I've been following this story on my phone and it's been quite good until chapter 9. Both children were abused and in chapter 9 an adult then spanks one of the children for no good reason- to me anyway. I don't want to give the story away so I'm not naming names but do YOU honestly think that spanking abused children is right? I most certainly don't! Is this not going to drive the children further away from the adults? Make them resent the adults? Make the kids think its abuse themselves? Please read the story for yourselves to form an opinion- I haven't read chapter 10 yet because it will give me something to do tonight. www.fanfiction.net/s/8723867/1/The-Black-Heir-First-Year

I can deal with them spanking an abused child if they just put their life in danger but that is the only thing that should get an abused child spanked and I'm not even comfortable with that. What I hate even more is when they order him to take off his pants and underwear, because 'so they can make sure they don't hit too hard and end up hurting them.'
I'm sorry but when my mom and dad spanked me they never needed to take my bottomwear to know if they were hitting me too hard and in my opinion is if they feel that they can't spank an abused child without accidently hurting them than they do not need to spank them at all.
I'm also disgusted when they make them count how many times they are being spanked. I don't know where the idea came that any child would need more than ten and a child should never be spanked more than that. I personally only got spanked ten times once and that was considered a severe punishment in my house, because usuall it was three or five and that deterred me just as well as the ten. Back to the counting that to me feels a little sadistic because it comes off like if they miscount that is going to earn more punishment.
rant over sorry. I was a little put off with one were Sirius was Harry's biological father( James was the mom) and he make it sound that any rule broken will cause spanking(Even for talking when he is talking) and I personally believe that once a child turns ten or so spanking should only be a severe punishment and grounding, writing lines, and sitting in a corner should used then. As for the sitting in the corner I was never punished that way but a friend was and she said that deterred her more than a spanking she said because it was humiliating.
Again rant over sorry.

Yeah, I've been reading a really good rtb but Harry suddenly starts getting spanked for every little thing, I had to stop reading it. It's not helpful behaviour, I think it just makes things worse.

All Harry did in that story was tell Remus and Sirius to shut up as they were both roaring at each other and it was upsetting the Black Heir who had been abused worse then Harry. Remus then spanks Harry for telling them to shut up!

Sounds definitely like a story I won't touch with a ten-foot-pole. Personally, I detest spanking and don't believe it does any good, and to spank an abused child is the worst you can do. Doing it for no good reason would destroy any trust. But some authors seem to love torturing Harry and having him helpless, and by having Sirius or Remus doing it there is no way out. It's something I never understood - why take him away from the Dursleys and give him proper guardians, only to make them no better than the Privet Drive zoo?

I actually sent a review about in and I'm the only one who seems to have pointed it out.

I won't touch that story either, I detest spanking, and will always hit the back button if a story mentions it. I really don't understand why people think spanking anyone does any good. I was never spanked when I got into trouble, just given a slap on the wrist or the back of my hand, and that was it, and I really don't understand what parent or guardian thinks it's a good idea to spank someone, especially someone who lived with people like the Dursleys, like Harry did.

When I first started to read that story it mentioned nothing about spanking. It's only since the last chapter that they added it into it.

I've had an argument with someone about that topic - she firmly believed that it's a sign of deep love to spank your child, and that it's the only way to keep them in line and out of a criminal career. For her spanking Harry would show him that Sirius cared about him.
For me it's more of a sign that the parents aren't good parents ... And her argument that it's in the bible and so it's ok just made me more mad - with all the abuse cases in the church, that's the worst excuse ever.

Is it hell! Let me guess this was that crawford one? She seems hell bent on it.

Right in one! We had some arguments about that topic long before she started writing that story. There's a reason why she's not talking to me any more. Not that I am complaining, mind you

I figured it would be her seeing as how we were talking about her before. That story above really was good until that incident and as for Crawfords- I couldn't even read it.

And I know her opinions too well to even try. Spanking, babying Harry *and* MPREG - that's more than I can stomach.

So far I have seen exactly one story where it worked for me, and that one wasn't in this fandom. But it was a total exception. In most stories, it just doesn't make sense, and it doesn't help that the ones I started reading not knowing what was to come were mostly Harry/Draco - a pairing I can't stand even without any pregnancies.

There was an RTB on FF that got deleted and it had RL/SB as the couple having sex in the great hall behind curtions whilst everyone was reading the bloody book! That was to much for me.

Ugh - that's way too much!!! While I don't really have a problem with this pairing, provided it's well-written, that situation is just impossible, and I can't see them doing that. I'd stopped reading, too!

Plus they were Harry's real parents, I'm glad that it got the ban but who honestly thought it was a good idea to write it? I think Harry was with Victor Krum in it.

I remember that one. It started with book 4 I think. I might be getting it confused with another but didn't it become a crossover with Kingdom hearts.

I'm not sure I think it might have been that. It crossed over with something. Nothing ever made sense in it.

I never understood it myself and eventually had to stop reading it. I mean I played the game that it crossedover with but that's it.

*shakes head* I hate it when people turn HP stories into crossovers with Mangas, that's usually when I stop reading - or, if I know from the beginning, I don't even start reading.

There's only a few crossovers that I'll read: CSI NCIS CHARMED
There's actually one that I love that contains all the CSI's, NCIS, Law & Order and alive potters with the wrong BWL.

And I don't know a single one of these The only other fandom I am into is LotR, and I don't think that one is very compatible with HP.

I like HP crossovered with twilight, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Naruto, LOTR and the X-men.
Does anyone know of a fic where abused!Harry gets spanked and loses trust in the person for doing it? I would really like it if they spanked him for a stupid reason.

The only crossovers I'll read regularly are: Stargate SG-1/Atlantis
I do occasionally also read crossovers with: BtVS/Angel Doctor Who/Torchwood Blade Blackadder Bones Final Fantasy Firefly Pirates of the Caribbean Resident Evil Underworld The Mummy/The Mummy Returns X-Men Star Trek
But I don't read them as often.
