their friendship?
Overall, it's not just the stealing that would annoy me. Personally, I think even canon Harry is too forgiving *cough*SnapeDumbledore*cough* and prefer fanfics where he kicks some butts and doesn't take everything lying down. Writing him being too nice is one way to drive me off a story, it's just too annoying. There are stories that are even worse than that. For instance, when Hermione is bossing him around and tells him what to eat, what to read, what to study etc., and he can't do anything without her. That's not even being nice any longer, he just comes off weak.

I just clicked on a story called harry finds out the truth and when he found out the Weasleys stole the first words out of his mouth was "I don'tcare about the money"
It pissed me off. I don't know how many fics I've read that he says something like that after finding out the theft.
I'm okay with the ones were the weasleys thought the money came from Dumbles as a loan to pay for school. To me that is not wrong of them, but flat out knowing theft just pisses me off.

This is the problem you get when a fandom is dominated by thirteen year old kids. It's one of the reason's I only really read fics recomended by authors I like.

Oh yes. The fandoms are often dominated by thirteen year old. And since most of them can never manage complete a multi-story, I mostly read completed stories.

So true. My main fandom is dominated by adults - many authors I know are 50+ - and it shows in the dedication to and quality of their stories. Back when I started reading fanfiction, I tried HP first and gave up pretty soon - unreadable. Then I went to read LotR. At first, I had some problems finding the right sites and stories, but after finding the right one, I spent a lot of time there. Lately I have been reading a lot of HP again, but I keep wishing for a HP site with the same quality as I am used to from LotR ... On FFN there are so many bad stories, and it's very hard to find the few good ones.

If you have found an author you enjoy look at their favourites on their profile page. Decent author's tend to have decent taste in stories and I've found many a good fic this way.

Actually, I've been doing that a lot already. Not always agreeing with them, of course, but I made some great finds that way.

Yeah .. I probably should start to go through my favorites. I'm pretty sure that a few of them are terrible, since when I just started to read I was terrible at English, and in turn couldn't see the mistakes. I find myself more and more annoyed, as I get better to English.
But well... I'm to tired to go through that many stories I've put on favorites.

The main problem with FFN is that they seem to delete the good stories and leave the bad ones. That, too It's like with the RtB stories, just on a larger scale. Already given up on a lot of stories and scanning certain lists for interesting new titles, I am just too frustrated with them.

Another thing you can do is look through the most popular communities. I've found a lot of good fics like that.

Yeah, I use communities too. There's bad fics too, but now I think most of the stories seem to be the same ones... I just recognize the summary sometimes.

Yeah, when you look through the RtB communities, you find always the same stories. With the others, I still have to really try it - didn't have time for it.

Exactly. Right now I mostly read romance-fic's, mainly because I don't know. The genre changes all the time, but right now I completely adore Lily&James and Ron&Hermione.

One thing that's really hard to find is good, original AU stories. It seems like everything I find is cliche or badly written.
