So what house do you think Umbridge was in? I've heard both huffelpuff or Sylthrin. Personally I think Sylthrin because she is very selfpreserving.

Slytherin... No question about it. As you said, she is quite self-persevering, and she certainly is not brave, particularly intelligent, or hardworking and loyal.

I think she could have been in either. She is loyal to Fudge and the ministry, and worked hard on those laws she wrote, but she does show lots of Slytherin attributes too.

I think her prejudice against muggleborns could also suggest a Slytherin connection, and I also think that the fact she only treats Slytherin students well during the fifth book could be a clue too. Although I can't really see her being liked in any house she would be placed in... I guess we'll find out in pottermore year 5

If she was even remotely as evil in her own youth, I can't really see her as a Hufflepuff. Remember Malfoy's attituce about being placed in Hufflepuff? I can totally see her thinking along the same lines. Slytherin seems more likely. She may be loyal to Fudge, but I suspect a selfish purpose behind it. He was the one making her Senior Undersectretary, I suspect, and maybe she thought she could inherit his job? And as EskimoRock said - she's favouring the Snakes way too much.

I agree with what Kitty says about her loyalty toward Fudge, i highly doubt she was actually loyal toward him, she was probably more attracted to the power he could give her.

For me, I really hope she was a Hufflepuff. Slytherin has way too many bad guys in it already. Besides Reggie and Severus, I hate my house. Well, besides the crazies that keep me entertained But I think while she shows Slytherin characteristics, her blinding loyalty (I mean, she supported Fudge until his very end when she could have been supporting a Malfoy or someone else with power) and her dedication (That entire hem hem and her sickly sweet appearance) are hufflepuff characteristics.

I would like to point out Eskimo we can't know for sure if she was really against muggles or just following the views of the ministry at the time. I wouldn't surprise me if she switched because of that.

I'm more inclined to go for Hufflepuff personally, partly because I too am fed up of all the evil people (sans Peter) being in Slytherin, but also because she does have some of the traits that Helga looked for. She did support Fudge, even though it must have been obvious that people like Dumbledore and Malfoy had the real power, and she continued to support him throughout his term. Also, she might have been completely evil, but she did work extremely hard. Think of all the effort she put into being Inquisitor and trying to expel Harry and finding ways to defeat Dumbledore. It's just a shame that all of those goals were completely twisted and wrong.

I think she could have easily been a Hufflepuff. Her loyalty was absolute first to Fudge and then to Voldermort's puppet minister. She would of had to have been hardworking to get to her position and get her bills passed. As for her attitude towards half-breeds she would have considered her laws as being just rather than prejudice. So yes I'd go for Hufflepuff over Slytherin.

I can't see her in any other house, other than Hufflepuff. She's loyal to Fudge and to herself. You don't have to be in Slytherin to be cunning. Slytherin might have prided to be cunning, but you have to be even more cunning to be placed in a different house - people will not expect it.
