Maybe the servers were just a bit overloaded with too many people accessing the site at the same time? There's certainly no notice on the homepage about maintenance. Right now, it works fine for me, but it's night in the US.

Yea, this type of stuff happens occasionally. Either they were doing an upgrade and didn't bother telling anyone, or their hosting service screwed up, or something along those lines. Either way, it's gone within 24 hours 9 times out of 10.

When I have problems with FFN (or actually most other websites as well), then in most cases it helps to just wait a minute or two and then try again. In most cases that's enough, though sometimes it turns up again when the problem is servers being too busy or something along that line.
The strange thing is that often enough Flagfic bothers to explain to their users that FFN is having problems and that's why the download just now doesn't work or is extrememy slow - but FFN themselves doesn't bother to explain their problems to anyone.

Is anyone else getting error messages on FFnet when trying to refresh a page, or is it just me?

Haven't tried right now as I am busy elsewhere, but earlier today FFN was indeed acting up for me. When I went to read the new chapter 10 of Isilarma's fic, that showed up on my favourites list as updated, the chapter didn't show up in the chapter list, which only went to 9. So I tried my usual trick, to replace the chapter number in the URL, which usually helps to get freshly uploaded chapters to show up. But FFN still insisted that the chapter didn't exist, despite there being reviews for it already. Some time later, the chapter was available and I could read it. Then I refreshed the page to see if there had been any more updates in the meantime (reading took quite a while as I had to sneak in at work to read bits and pieces of it) and - the chapter was gone again. Instead of showing up with 10 chapters at the top, it was back to 9 chapters and further down, where it was since the last update. Hours later when I looked in again, it was back up at the top with 10 chapters ...
So I'd day you are not the only one.

I've not had that problem, but I occasionally, every five pages or so, get a message saying: 'Error type 1 and then a string of numbers and letters', but then I press refresh, I get the proper page. It is really really weird.

It is, but then, that's FFN for you. That site seems to act up one way or another every few weeks, and we never get an explanation.

Does anyone else have this problem on ffnet?
When I type to fast using the PM, search bar, and review box my page refreshes itself and I lose some or all I've typed. It's been going on since they updated it.

No, never had that, despite some very long messages, and I'm typing fast. Looks like FFN is thinking up something new for each user to annoy with.

I think FFnet has got a problem again. I can't get to any pages now, and whenever I try to go to the next chapter on any story, I get an 'Error Type 2' message. Is anyone else having the same problem, or is it just me?

*goes testing* No, works fine for me. But the site has some strange ideas anyway. For about two weeks, until about a week ago, every time I looked at a chapter and then hit the back button, nothing happened. I always had to hit it twice to get one step back - which was only with FFN, but never with other archives. Luckily it is now working normally again. I hope it works now again at your end, too.

You can no longer copy and paste ffn stories to a word document I had no problem doing this until yesterday so its something new ffn has done. I don't think you can download them to mediafire either, does anyone have any other ideas on how to save stories from ffn?

Try flagfic.com, I just tested it, and it still works. I've been using it for a year or so now and am rather content with it. Besides, it's much faster than copy & paste, you get the whole story in a minute or so. When I save works in progress, I just re-save after each chapter and replace the old one with the new one.
