Can someone please explain to me the obsession this fandom has with three or more people in a relationship. I swear every other story I've read has this pairing and it drives me up the wall.
I've got no problem with multiple people in a relationship just that so few authors write it well. The majority of the time is just seems that the author couldn't decide on a pairing so decided just to write as many as possible. Even worse they think it makes Harry even cooler to have more than one partner.
No other fandom I've read seems as obsessed or is it just a teen fan thing as from what I can tell that seems to be the majority of these authors.

Some of the ones I've read are quite good, and while I know that a few authors do write stories about things they wish would happen to them, others have plots or ideas that seem to end up requiring Harry to have more than one partner, even if they don't intend for that to happen when they start writing.

I've noticed that most of the one I've read that has Harry paired with two male ocs or with one canon male and an oc male are usually better than any of the fics I've read with more than one girl. There is of few exceptions but to me it seems the authors who write multiple pairings of males are better written than the multiple girls.

The ones I've read tend towards two or more woman falling at his feet and worshipping the ground he walks on. It's unrealistic and quite frankly unreadable, it's ruined a fair few stories for me.

Believe me, you aren't the only one. That amount of harem stories is grating on my nerves - had to give up (or not even start) interesting stories because of it. It's totally unrealistic, and like you, I suspect the authors just can't decide on the pairing.
What irritates me equally is the tendency to excuse the whole concept with Harry being heir to umpteen noble houses, being forced to marry one woman per house, just to excuse it. They give him ridiculously long hypenated names, too. I'm sorry, but that's usually the point when I ditch a story.
Tied into that - why on earth do so many have to either kill Sirius off, even if they change the story from canon, or make him impotent, just so that they can make Harry Lord Potter-Black and excuse at least a second wife?

What annoys me is when an author has a really good plot, and then just has to make harry have a harem. It doesn't help that it usually involves hermione, which seems very unrealistic because she is highly unlikely tondo something like that, and fleur, who they seem to add just because she's beautiful and therefore must not mind that kind of thing. It creeps me out when Gabrielle is involved too, because of the whole fact that she's underage and it usually involves fleur as well, which is just... weird. It never adds anything to the plot line, so it just seems pointless to me. I'll stop reading a story if it starts doing that.

I read one story where Harry ended up with several wives, and it was good because it was so ridiculous. I don't think it was written as anything more than a joke, because the author did categorise it as a humour/romance story. www.fanfiction.net/s/6664994/1/Harry_Potter_and_the_Bride_Wars

It's funny you should mentions those three girls off the bat as I found a story with just those three and Harry. The name of the fic escapes me right now but it was actually well written and I believe they not only made Gabrielle older but added that it had something to do with their inheritance as Veela.
