Ah, UK. Heh... happens for us every July 4th, instead of Nov. 5th... but if you're near someplace like Disneyland... you get them nightly, at the same bloody 9:30pm time. Ahem. Have fun!

Can I send my cousin over? Years ago her family came for an event that was supposed to end with a huge fireworks and she was so excited for the latter. Then she fell asleep halfway through and we couldn't wake her up - she slept through the whole noise, despite sitting close by! So, this year another try. This time we got through a bit over half the show before a huge thunderstorm with torrential rain broke loose and they had to stop for the first time in 60 years. No fireworks, again. Poor kid was so disappointed!

It's an English holiday because its all about guy Fawkes tring to blow up the Houses of Parliament, isn't it? Makes sense it's just us that has the holiday.

speaking of Guy Fawkes, there's something on the Yesterday history channel that has relatives researching their family history and finding that they are actually related to him.

Somehow I doubt here many would even know who Guy Fawkes was or that the UK has to thank him for Bonfire night. Here it doesn't exist. The only day where we always have fireworks is when we greet the new year. Otherwise, there are some occasions - usually special events - where they are done, but that's then limited to one place and done by specialists.

Yeah, it's a very British tradition and story and its quite sad that you can't do your own fireworks! It's great to have parties where people set them off.

I hate Fireworks we have a little dog and he gets himself so upset...why do we celebrate the fact that he failed to Blow up parliament by setting off fireworks anyway it is rather contradictory.

It's all about the fact that he didn't manage to do it, and the whole gunpowder plot=fireworks thing to be honest, I think we just needed a new reason to party.

We celebrate Guy Fawkes here in New Zealand too, but then it wasn't that long ago that we stopped just being another British colony.

Hmm. We only have firework in New Years Eve... Some people start to shoot off a couple days before and after New Year, soeh.
That's the only time we celebrate with firework. There's of course some days where firework happens, but it isn't often. It's mostly when someone has a wedding or birthday or something like that.

This year wasn't as bad as previous years with the amount of fireworks that was going off. I've got three cats, if it was close enough to the house the firework, they seem to be on alert.
