I'd want Mr Bean to visit. I'd love to see how Snape would cope with him.

Now you have given me a very bad image - I was just imagining Glorfindel, Elladan and/or Elrohir marching into the Great Hall and Umbitch saying something about 'filthy half-breds' and what they would do with her in that case! She wouldn't have the foggiest what it means to pick fights with Elven warriors.

Indeed. I mean, honestly, how can a toad be intimidating for the famous balrog-slayer of Gondolin?
That reminds me of a funny crossover oneshot where Lockhart applied for the job of court wizard of Gondor after Gandalf departed ... ;D

You're welcome, Isilarma! Love that one myself, I just wish it was longer. In another of the oneshots in this series Dumbledore got a cameo appearance. Not as hilarious, but still nice.

Aw, that was great, thanks. I can just see Gandalf and Dumbledore and everyone getting together like that, and I loved the bit with Sam and Frodo at the end.
Haha, I just read the one a couple of chapters on with Garfield. This author is brilliant.
Edit: And I love the one where Frodo gets the Harry Potter books! His 'experiments' were hilarious.

Ah yes, had forgotten about the latter. It's been ages since these were posted.
Couldn't agree more - I've been following her stories for over 8 years now and just love them, though most are more serious than these oneshots. Of course, this series is the only one straying from the Tolkien universe, due to the 'Tolkien only and no crossovers' rule, so these oneshots are tiptoeing the line, but if you are interested in the LotR fandom, too, I can recommend her and a few others I've been reading for ages. She's a very nice lady, too.

Sounds good The number of OCs/Mary Sues/Tenth Walker etc fics on ff.net have made me wary of searching there, and I'm running out of good Elrond stories. And non-romance Glorfindel ones come to think of it.

See, and that's why I love Stories of Arda. That sort of fic isn't even allowed there. Nilmandra doesn't allow everyone to post there, they have to prove first that they can write reasonably well. She has been making a number of enemies, from what I have heard, but it pays off. Honestly, at least 95% of FFN wouldn't meet her standards! You may find OCs, but these are Hobbits, Rangers, Elves and Maiar, and it has more to do with the lack of staff in some places. I mean, Mirkwood has to have a few more inhabitants than just Thranduil, Legolas and Galion (was that the name?), just for an example. Non-romance Glorfindel? Ha, there is one that springs to mind immediately: The two "Elf Interrupted" stories by Fiondil. Glorfindel's adventures in Aman, from the Halls of Mandos to his return to Middle-earth. That are the ones starring our dear balrog-slayer prominently. And in the process, you're probably going to end up a huge fan of the forbidding Lord of Mandos, too

I think I'm going to like it there very much OCs I can handle, as long as they're well-written, but if I find one more 'So-and-so finds herself in Middle-Earth and immediately joins the Fellowship' I might break something. I'll definitely be taking a look at those Glorfindel ones; when I tried searching ff it just came up with loads where he was paired with Elrond/Legolas/Erestor. Why is it so difficult to find good friendship fics? If I do end up writing for LoTR, and I probably will at some point, it'll probably be Elrond/Glorfindel friendship. There doesn't seem to be enough.

SoA is the best! Can't say much about the newer authors, but the 'oldtimers' there are mostly excellent writers, I have never stopped reading because a story was bad, only a few times because I wasn't so interested in the plot itself. The OC's there are the sort that I have added to my 'head-canon' to such an extent that I actually think 'but where is X' when reading the original or the fic of another author, before I remember that the person is an invention of another author. With some I really have to consciously remind myself that they aren't canon. Argh, yes - these girls who can ride better than the twins, are better swordfighters than Aragorn and better archers than Legolas and win the war all by themselves by saving the Fellowship at every turn. Can't read that, either. On SoA you will find only *one* story even remotely like that, and it's so absolutely no Mary Sue that the owner actually asked the author to post it there. It's a modern day girl somehow ending in Middle-earth, yes, but it explores how someone would react when they found themselves suddenly in the middle of nowhere and picked up by someone obviously one of these nutters who dress up as Rangers and play-act. She doesn't understand a word of what Halbarad, who found her, says and vice versa. And imagine you'd transported to a world without microwave, without ready-bought meat, without washing machines ... And when he takes her to Imladris and she realises it's real, she has to live with the problem not to know if she can ever return to her own time, and if she should reveal anything to save Boromir and Halbarad, or if she by telling them could cause Sauron to win ... It seemed very realistic, and of course, the main character didn't join the fellowship, but stayed with Elrond and the others and was sick with worry. Very unusual look at this overused basic idea. It's the first and only time I did get through more than a chapter or two of these 'modern day girl drops into ME' stories. Anyway, right now I can't remember any Elrond/Glorfindel friendship fic with them as the main characters (save maybe oneshots), but there are enough stories who feature them to some degree or another. Might go back and look over some authors to see if I can remember anything in that direction. But even if not, there are some excellent authors. If you ever need recommendations, just ask There's a reason why I abandoned FFN in early 2004 or so already for SoA.

That 'Elf Interrupted' story has to be the best LoTR story I've ever read! I spent four hours yesterday reading it, and only got to chapter 88, but it's amazing. You're right, Namo has definitely become my favourite character, but everyone is written superbly. Thank you so much for recommending it Hmm, that story sounds much more interesting than the others, I'll have to take a look. I don't understand how there can be so many awful ones. Although I do remember reading a Mary Sue parody that had Varda and Morgoth playing a game, with Morgoth using Mary Sues as weapons, and Varda using Reality to destroy them. There was a nice side plot featuring the Feanorians too, it was absolutely hilarious. That's the closest I'll ever get to a Mary Sue fic. Haha, I love how my resolution to stay away from LoTR lasted less than two days. Oh well, I was a fan of Tolkien long before I met Rowling. Do you know any good ones featuring Elrond, Celeborn or Glorfindel as main characters? Thanks.

Told you SoA is the best, and Fiondil is one of my all-time favourites on that site. There's a reason why I keep complaining about the quality on FFN after years reading on SoA and want a SoA twin for HP.
Anyway, glad you like the story, it's one I've been reading at least three times through already, and some chapters even more frequently. After you finished EI, you might be interested in The Findárato Diaries, which is about Finrod's time in Lórien and after his release until he got his gwador back. And of course, A Long-Expected Wedding. They tie in closely. Glorfindel starrs prominently in the Elf Academy stories, too.
Parodies are really the only way to bear Mary Sues! Anyway, if you want to read the one: Don't Panic and it's sequel, Okay, NOW Panic! by Boz4PM
Amazing resilience, yes. That's the power of the One Ring ;D
The stories where these three fearture more or less prominently would be, from the top of my head: Tâd Edhel a Firion (Fiondil) Fiondil's Tapestry, chapter 36, Notion: Bibelot (Fiondil) dito, chapter 13, Courage: IMpressions (Fiondil) Mind to Mind (Shirebound)
Then there are some stories by Jay of Lasgalen where Elrond is included more than just in passing: Mid Winter Gifts Along Came A Spider A Journey of Discovery (and probably a few others, but that should tide you over for a while)
Oh, and if you need a good laugh, there are some more of Fiondil's Tapestry stories you might want to try: (A note of warning: Don't eat or drink while reading! I'm not taking any responsibility for your keyboard and screen!) Chapter 6: Magic: The Password Chapter 18: Fault: The Doctor Is In Chapter 25: Smoke: One Night at the Laughing Vala Chapter 30: Monster: Bed-Slayer (lots of Elrond, too) Chapter 33: Signal: Wires Crossed
Tales from Vairë's Loom (Fiondil) Chapter 5: Eönwë Among the Edain
Basically, if you want Elf stories, I can recommend basically everything written by Fiondil and Jay of Lasgalen. That should be enough to keep you busy reading for a while. Let me know what you like, maybe I can then find more!

This is amazing Kitty, I really appreciate it. I'm loving the way Fiondil writes the Valar; I've never really thought about them much, but I love their interactions with each other and the Eldar, especially Namo. He's brilliant. I'll definitely be reading all their others, and all the rest you found. Thank you so much for all of them ;D
I don't suppose there's any way of downloading them onto a kindle, is there? Flagfic won't work, and it would be great to be able to read them anywhere.

Same here. Never gave the Valar much thought, even more so as I have my problems with the Silmarillion. Way too much gloom and doom for my taste. But thanks to Fiondil, they have really grown on me (and a lot of others, too!), and most of all Námo. Though I keep saying that the moment Glorfindel set sail for Ennorath in the Second Age, Námo has to have thrown the party to beat all parties ;D
Hm, there was another oneshot I meant to add to the funny ones, but I still need to find it. *goes searching* Ah, there it is! Tapestry, chapter 39, Disorder: Chaos Theory
Oh, and another Elrond story: Tales from Vairë's Loom, Ch. 6, Tenn' Ambar-Metta
No, no downloading possible, save in the good old way: Copy and paste. That's how I did it, chapter by chapter as they were uploaded. But if you tell me what you want, we can compare, and what I have, you can get as a Word doc, if you want. Not sure if they are convertible for the Kindle?

Though I keep saying that the moment Glorfindel set sail for Ennorath in the Second Age, Námo has to have thrown the party to beat all parties ;D Haha, I can so see this happening. Glorfindel's awesome, but he isn't the most relaxing person to have around That would be great, thanks. Do you have the two Elf Interrupted ones? Actually, anything from Fiondil would be amazing. I think I know how to get them onto a Kindle from a word document.

And you have to realise, we got the last chapter of EI 1, then Fiondil left for a few weeks of travelling, and we were left hanging. Someone called it the 'evil cliffie to end all evil cliffies', and I couldn't bring myself to disagree You're welcome! Well, dear, you are obviously under the Power of the One Ring, as I told you before. It keeps forcing you to read and read and forget all about the work you are supposed to do. Believe me, I know, I've been a victim of that for years!

Ouch, having to wait after that ending would have been awful. I could barely click on the next story soon enough.
Haha, that's one power I'm not going to argue with. I took a break from Elf Interrupted yesterday to go through most of his oneshots and then found 'The Wars of the Valar,' which was great too. Well, they all are, but I really loved that one.

Can imagine For us it was a looong wait from Dec 8 to March 15 ... three veeeerrryyyy looooong months, I can tell you! 'The Wars of the Valar' was the one story I was going to recommend, too, seeing your newfound love for Námo, but I see you found it already. Fiondil had fun with that, seeing as we know pretty much nothing of what the Valar truly did during that time, so he could just use his imagination, without any annoying canon to consider. It's rather unique, isn't it? I know of no other story covering that time, which makes it even more special.
