Hey, I'm thinking of restarting my 'The Evans and Dursleys read' story that I had on here--A Dinner Party Gone Right. The thing is, I'm not sure it's safe for those of us who want to do something like that on FF dot net.
Is it?

There are new stories posted all the time, but on the other hand, deletions still happen. I can't really advise you one way or another, just saying that, if you do, I'd like to read it, and remember to save everything elsewhere, too, just in case. Reviews included, if you want them.

I liked your story too. FF.net still deletes some stories, mostly the ones which are popular with more review counts, favs or followers. The crappy one are left alone. Mine was deleted recently. So i started posting on AO3. If you are a member you could post it there or you will have to wait for months to become a member I beleive. You could also post in Livejournal. Where ever you post it, I hope you can message me the link.

It's like jeeva160889 said, if your story becomes popular, then it's more at risk. It is also luck. Some times, even the poorly written stories are deleted because someone from on of the forums stumbles across it. In saying that, the "reading the book" genre normally stays up several months after being reported, or longer because the admins don't crack down on them as quickly as say chat format or stories using real people.

I hope you do. It was a great story.

It would be great to read your stories again. And yes the admins are quick to take down the popular stories but what really makes me mad is that I stumbled onto an author that had a pornographic picture as an avatar (I mean real picture of naked man showing it all) and reported it over a week ago. Everything that the person had written in their profile was removed by admin but the picture is still there! And to top it off he's a member of one of the forums attacking stories for breaking the rules

I can sort of understand why they delete stories that contain almost pornographic descriptions, I don't understand why they don't delete profiles that have porno pictures as avatars. Though, the fact that they haven't either deleted the picture or the profile, doesn't mean they didn't send a warning to the author. That's one thing they should do, send a warning, and if the author doesn't respond, then they should delete it.

Well, the ones whose stories are deleted don't get a warning, as far as I know. This just confirms once again that certain people are more equal than others and get preferential treatment, while othes are basically bullied and that's obviously ok in the eyes of the Admins.

I know. My story was deleted and I only got an email after, stating that I had violated such and such of the TOS and hence the story is deleted.

Yes they should definitely give a warning first and give the author a chance to change or remove stories/avatars themselves but considering they removed his written profile while leaving the picture (backwards much) leads me to believe they aren't going to do anything else. I mean it doesn't exactly make sense.

They should, but they don't seem to be able to go about anything in a logical way. And to remove the written profile, but leave that Atavar makes you wonder if they understand enough English to get why you were complaining??
I really wish I could find the stories I am reading all at another website, I'd leave FFN in a heartbeat!

Me too... Some of the stories are starting to be uploaded on AO3. But since the waiting list for becoming a member is a long one, the stories from FFN being posted there too is going to be very slow. There are a few authors who might not even move to any other site.

That's what I find so starnge, that AO3 takes about forever to approve new members. Otherwere that's a matter of minutes. Sign up, save, wait for the confirmation email, klick on the link, log in, and start!
You are right, the problem is that most won't move. I believe most who are annoyed with FFN are these hit by the purge; the others who don't write M or RtB might not even know what is going on, so why should they move? The sad thing is that I still haven't found an archive that could really replace FFN, like I did years ago for LotR.

I haven't found a good replacement site for FFN either Kitty Thankfully most of my favorite WIP's that are updated regularly are being uploaded on other sites but that still leaves dozens of other stories I'm following left on ffn, and while checking on those stories I always find a couple new stories I'm interested in and the vicious cycle starts all over again keeping me tied to ffn even though I'd like nothing more than to drop the site.

Exactly! With LotR I was lucky and followed some of my favourite authors to another website (the one I got Isilarma hooked on), and after reading more there, I ditched FFN altogether. There were a few stories I followed, but as most were abandoned anyway, it wasn't hard to give up on them. Haven't read LotR on FFN for ages. I just wish I could find the same replacement for HP *sigh*

Sadly, RandomReader90 just got deleted. With her wonderful series, one of the last really good RtB stories on FFN is gone, and her profile doesn't sound as if she is planning on reposting anywhere else. They are really only leaving us with the crap at that rate. Why do I even bother to go there any more? *sigh*

I went to her profile and it sounds like she deleted them herself, I don't know why she'd do that. There's one 'old-timer' still on the site that updated once after the summer purge that I'm hopeful will update again, and two other new stories that look promising but only have one chapter each so far that I am keeping an eye on, but your right Kitty we've basically been left with the crap since it seems like even the few good stories that survived the purge have been abandoned.

Yes, but obviously she was worried it would be deleted otherwise. There are some promising new stories, yes, but there are so few who don't abandon the project (and the same can be said for too many non-RtB stories). The ones who had more than one book finished are mostly gone.
You know, I could accept it if they'd actually delete all RtB stories, but the way only the good ones who are popular and with many reviews get kicked off, while the rest with a few exceptions seems to stay is what annoys me. Never can quite shake the feeling off that there's not just the question of legality behind it, but a lot of envy as well.
