Hey guys,
Yes, I am alive! School is hell and all that, but I'm still lurking.
Anyway, onto the point. I wanted to make the general membership aware that sometime between April 29 and May 29, Proboards will be upgraded to Proboards v5. Most things should transfer over and hopefully we'll barely notice any changes. That would be too easy, though - I expect that there will be some problem that will pop up. There is an option to opt out of it until the end of the year, but I think we might as well get it over with, and, well, anyway, I don't have access to that option. More on that below.
Unfortunately, I don't have full admin - Point Given retains the root admin account. Not that there's much of a choice - Proboards only lets there be one root admin, after all. As such, there are a lot of things which only Point Given can do, mostly relating to the behind-the-scenes stuff on the forum. I'm going to try to contact him and either get him to start paying attention to these forums again or convince him to hand the root admin account over to me. Failing that, then, well, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
Anyway, I just wanted to give you all an update. I know this forum's a lot less active than it used to be, but let's keep it chugging along, shall we?

Thanks for warning everyone while I was away! Yeah, it might be a good idea to get that account from PG, as it doesn't look like he's really coming on here anymore. I know someone mailed him about his story and never got a reply, either. Will look at the link Proboards supplied later, just having a quick look over everything after my return right now.

Yea, it's been a day and I've no reply yet. I have to have his cooperation in order to gain access to the root - there's no way around it. :annoyed:

Of course, now he replies. Apparently he's been in Angola these past months. He's agreed though, so hopefully the ball will be rolling soon. Proboards doesn't make this stuff easy...

Oh, he was in Angola? That explains why he was never here, I guess. But I'm glad to hear he answered, and positively. Now I just hope the changes aren't giving you premature grey hairs  (As it sounds like you will have to do most of it) |

It's my major at school if that's what you mean. And yea, it's tough. At my school (Texas A&M) I believe it has the lowest pass-rate in the college of engineering (34%) - luckily, I think I'll be among those 34% if barely. It doesn't leave much time for other stuff, though. >_>

Cool, yes, but sounds rather difficult. I'm impressed that Willy can handle that, and obviously rather successful.

That's awesome! I've always considered going to college for Aerospace engineering. That or Electrical Engineering or Physics.

Annnnd no response yet. I'm in the midst of finals at the moment, so I have no time to really care. If he still hasn't replied by the time I'm done with them (in a week, say), I'll send him another and if that doesn't work, well, then it's time to just hope for the best...

On the bright side, I took a look at some other v5 forums today, and I must say that I think I like the new format. It's really different, but that's not a bad thing, I think.

Well, no response yet. Anyway, schools over, I passed all my classes, and now I'm going to be starting a job tomorrow, so I'm gonna step back from this for the moment. As always, if you PM me I'll typically see it almost right away even if I can't reply until later. Congratulations to passing everything And good luck with the job! Pity there was no response. I just hope we don't end up with technical problems due to the changes by Proboards when we can't do the necessary stuff for our forum. So let's hope for the best. |

For reference, I finally remembered to look and realized that the upgrade had gone through, so I'm currently playing around in the Admin CP and looking at plugins and all that. So yea, if the forum crashes and burns, you know why.  Alternatively, if weird stuff starts changing, same deal. I'll make another post for feedback... |
